The only band that had staying power for me is Rush. The rest of that crap I cannot stand now.
I know the feeling.  Alot of those bands I used to love drive me crazy now.  Also, I hated country in high school too.  It was the 90's and country was pretty weak at the time, but the country stuff coming out nowadays can be pretty compelling and I like alot of it.  Funny how tastes change.  Still love that john Lee Hooker though.

I haven't gotten any word back from them at all yet.  They have till Sept. 4th to respond to Paypal before Paypal refunds my $ automatically.  I don't know what to say really.  Looking at their eBay feedback, the negatives from the past year are similar to what is going on with my order.

I'd order from Mammoth, Smallbear, or PPP to be safe.  I know some were having problems with Mammoth, but I have had 2 orders in the past month from them that were perfect and quickly shipped.  FYI if you are buying anything in quantities of 10 or more you should look at 4site electonis site before ordering from Mammoth, you can get pretty good deals in quantity.

Open Discussion / Re: Mammoth Forum?

I was poking around that forum.  Besides giving me a headache from the visual interface of the board, there is a whole crazy thread over there that chronicles a dispute between devi ever and billy corgan from the smashing pumpkins!  seems like a pretty big pond over at I <3 Fuzz.  Kinda scary.  I prefer the tight knit community of the Madbean forum, I had really liked the same feeling at FSB, albiet from time to time an industry heavy hitter would drop in and that was interesting.  When Suhr checked out the Riot thread it was an eye opener!  In the end he offered PCB production services from the Suhr shop with his CNC pcb machine to all FSB members.  Pretty cool IMO.  I have gained a lot of knowledge in the various forums, but opinions are just as plentiful as technical know how, so it is good not to take everything at face value.  Without the existence of forums I might not have gone back to school for a degree in Mathematics (only 2 years to go now!).

Just a follow up...

Since I started paying attention to what jacks I use in what build...I prefer the switchcraft jacks over the other ones I've tried.

You can really tell a difference in material/build quality and also how it "holds" onto the plug.  Just my 2cents.

Josh
Yep, that is why I use them too.  Very solid grip on the plug.

I play with the praise band at the Orchard Bible Fellowship in Kingsburg, CA every Sunday morning.  I don't think we are gonna get signed to a label, but Jesus likes us, so that makes up the difference!

airborne toxic event - my buddy Daren's fan-freaking-tastic band.

Great band!  They recently played in philly.

It is good to see a guy that I know is one of the best drummers alive making it in the biz.  Daren is not a physically large guy, but he is the loudest, and tightest drummer I have ever seen.  In the Airborne Toxic Event he plays with alot of control, but inside him is a super fast punk core.  His dad was always really supportive of him and the rest of us playing in bands in the small town we grew up in.  We used to jam in the rec room at Daren's house multiple times a week.  Now when you go through that same room it is the entrance to a pro recording studio his dad built on to the back of the house, so cool!

I opened a case through paypal and escalated it to a claim today.  I have very kindly and politely tried to reach John with 3 emails to all of his available email addresses and have made 2 phone calls to the listed landline over the past week, leaving a voicemail once, and have gotten no response.  I am really wondering if he has been injured or something along those lines.  I find it really hard to believe that he would be ignoring attempts to communicate because he has always been really up front in the past when there were problems with the cart/website.  I am only out $32 and change at this point, would have hated to have put in a big order and have this happen.  There was a real good guy named Terry Stinger that was making 18 watt lite Marshall clone PCB's that passed away in a motorcycle accident and 18watt.com community got wind of his demise because orders through his website were not being sent and after some investigation someone ran across a news article about him passing away.  I hope this is not the case, and hope John all the best.

FWIW I would advise anyone who is thinking of placing an order with EC to look to one of the other distributors in the meantime.

Yeah, something awful must be up.  I have tried calling the landline and left a message but got no response, I have emailed 2 times, no response there either.  It sucks.  I really love the bonded wire he sells and blue 3PDT's were on sale for $3/ea....   I don't want to have to open a case with paypal, but if I don't hear back in the next day or two I will.  So lame, I have bought from John lots of times...:/

General Questions / Re: Uproar Pedal Question...
August 23, 2011, 04:24:32 AM
Thanks!  FWIW I know 1N60's are commonly subbed for 1N34a's, but are supposed to be very similar.  If you really want to try alot of different dioeds out it would be good to socket them.  Too much swapping and the traces might go.  Godspeed and good luck!

General Questions / Re: Uproar Pedal Question...

I just built one too!  You can see it in the build reports section.  I had run out of 1n34a's and subbed 1n40's, but the clipping seemed pretty hard with those in there.  I am waiting on my IC's to show up so I have 4558P's in there right now too.  I have a ton of cute little blue 1n914's that I just found so I pulled all the 1n40's last night and went with all 1n914's, with the exception of the led's.  I am really happy with this setup, clipping switch makes a noticable difference, but both are much smoother and with the tone control backed way down I can even get a good dumbley gain/tone combo.  Really happy with mine.

Build Reports / Uproar!!!
August 20, 2011, 03:42:55 PM
Here is my go at an Uproar, built on a board from his royal dudeness.  I stuffed it in a NS1590B from mammoth, pretty tight fit!  I used 1N40 diodes in place of 1N34a's, and 2 yellow LED's in place of a single blue.  IC's are 4558's until the 4580's get here.  As others have stated, gain for days!  Love it!  Big punch in a small package, and really good for chords, very defined/not lame and flubby.  Now to find some smaller knobs.  Thanks to CJ, Madbean, and El Duderino.
