VFE Projects / Re: VFE Dragon

It could be a defective relay even though you used the right part.  You can use the DMM to see if it is getting  power to the relay when the led is in one state compared to the other (on/off).

the voltage readout for your TL062 is the opposite of what is set out in the other chart.    did you record the voltage correctly when you measured it?

Glad you got it working.

the switching board for the VFE pedals also filters the power supply and contains the charge pump for the pedals that use it (like the Tractor Beam).  So at the very least you are getting less filtering on the power supply and the voltages going to your board may be different.  Check the TB build document for the voltage readings you should be getting on your pcb and compare them to your readings.  That may help you isolate the issues you are having.  I

Wow --- over 150 Fritters sounds like a big success on that promotion!   And it sounds like you have been very busy filling the orders that go with those.   Thanks for all that you are doing here!

It sounds like a cold soldered connection to me too.  I would reflow the solder on the clock trimmer just in case the process of adjusting it is re-establishing a temporary connection.

The choral reef is a tight build already with little if any room for larger parts, workarounds, etc.   I think it was optimized to be a chorus pedal and then optimized to fit into a standard VFE build.  One of the nice things about VFE pedals is all of the adjustments you can make with the on-board pots and switches.  The down side of that is there is little room to try any other mods on the board other than same-sized drop-in part substitutions.

If you want a different kind of effect pedal with a longer modulated delay, I agree with the suggestion above to pick a design and build it from scratch.

"In future, though, I'd advise using IC sockets."

Unless space is an issue on a crowded board, I usually use sockets for ICs.  Easier to swap out if you want to try a functionally-equivalent-but-not-identical chip, or if you just want to swap in a sub when troubleshooting to see if the problem is in the IC.  Of course a pedal that takes a lot of abuse could have ICs that are in sockets work themselves loose over time, and that could be a problem if it failed during a performance.

And I think if you were making a pedal for someone else you might prefer soldering the ICs in place to provide that extra durability.

Hope you're feeling better, and please don't feel like this is hanging over your head in the meantime.

thanks!  checked some other schematics on the web and fuond multiple references to using the 2n3565, along with a couple of other NPN choices.

I think it probably is an error too.  I am socketing the transistors so I might give it a try anyway to see if it smokes (literally or figuratively ...).  Then I can sub in the 2n3906.

The parts list for the Pepper Spray lists Q2 as 2n3965       I used the links in the build doc to smallbear electronics to order parts that I needed, and I just realized the link was to a 2n3565 transistor (which I ordered, and have ready for the build).     I don't see the 2n3565 listed as an equivalent for the 2n3965, but is this a recommended sub for Q2?    I wanted to check since I do find an equivalent listing for the 2n3965 to be a 2n3906, which I have in my inventory.

Can you go ahead and post the new project documents for items that are going on sale soon?  Likely some things need to be ordered besides the new boards....

Works for me.  No need to add to the stress of maintaining cash flow and keeping your inventory stocked while also developing new products.
