I was able to salvage a botched etching and will be trying a single sided Sunking - Does anyone know the pot values that I need off hand - I'm not home and don't have the version 2 doc in front of me...

Thanks!

jake, thanks so much. yeah, i still own about half of them. every once in a while someone comes by our store and falls in love with one of 'em and takes one home. with players, we love to do side by side comparos, the differences become apparent very quickly.

i have about 6 boomerangs, most are in line for restore/repair.

parapedal.

wilson has the freak wah, which is based on the parapedal. sounds very close to the originals as far as i can tell. in burgerman's demo vid (    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uneGh0c5j1s&feature=g-all-u&context=G2f93b59FAAAAAAAAAAA       ), i could see he was using a pot that looks identical to the  mr.supercrybaby dunlop pot. i wonder if he is getting his pots through someone selling dunlop repair parts? i think those are 100k dualgangs. wilson has been known to sub in higher value pots for lower in the past ( wilson rippah Q based on boomerang but using an icar taper  180k propot in place of the 25K). owned a rippah Q, it sounded great ( after i replaced the scratchy pot) but the build quality and parts were so- so. almost all chinese parts, incl enclosure. i think all chinese pots are crap, they get scratchy in no time (dunlop mccoy reissue,  roc pot, propot, etc etc).  hotpotz2 are the only pots that really hold up. george blekas of pedalworks agrees.

BTW, all of the late model dunlops with cheap chinese pots are scratchy. they messed up when they got away from the hotpotz2.

thanks for checking out my vids! believe it or not, i have bought and sold a bunch of wahs that i didn't even make videos of! i only make vids of the ones that i think are historic, modded by me, or unique.

my two holy grail wahs are:

-67 maestro boomerang BG1, no one knows how many exist but i think it is way less than 100.
http://www.diyguitarist.com/DIYStompboxes/Boomerang3.htm

- teese rmc3 , made in 96, second or third year, but in the vox case, supposedly the last one made in a non-teese encolsure. sounds better and quite different from rmc3s of just 6 years later.

It's not an mk1 but at this price it can't possibly be that bad...($189)

It came to me earlier when I started to gut my Vox wah...those "stoppers" look like the rubber plungers that used to come in old school syringes...I'd grab one of those, cut the conical end and voila! just sayin'

Whipple and the pot, among other things are on the way...gonna read around a little before I decide which Caps to acquire...

more to come

Hi,
I'm having a moment of "Unclarity"...

can I use a SPDT in place of a SPST? and how do I wire it?? (two wires, one jump?)

I'm confused, all of a sudden simple things are way out of control..

Thanks

Thanks Misha,
I figured it out....In mistakenly changing things at the very last minute, I was able to unleash not 1 but 4 different shorts which disabled the whole thing except the bypassed signal. I was able to trace it up and fix the shorts...everything's is ok now. Ah, and the op amp is also ok.

Thanks for the help!

Would a short in the Green Bean circuit necessarily fry the op amp? I don't want to risk frying another one if it is the case.

Thanks.

P.S. Sorry for being almost too vague!

Well I finally stumped up the guts to resign my old job...  I've been accepted for an electronics course in 2012!  Woo!  ;D

(Erm... hope the kids don't mind saveloys and rice for the next year or three) :P

Check this link out - you may have heard about it, but MIT (yes, Massachussett's Institute of Technology) has a large number of their courses listed for free free with all materials but no certification (soon they will offer this as well)    load of really intense and useful info - much of it is very fresh and new concepts

good luck!!!

Man, how did I miss this fun thread.  My name is Dave and I live in Victoria, on an island off the west coast of British Comumbia, Canada.  I dont have any cool nicknames.  I was once called Charlie for 2 years cause when I started a job (cook at the time) there were 3 other Daves there.  My first day of work one of the more senior guys says "Who are you?".  I say "Dave" (say in your head in a meek 19 year olds voice).  He says "That dosn't work, your Charlie now". And that was that.

Ha!  ( I know there's a ton of islands out in BC) Do you happen to know Richard Sales?? He lives out there - Super knowledgeable in electronics and a pioneer Audio Engineer!

Open Discussion / Re: ca3080 source?

Ha, good to know...Reason I ask is that I work as an assistant to a mixer who has a lot of electronics experience and he mentioned a tremolo he had built for someone in the 70's which used a few CA3080's. He's vowed to recreate this schematic at my insistent urging, Only because I listened to a recording which featured this effect on a guitar track. Amazingly transparent and clear!!!

I'll keep y'all posted
