Thanks for the tip but it won't help me.  Evidently I am the last remaining human without a facebook acct. :D

No, I am _the_ other human without a facebook account!

I just got a bunch of 3pdt's from them, they had them for $6.99 with free shipping for 2 on eBay thaishine is their ebay name.  Same as everyone else's blue 3pdt's.  If they would carry the Cliff brand ones, that would be nice.

That is cool.  I always love dealing with Ken Watts, he is a good guy and has fair prices, those fabbed chassis look like they'd be nice to use.

Did you go for the full 18 watt kit from Watts Tube Audio or just the chassis?  IIRC Ken's kit is a lite IIb but with a PPIMV and a fat switch for a bigger cathode bypass cap on V1 right?  Very nice tone!

Ive got the gator as well. Yeah its noisy and will amplify hum and hiss throughout your whole board if you have one dodgey pedal, but it works for simply powering pedals, and i like the 8x 9v outputs and 3x 18v ones. Its such an investment to get a PP or better isolated power supply. I also just use a Boss adaptor and daisy chain pedals, always works fine.
I just came across this though, thought it looks pretty great.. http://www.guitareffectspedals.com/cioks.html
That is too bad dude, I don't find mine to be noisy at all.  Maybe there is alot of variance in the quality of the Gator PSU's?

I use the Gator G-BUS-8 that came bundled with my Gator GPT-BL-PWR pedalboard.  It has eight 9v jacks, and three 18v.  I routinely run all 8 9v's at the same time and haven't had any current issues, the thing is rated for 1800mA, max is 250mA per jack which would be seven pedals pulling max current, very unlikely you'd see a setup that would draw that much.   Simply great and is about half the price of the dunlop or voodoo labs stuff.  I got mine on sale on ebay for $89.99 plus shipping, a great deal for a soft case, pedal board, and PSU.  Sweetwater has em in stock:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GPTBLPWR/

The psu has adapter itself so the main transformer is not housed inside the brick but in the middle of the power cord and it drops the power to 18v.  If anything it seems like that would make for an even quieter psu, not having the transformer next to the filtering and distribution of power.  It cannot power any -9v pedals though, so you gotta go with a roadrage or a battery if you are running PNP trannies.

I think the way you see it is spot on Jacob.  Similar to something I had read about the misnomer of Jim Marshall's first amps were based off of the Bassman.  In actuality both were based on the phase inverter and push/pull output circuit from the western electric manual that related to the tubes themselves...

Yunno, after looking around a bit it seems that amp is pretty intreresting.  Most of the one channel Elks with that set of controls have 2 x 6BQ5/EL84 output section, I haven't seen a 2 x EL34 that isn't a two channel amp.  It is like a custom amp 30, but with the custom amp 50 output section.

...but if the bass is basically non-existent, it's time for a cap job. Not knowing the provenance of the amp, it's just a good idea anyway.

+1

It would be a good idea to get it back in working order and then make decisions about modding it.  Those are actually pretty nice sounding amps and well constructed vs. many Japanese tube amps of the era.  I would expect it to sound much fuller after a cap job.  It is a bit of luck that it has 50uF/50uF cap cans, you can get JJ's from turretboards.com for around $12 IIRC.  Just do the electrolytics and see what you think.  It is actually much more tidy inside than the Valco/Supro amps I love.  If you get it operating properly and it is still too bright for your tastes, it might be perfect for someone that plays a Les Paul or a country player.  It would make a good ebay candidate or I am sure many others here would be interested in it, myself included.

Good job on that project, dad!  He is cute!

I have two of my own, Hank (2 years) and Harrison (7 mo. on the 11th)

I'll guess the number is 14

Sounds like a great setup Timbo. However, we're not so much talking about our setups but rather which of the pedals we use that we could not do without. If you were to narrow it down to a few pedals on your board that you could say will always be there and never be removed, which would they be?

Jacob

Wow, I see the point you are making, but it would be hard to get rid of any of it!  The bad stone could go because I use it the least, next would be the wah, and then the fuzz.  I really rely on everything else really heavily every week.  For a long time I played with just guitar, rangemaster, and an 18 watt Marshall clone.  That amp was signifigantly more dynamic in it's sensitivity to picking and guitar volume, I could get alot of good sounds out of a very simple set of tools, but I was playing alot more straightforward rock.  Now I am playing alot of contemporary Christian music and life without both delays and a high gain distortion like the uproar would be very tough.

So absolute essentials to pull of my regular Sunday morning set would be a rangemaster, uproar, aquaboy, echobase and TU2.

My board:
vintage crybaby with mods (actually sits off board right, is battery powered and big) > rangemaster clone > uproar > aquaboy with dual delay (finally calibrated & working well!) > bad stone clone > one knob fuzz > echobase > TU-2.  I also have a tremolo on/off switch in a 1590A for my '61 Supro 1616t in the top left corner of my board.  All of this on a Gator Pedal Tote with the G-BUS-8 brick.  My compact music machine!
