That is really crisp.  I love "guardians of the analog."  Did you heatshrink the transistor legs?
Thanks, I do my best ! The transistor legs I just used yellow wire and stripped the outer coating and put it over the legs.

Had this set of transistors from small bear sitting around for a while and I decided to finally put them to use. Really like Brian's newer layouts on these boards and makes building very easy. Sounds great especially with the jazzmaster. What a big muff wishes it was. Great volume cleanup. OG Wasp/Janet Van Dyne seemed appropriate for this build, even mad the transistors match the box. No film decal on Tayda powder coat. First thing that I played was Tom Petty's honey bee, it ripped! Now buzz about...

This is really great guys! No one is better at the execution no film like John and his roland space echo style is truly some top notch stuff. And another super clean build from Gordo as well. Love this type of colab!

No problem I'll do it this weekend. I built it on a pedalpcb board. I decided to change out the Q3 bias resistor with a trim pot to dial it in. Other than that it was stock values.
Chrism the fuzz man... great stuff.
I'd actually be keen to get your take on hfe and leakage on all of those circuits, as a reference on here. There seems to be a fair bit of discussion and some confusion around, so having your take here as a reference would be great since you have been on a Fuzz binge recently.
Also, what tester do you use to measure or do you rely on given values by vendors/Smallbear etc?
Last not least, which schematic did you use for the Dizzytone, I believe I have seen some different ones, might be wrong, not sure. Have you got a link and how did you like that?
That's enough questions for the day I spose... ;)
Cheers!

This is the thread from last year where I detailed the changes from a buzzy to a dizzy. I'm actually planning on doing another buzzaround so I'll have a build report coming on that soon. I'll pull all my tonebenders and buzzaround/dizzy tones and do an actual reading on hfe/leakage. As for testing I built the R.G. Keen tester. I use it for both npn/pnp and si/ge transistors. I get great results with a bit of mathematics but it cost me pennies to build. I did the same with my jfet tester. I build them on the free samples of flooring from home improvement stores lol. When I do readings I wear insulated leather gloves (OJ!) So I don't warm up the transistor and wait 5 mins after powering it up as I know handling and power can affect germanium, silicon just let it rip. As far as schematics I look for vintage . If there are different revisions I look for the most common. Also anything David Main at DAM pedals has made is the gospel as far as fuzz so his schematics are golden as well. Lastly Kevin at aion has outstanding build docs with great substitutions for variants of circuits as well as transistor specs and biasing.

I have built a mk1, 1.5, 2, 3 and the scarab deluxe as well as a dizzy tone and buzzaround. I got all my sets of transistors from small bear and can give you hfe and leakage for whatever you need, assuming you have a bulk lot of transistors to sort thru.

I like the design of the graphic. It's a fun pedal, on bass or guitar!

Anybody know of any modulation or bbd doubler daughter boards that will work with the Setback?
I think Brian is releasing a deluxe version with dual BBD and possibly modulation. Not sure when though.

Great build! So is this the small as 125B version of Lowrider with chips on both sides or what is it derived from?
I believe the Pearl Octaver that the lowrider is based on but I wanna say its a 1590b!

That is a tight build, looks way harder than the Madbean lowrider I did. Great Job!

Thanks everyone, now to order parts, thinking of doing a uv print from tayda on this as well.

General Questions / Deadendfx doppelganger
April 26, 2021, 07:38:35 AM
I have two questions as I'm about to order parts. First, will it fit it a 1590DD? Is the added height really needed, or will it fit with the jacks as close to the lid as possible? I don't mind filing the lip on the base plate to clear the jacks. Second, is there a way to wire it without the lfo expression jacks or are they necessary to have it work? I don't plan on using expression pedals so it would be cool to not have to add them. Anyone who has built it I would really appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Chris

This! The build doc bias procedure has always worked for me. But trust me if I had an O-scope I would so be following along!
