Molecular Cell Biology - That could be a name for a Pedal - or an alternative rock band...

Here is my latest build (3 and counting), the name comes from a French mate of mine who overheard some woman talking about how she'd had an epiphany to which he turned round and asked (in his heavy french accent) "excuse me, did you just say you have an epic fanny?". I don't think she was too pleased... Anyway, he told me this about the same day as I'd just ordered this kit (it's a green russian btw) and the rest is history. For the American among you (I'm guessing that's most of you), "fanny" in the UK does NOT mean your butt.

Very nice build and story too. I found out about the American use of the word fanny when an American colleague was telling me about a fight he got into and said " the guy pushed be back and I fell straight on my fanny"  I spent the next 30 seconds wondering if he was some sort of mutant transsexual.

Very nice build. As the knobs are clear could you try spray painting the insides black, so you have a mix of black and clear?

First of all thank you for some photos that I can show my wife so she can see that she has got off quite likely even with the additional guitar I have just bought. I now expect comments like " where are you going to put all this" to stop, once she sees these.

I was very impressed by the Minimoog but what really stoked my admiration was all of those pots that you wired up. That must have been some soul destroying job.

I used to have one of these years ago and it was great but not suited to heavy use. Mine burnt out and the barrel snapped. Never did replace it but just seen them on Amazon for 11 quid. It did last a few years so 11 quid is not a big deal.

I agree about using tubes at higher voltages. They just don't seem to sing otherwise.

Sounds like a job for a wooden dowel and some random poking about inside.

You could try knocking up a reasonably thick cable about a foot long with crocodile clips at each end. methodically plug I each pedal separately to see if you can find the culprit that way. Then methodically add a pedal to the chain one by one and try to see if it only happens with one particular pedal or a certain combination. For any culprits use the lead with clips to connect the guitar /jumper lead earths to other nearby grounds such as other pedal bodies.

Is the mains plug of your power supply have a ground connection? That might cause an earth loop, but don't disconnect the earth if it does, that could be dangerous.

I presume that forum goers of FSB also have joined FCF (Free Capacitors Forum) and FRF (Free Resistors Forum), etc, etc. and make all their own components?

The way I see it is that someone somewhere is going to make money selling the required components. If someone wants to do the job of sourcing them all and putting them in a kit along with some instructions, other useful bits and provide some support why shouldn't they if people want to buy all that they need in one go from one place.

Thanks for posting the diagram. Interesting to to how we had similar ideas but based on different circuits (VI limiters compared to rubber diodes). In the end I found that my circuit worked partly as the transistors acting like a regular diode shunting some signal via base to emitter and partly some signal via Collector to emitter.

Did you find similar with yours?? Neat idea on the variable biasing of the opamp, I will have to try that one day.
