Also, the CODA bypass has a switch for momentary or latch bypass. That would be perfect here. Just need to adapt the relay to bypass a stereo output which is easy enough.

General Questions / Re: VFE Builds - PCB Eyelet size
January 12, 2024, 04:13:03 PM
They definitely are small and it is easy to blob them up. But, I use my regular tip and solder for it and get good results. The way I do it is:

Heat the pad and lead together for about 2 sec
VERY quickly dab the solder to the iron. Get just a tiny fill to start. Repeat one more time.
Perfect joint! Well, most of the time, lol.

Also - don't use Acetone. Use Isopropyl 99% solution if you are doing pre or post cleaning of the PCB.

Pure analog it is. I honestly believe that it would be a killer simple & original DIY project.

Actually, analog audio but StomoLFO controller would be ideal. That is literally the least parts implementation and maybe lower potential for any LFO noise.

I still like the freeze idea, so it might be something worth looking into at some point.

The rotary switch is a neat idea. Another cool idea would be to combine this with  something like the EHX Freeze. So you could sample the incoming audio and killswitch it at the same time.

As my Disney addicted daughter would say, i can feel the start of something new. The freeze idea is awesome.
But then, and i don't mean to be rude, cooler would be stereo output to ping pong the xcuse my french out of the freeze, which is something my daughter will hopefully never say.

Porting the design to FV-1 could give you all three - freeze, kill, stereo output. And, not many parts required. But, I also know exactly how to do it without the freeze, too. That could be stereo outs and be pure analog.

The pot is actually a rotary switches with 100ms incremental step.
Well, i don't care really.
Could be standalone or as an addition to the taptempo projects or standalone with tap tempo, blue pcb or yellow or green.

Very easy to do. A simple square wave optical tremolo. Momentary switch connects the led to ground on press. I suspect the one demoed here might be hard bypass instead which is why sometimes it's a little "clickey". But, that's just a guess. It could just be the recording.

I'd think somebody with over 11k posts wouldn't even blink building this pedal  ;D

The fact that jimi has more posts than me shows just how hardcore he is!

General Questions / Re: AION Blueshift Headroom

I haven't built the Blueshift but my guess is the clipping you are experiencing may be from the compander. First I would pull both NE570s and test again. This eliminates the chorus output so it will tell you whether or not the clipping is in the clean through audio path or the delay (modulated) path.

If there's no clipping then it's happening in the delay path. There are a couple options you can try here.
One is to reduce C10 and C47 from .47uF to 220n. This will shorten the response time of the compressor portion of the circuit. It might help a little.

The other option is to leave those caps at .47uF and add a series resistor between C9 and pin6 of IC2. This resistor will add some signal attenuation to the compander input. Values to try are 47k through 100k to get the right amount of clipping reduction. This is kind of an awkward mod to do though.

Again, these are educated guesses. Only do them if you are comfortable desoldering and replacing parts. Otherwise you could screw up the expensive build!

Hey Brian,
Any word on if/when there'll be Eggsploder and Trash Compactor restocks?

Both of those are moving into the Standard Series. I don't have a release date yet but the SS will start showing up in Feb. The new Trash Compactor layout also eliminates all the 1/8W resistors for 1/4W.

Sale will end tomorrow, Jan 5th.

Yes, that's correct. Tails on means signal is passing through the FV-1 and to the output. Tails off is when signal passes from the output of the FV-1 but the signal is removed from its input.

IOW, when you are using something like a delay, you turn tails off to have the delay repeats die off naturally rather than abruptly. The effect itself is still active, but it is no longer sending signal to the FV1 input for signal processing. Other patches on the Headtrip won't really have a use for tails - it's mainly for delay or reverb.

Thanks Brian,
Was waiting for it. Subjective question: on the remaining board in stock, what is your "hidden gem" if any?

Of the stuff that's still available I'd say my favorites are:
Edgelord, Glitchee and/or Burly Bear

Simply b/c they are each really unique sounding and super fun to play with.

More Anamorphs in the store. Clearance sale is still going a few more days, at least.

Glad you had a good year! I am excited to hear about you meeting Vai if it happens. He was totally my inspiration back in the 90's.
We share the POG in common on our pedalboards. I truly love that thing :)

I also accomplished several things I wanted to this year, with a number of things being pushed to 2024. The thing I am most thankful for is my kid got into the college of her choice, we got a decent financial aid package, and just today she committed to enrollment!
