Here is my black label (MIJ, ACA) PH-2. I don't excel at tracing but I'm always happy to help with pics or whatever

Yeah, whole different ballgame there. Looked it up and it turns out those IR3109 chips are quad OTAs designed for filter sweeps and go for about $40 each if you can find them.

The Subdecay Quasar uses modern VCAs in a similar setup. It's a phaser I've seriously considered shelling out some money for.

That's a pretty interesting design. I've never seen a compander in a phaser.

It's to try to keep the JFETs from clipping.

If you look at the schematic for the PH1-R, there's a divider going into the phase stages that cuts the input amplitude in half. Then there's a boost at the mixing stage. It's an effort to reduce distortion when running JFETs at 9V.

Speaking of which, getting back to then PS1-A on steroids idea, I'd also say add a charge pump for split-supply operation and you'd need a proper sine wave LFO.

This is a new one to me, but I like what I see. It's pretty much a Phase 90 with a lot of improvements and more control.
You could even pimp it up further by adding fixed stages or a StompLFO chip.
Two more swept stages and you'd have a PS1-A on steroids.

Only had it for about 10 days, but it's working great. So far I prefer it over the glowforge I'd been using at the makerspace.
The small working area is the only bummer.

It's so obvious how well thought out this entire build is.  Fantastic job Jason.
Is the faceplate acrylic?  Did you use your Beamo to design it?
The skills necessary to pull this off is mind blowing.
Just amazing.
Thanks! The faceplate is reverse-etch acrylic material. I designed the graphics in Illustrator and used my Beamo to engrave and cut. That's a nice little machine.

Thanks, guys!

I'm Really excited about this one. It's one of those projects where you get a bit lucky with stuff and everything just comes together. The clean 'channel' is very beefy and punchy with some nice natural compression. The overdrive is a bit tricky to dial with with all the controls, but it sounds amazing. It's like taking Marshall lead tone and adding just the right amount of Tweed raunchiness. Hit it with a mid boost and you're in distortion nirvana.

Okay, I had been resisting saying this, but if you decide to do a run of birds then sign me up. Hell, I'd probably consider spending money for a built one (and, with the exception of the Trio, the last time I bought a pedal was probably 2013).
I'm not going to make PCBs available because it's a really complicated build with a lot of SMD. If you'd like me to build you one, shoot me a PM.

Out of the loop a bit. What's a dizzy tone? Schematic?

Build Reports / Dumble ODS preamp with submini tubes
February 28, 2021, 03:43:27 PM
Wife working from home started me on a silent rig quest that led me this and now I'm in headphone heaven.

It's a full Dumble ODS preamp with Russian 6n17b submini tubes in a 1590XX enclosure. I used grill cloth to cover the heat vent ports for the tubes.
Well-worn 555 SMPS with about 140V at the plates.

I added a high-voltage mosfet buffer on the output (Dumbleator style) and it even works really well as a boost/OD pedal into another tube amp. Mostly I run it into a delay > diy Surfy Bear reverb > Two Notes Cab M+.

At first I was impressed because it looked like it came off the showroom floor. Then I scrolled down and realized no manufacturer in the world would do this.

That's just a work of art, bud. Wow.

Had a Two Notes Captor X for about a week and I'm loving it. Just about never get the house to myself since the pandemic started, so been looking for a silent option.

Playing my whole setup through headphones doesn't have quite the same feel, but it sounds really pretty good and the X has a few features that make up for it. Twin tracker is a lot of fun and the reverbs sound great, if not a little over the top for my tastes.

Also, the software is really simple and intuitive. Still have some things to figure out, though, like assigning the presets to the rotary switch and how to download and use other people's presets.

Only criticism so far is the lack of an aux in like the Suhr product. Just ordered a cheap mixer to get that job done.
I'm so impressed, I'm contemplating getting the CAB M pedal and building some tube preamp pedals to skip the amp altogether for home playing.

OPA1642. Texas Instruments audio opamp. Rail to rail. Low noise. Phase reversal protection. Get some SMD adapter PCBs and A/B test against the 072 and your jaw will drop. $2

I think the only hope in the long term is that the kids that get really sick start flooding it out on social media.  I "get" that most kids get milder symptoms, but as Strategy mentioned, it isn't just the deathly ill stuff, it's the long term effects and/or damage.

Not to mention the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome that they still don't know much about, but seems to be linked to COVID. Fortunately it's still really rare even in New York so hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a big deal.

The thing that gets me is that it seems (anecdotally) that all the hardcore anti-vaxx moms are almost fully overlapped on the Venn diagram with the "you can't force me to wear a mask in public" people. They'll dedicate their stay-at-home free time to spreading awareness of an unproven incredibly remote chance that something that will definitely have a 1000% improvement on your long term health might also have a negative side effect so you can't force me to give it to my kids, BUT they'll also rail against being expected to do something that definitely slows the spread of COVID and has zero side effects. I think I see the common denominator and it has nothing to do with health.

COVID and George Floyd have both been among the most horrifying things to happen in the past 4 years, but one shared effect they've both had is to shine a bright light everywhere, including on some of the darkest corners of our culture, and people in those corners can't hide from it anymore. We are seeing everyone (both public figures and people in our own lives) for who they really are, and seeing that they don't really stand for the things they want you to think they stand for.

My hope is that we don't lose track of who's who once things settle back down in a year, because a lot of people are going to try to slink back into the shadows as soon as they can to avoid being taken to task for things they've done and said that were harmful.

Social media is destroying us. Zuckerberg is a legit, comic-book level supervillain. He thinks he's a god, like he's given humans fire and it's up to them what to do with it. What he's done is monetize extremism.

Wow, that look great!  Those guts are beautiful.

I missed the boat on this one and now I have the FOMO

I'm doing a revision with C16 actually on the PCB (DOH), so you still have another chance. Hard to say when, though.

very cool build. I really like the UI-curves on the front.
just for my understanding: are you talking about molecular junction diodes? never heard of carbon nano diodes before (wouldn't be suprised if there are some. carbon nanotubes seem to end up everywhere. not because it makes, but rather because it sounds scientific and because some of their properties are highly overstated and marketed, imho)

Nanolog has a lot of material explaining these things on their website. The distortion effect they show on a sine wave is exactly what I see on my scope. You really have to design around the thing to get the most out of it, though.
