I believe the labelling for the alternate switching inputs and grounds on the bottom side of the board does not match the labels for the holes on the top side.

For example -- the top right side of the switching board has "ALT" next to the edge of the board.  If you look at that same hole on the bottom of the board it is labelled "J2"

The top left hole on the switching board is labelled "J1" but if you look at that hole on the other side it is labelled "ALT"

I'll check this again when I get home tonight and either clarify my comment or apologize for the confusion.

I have started using the alternate in/out jack points of the board to test everything before installing the board-mounted jacks, since that preserves access to the back side of the board to isolate and fix any issues.  I noticed this morning that the labels for the J1/ground holes and the J2/ground holes are inconsistent from the front side of the board to the back side of the board.  I think the ones on the front side are correct, so don't be confused if things look different when you are checking something on the back side of the board.

thanks for sharing that info.  I have built the Blueprint and may try this mod.

Found them on the internet at lovemyswitches.  I didn't even know those existed.   Nice touch for your mega pedal!

Those colored nuts on your footswitches look great.   Where did they come from?

Congratulations on this massive undertaking.  In addition to the technical challenges, the painting on the board, decals, and knob choices look fantastic!

I'll add my new-to-here thanks.  Spent a lot of time building lots of Craig Anderton effects and Jack Orman circuits about 20 years ago.  Took a long break to play more acoustic guitar and chase other hobbies.  Came back to this hobby after discovering that great online resources and pre-etched project boards.  The Madbean shop and forums has become my go-to spot these days.

It was only making the right clicking noise (like the other VFE pedals I have assembled) with every other press, and not actually switching the relay away from the input/output jacks.  I have the right part that I plan to swap into the board in the next day or so.

My problem with the switching board was with the relay, but only because I had ordered the non-latching version.  Note to self (and as a heads-up to others):  the "L" in the part number is very important.  It took looking at the different versions of the relay in the Panasonic datasheet for me to finally realize I was using a different part than called for.

Nice job with the layout and the decals.  It looks great!   Are you going to use the same style knobs for all of the effects for consistency?  Or will you use different knobs to better separate the effects to match your blocking in the design?

Thanks for the suggestion.  The solder connections for the input from jack to board, and in the wiring between the boards tested OK but I reheated them as well.  Did not change the problem.  The input from the board is also remaining grounded at all times, which seems consistent with the relay not switching the signal into the board.  I did check to see if the pic would change to the momentary operation and it does seem to work, but does not change what the relay is actually doing.  At the very least I plan to pull the jack so I can take a look at the relay connections to the board.

VFE Projects / switching board question
May 16, 2018, 08:31:08 AM
A quick question based on just a few minutes troubleshooting the switching board for the Blueprint pedal since I think the relay for the switching board might be defective.  The audio and switching boards are fully assembled and wired together, but have not been installed in the box.  The wiring connections and positive and negative voltages on both boards look OK, including the 5v power going to the pic.  The LED turns off and on when the momentary switch is pressed.  Plugging in a guitar and speaker, the bypassed signal is OK, but the relay does not switch to the in/out connections that go to/from the Blueprint board when the switch is pressed and the LED comes on.  Continuity exists between the in and out jacks even when the LED comes on when the switch is pressed.  When pressing the momentary switch, I can only hear the relay click with every other switch press, while it remains silent on the other (unlike the soft clicks I can hear for each press on other switching boards).     Is there is another plausible thing to check that would have this same symptom before I unsolder the jack and relay to put in a replacement?
