I'm getting anxiety already thinking about all of those components.

But I need to be pushed.

1. Rabbit Hole = 0
2. Uber Tuber = 0
3. L5 = 3

Allright, keep 'em coming.

Thx peterc,

Now:
1. Rabbit Hole = 0
2. Uber Tuber = 0
3. L5 =2

Will it be a landslide? Will it even up later on?

Open Discussion / Vote for my next project!

OK, here are the ground rules. I haven't gone over the BOM for the Beast build. I know I've got a lot of it but I may have to trade someone for a few parts. I was going to give an entire week for a vote but I've got to get packing pretty soon so why don't we give this till Wednesday at 8 PM Pacific time.

1. Our own, "Rabbit Hole". For some reason I just haven't gotten around to building in 1590A or I've been avoiding it subconsciously. Ok, i've Gone over the BOM and all I'm missing are the pots. If it wins  then I will need to beg, borrow, steal ,buy or trade for these.

2. Once again, our own "Uber tuber". Just don't know much about it although, it seems it involves a number of things I've never done. I've gone over the BOM for this one and i'm Missing: 100 pf Silver Mica, 220uf Electro and then I would also need all of the pots.

3. The Beast Build. Aion Electronics L5 preamp. I'm still Looking over the BOM.

Feel free to include your reasoning.

Get out the vote!
-Mike

I tried that and it would take a whole day to populate a moderately complex board. Keep in mind I'm slow to begin with.

Then I tried populating everything of a similar height and just used painters tape to secure everything and just rotated the PCB in the in the vise and soldered them. While fast it does not look very pretty the way I did it.

That's when I switched to the tape and blu-tack combo. It takes a little longer than just flipping it in the vise, because you take a little time to press the tack into the nooks and crannies. However, you don't get blu-tack on anything as once you flip it over and place it on the work surface, then you can really press down and get everything right snug to the PCB. You can also adjust all of the dead cockroach legs to make sure they are straight up and down before you solder.

As I solder I bend the leads towards me of the ones I've already soldered. This allows access to the next row and you can pretty much work your was across the entire board.

Everybody is different, but I actually get better results in a shorter amount of time.

I just bend them over and cut them short after they are soldered. Is that a bad/rookie way to do it?

That's actually the more mechanically reliable way to do it.  You can always get a job soldering parts for NASA if you get tired of building pedals.  ;-)

The only downside is that the parts are a bit harder to remove if you need to rework them.

All I can see in my minds eye is that pic. You know the one I'm talking about.

This may only be germaine to me, but I've got a tremor and it's not uncommon for me to get a little happy w/the solder and fill up an adjacent hole.

I've got a super sucker and copper ribbon. Honestly, what works best is to ream it out with a PCB drill.

Allrght, I can see you cringing.

I take some precautions. Obviously the OD of the drill needs to be less than that of the hole. You need to be somewhat centered and it helps if the filled up hole you're working with is a little concave.

I just get myself into trouble often and have had to learn to get myself out of it.

Nothing wrong with that all, I still use that method at times. It's more about what works for you.

O.K., not as serious as some of the recent topics, but I got to get off my chest. Why are people in eBay so freaking cheap.

I have so many stories. I $90 item that someone wants to pay $20 for and want you to pay the shipping on top of that. Come on really?

A four dollar item that someone wants to bargain you down to one dollar for! That one the guy actually called me an elitist jerk for not selling it to him.

And it doesn't work the other way around. I have had people Send me offers and it specifically says on eBay didn't offer does not include shipping. I had one guy who threatened up and down to give me horrible reviews if I didn't give him free shipping because I never mention that in my reply offer to him.

I worked very hard to get 100 positive feedback.

One guy is going to ruin that.

Anyway rant over.

Let's talk about the importance stuff like land mines and endangered species like reporters.

I feel your pain! I really don't use Fleabay anymore. Too much trouble! It has become the worlds largest yard sale.

On another note, I have low-balled people with offers before but, only in extreme circumstances. Like someone selling an item for $500 when comparable items (or exactly the same) are selling for $100. When they say no, I like to look back on them 6-8 months later to see them still for sale. I always wonder how they can keep paying listing fees for the outrageous.  :-\

Most of mine were already fire sale cheap. The $90 item was a large Fstop photography backpack w/ insert. Well over $300 new and mine was in mint condition. Sure $20 bucks.

The $4 item was a mini wireless keyboard that I paid 15-20 bucks for new.

Definitely not overpriced and then to get upset w/ you, demand free shipping or threaten you with a bad review.

There is a Thai word, I can't spell it, but phonetically it is kean-yow and is basically a cheap bastard that I usually mutter when I'm dealing with one of those people.

Holy hell man, I've been building for 5 years and this is the first time I've ever seen this or anything like it. Got any more incredible helpful information that has never been mentioned before?

I thought about this the other day.

Some ppl like to twist their wires and it's hard to get it perfect by hand.

If you want it perfect then chuck up the ends of your wires. Then hold the other end and go slow to medium.

You will have perfectly twisted wires.
