Tayda and Small Bear, but the colors are like the Crayola box of 8 crayons (red, yellow, blue...)

Awful.  So sorry to hear that. Here are my two, Greta and Gunnar:

Here's a couple pedal enclosures where I cut the graphics on the cricut.  The material is colored adhesive vinyl.  The cricut cuts very precisely.

Yeah—unless someone new jumps in, it looks like hobbyist access to powder coat (beyond black/white and a few other solid colors) is gone. Tayda has powder coated enclosures in some more colors, but I'm not really sure what they're using.

I bought a few different color enclosures from PPP earlier this year as part of my first - and now apparently last - buy from them.  I've got a few unusual colors left, and now I'm sure I'll save these enclosures for years waiting to use them on something really really special....

Ummm, what's a "radius punch"?  One of the more annoying things about white decals is getting a clean edge on the corners.

Whoops, didn't notice the message above --- disregard...

Here's a link to the one I got. (Shamed to admit I haven't figured out how to post pics yet, or I'd have done that too... :-\)

Re the Cricut Explore machine:  I've used one to make vinyl decals and labels for pedals. I think it's very good.  Here's a couple things to know.
- I do believe you need internet access. The user interface is like a browser plug in, and it seems to want you to log in every time
- Operation is a little confusing at first, but it's really easy to use.
- It does NOT print - only cuts
- The cutting head works very well and cuts cleanly.
- Don't try and print then cut an intricate outline of that printed object. The registration isn't that tight.  Printing then cutting works well for simpler outlines, or cases where you won't really notic if the cut doesn't exactly correspond to the border of the printed object
- I wouldn't use it to cut out rectangular pedal decals.  I use an exacto knife then a radius punch on the corners.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses, and also to whoever dm'd me about 'electronics for guitarists'. I've got a lot of studying to do!

I'm new to DIY pedals and want to develop my understanding of electronics as related to effects, and maybe someday amps.  I studied mechanical engineering, and my basic electronics courses were 35 years ago. So I understand a bit but not a lot. I recently bought 'Electrical Engineering 101' by Darren Ashby which is excellent so far. I've also found the Electrosmash site which has good info on some classic circuits.

Are there other books or resources that any of you would recommend?

Thanks

Open Discussion / Re: Xcorcist pedal install pots

I just started building pedals earlier this year. For my very first build, I used a Kit from Aion.  https://aionelectronics.com/  The Kit instructions were an excellent resource for someone completely new to building, and IIRC mentioned details like needing to break off the pot alignment tabs, and installing insulators between the pots and the PCB. So it might be worth checking out the Aion web site, and looking at the Kit build docs.  There's great info in them for new builders.

Solved this with a swap of the Vol pot. I originally had a linear pot as that was what the build called for. I swapped it for a LOG 100K and it feel much better.

I've noticed a lot of build docs call out linear pots for Volume, but from what I've read, it seems like log taper is made for Volume controls.  I'm new to pedal DIY, but I've just started to use log taper for all volume control, regardless of what the build doc says.

Nice. I have this PCB in my build queue. How do you like the sound?

That looks great.  I know it's not cool, but I'm a BOSS fan, although I've never heard this pedal.  I would definitely be interested in the PCB.  Do you plan on posting a demo video?

Arrow.com

Free shipping, no minimum order. The search function blows (triple check to make sure you're getting the right sized resistors) and they deforsest small nations to package single orders, but its great for those "ah hell, I forgot" moments

Thanks for the tip.  I might try them. Then again, once the build docs for the Harbinger 1.5 and Polytrog are posted, I'm probably going to want to add those to the queue and buy parts for those, so I might just hold off for now and go on to the next project.
