Yeah that seems easy enough. You should be able to do all those mods with a Smoothie.

It's 100% Phase 45. I have not tried cap mods with a Phase45 but there is no reason you cannot do this. What is the mod---replacing the two 10n caps with a 220n and 470pF? Or similar?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Q-vibe Problem !

Q1 Source appears to be a problem. Check for grounds there, and audio probe these two points:

Q1 gate to verify you have input signal
Q2 base and collector to verify you have output from Q1 and Q2.

Yes, sorry, it's Cave Dweller 1, not the double delay one. I will do that one at a later time.

Bucksears - the Nautilus is on my list for the next batch (which will mostly consist of 3-5 big projects rather than a bunch of small ones).

Pre-Ordering is now available for:

Afterlife, BaconBits, CaveDweller, Hipster, Runt, Smoothie, FatPants, Boneyard, Mudbunny, Slow Loris, Collosalus, Road Rage, Snarkdoodle, CherryBomb.

New layouts: Mudbunny, Snarkdoodle (pcb-mounted pots for both)
New layout, new circuit: FatPants (see http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=3990.0)

Also, the Current Lover and Rangemaster will soon go out of stock. More of these will be ordered at the same time. They will go into "Pre-Order" status when the stock depletes (assuming that happens before the next batch arrives).

Also, please note this from the Projects Page:

Pre-Orders will ship the first week of April. Due to the new USPS shipping rates, I will no longer be able to ship in-stock items separately if they are part of a Pre-Order. Please place a separate order for in-stock items to have them shipped immediately.

------------

I WILL have the BOM and at least schematics for all the new stuff in the next couple of days so everyone can plan their parts order accordingly. The full documentation will probably run up right to the last minute, though.

It should be 9v on pin8, 0v on pin4, 4.5v on pins 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and probably a little less than that on pin3.

BTW--are you Joe?

Open Discussion / Re: FWIW - An Observation

Thanks for the observation, F5F. I am glad that the tenor here has been very positive...almost to a fault. That's a testament to the good nature of the people who come here everyday and share. Personally, I have a long history of running with the 'other' crowd that sometimes can get a little....arrogant. My take on forums is that I try to use the same manners I would employ if speaking to someone in person. I'm not always 100% successful (who is, after all), but I think most people here are like that too.

Volume all the way up = kills sound -- I'd say 9v and ground are somehow not consistent in your wiring, but that's all I got so far. Unless the pot is wired backwards  ???

Hey guys- I'm finalizing the latest batch now. There will be something for everyone, but not as much as I hoped. By that, I mean the number of new projects and re-orders needed now far exceeds my ability to fund them in one fell swoop (probably around 20 total). I know people are anxious so I'm doing my best to push as much out there as possible.

Couple things to keep in mind- 1) Each batch of projects I release is generally a couple thousand dollars of investment  (sometimes more). Obviously, that's the 'cost of business' but sometimes it's hard to do that kind of thing on a monthly schedule. I think in the next few months I actually will be able to maintain a 4-6 week schedule, though 2) Even though not everything I want to get out now will get out (right now), I think there's a strong possibility of a second release much sooner to take care of the leftovers. IOW, not as long of a wait as it has been from the last batch. 3) Not to brag (well, too much) but also keep in mind that no one else out there manages to compete, or even come close, to the number of releases that MBP does......   :) Maybe that's a gloat...nevermind!

Please stay tuned for an announcement here in a day or so. Thanks to all for their contribution in this thread. I will keep providing the opportunity in the future, of course.

General Questions / Re: Mangler Project
March 15, 2012, 03:56:27 PM
That's how the vast majority of Fuzz Faces behave, I'm afraid, so you have not done anything wrong. One thing you can do is to use a reverse audio taper for the 1k Fuzz control. This will spread out that last 10% of fuzz into a wider range.

Alternatively, you can leave the fuzz pot at max, and then use a 50kB pot wired as a variable resistor at the input of the circuit. This actually gives you more control over the overall fuzz amount than the traditional fuzz control by limiting the amount of signal going into the circuit itself.

Welcome to the forum!

Easy enough. Use a 100kA pot. Solder one wire to each lug of the pot. Lug3 gets wired to the OUT on the circuit board, Lug1 should be wired to ground (wherever is convenient, either on the PCB, or on one of the jacks or switch) and lug2 is the new output---that gets wired to the 3PDT switch where the original OUT would have gone.

That's all there is to it.

where do you get the ribbon wire for the pots? Seems like it would be nice to use for projects like this.

Don't remember. But, it was either Mammoth, PPP, SB or Tayda.

I think your switch is bad, based on the continuity issue. If you've remelted the joints and they look good, it's the only thing left.

The only way to test definitely is to remove all the wires from the switch and use your cont. checker again to see if you have these connections.

The nameplate is the normal PCB material etching I usually do. For the enclosure, all I did was use some hobby paint to create a mask then immersed it in etchant.

I used a dry sponge, dabbed that in paint (color doesn't matter) then dabbed the paint on the box to create a porous mask. Let that dry. Then I used old etchant spread over the entire outer surface of the enclosure. The non-masked parts etch away first. The paint will lift eventually since the coating but that is okay. The overall effect is a natural pattern, but uneven. The color you see is simply the result---it's the natural color of the etched die-cast box.

The thing I love about it as that it's kinda like paint and it has texture, plus it will never come off.

Fair warning--it's messy to do and dangerous. You need to have proper ventilation, wear a mask and gloves. Have a bucket of water handy to douse the enclosure to stop the etching process.

The echo pot sends a single, minimally filtered repeat to the output. If you are not getting a single repeat when it is fully up, you might have a wiring problem.
