Build Reports / Re: PedalPCB Tweed Mand and Covert

These turned out great, the 5f6 pedal sounds awesome going into a tweed amp. Graphics look good, real professional looking. Is that the no film decal?

Hell yeah, that turned out great. This is a vfe I might actually like to build. The painting is excellent too.

Phantastic Phaser Phriday should be a thing, I guess it is now. Nicely executed Smoothie there. Phase 45 is cool, I did a board recently for SMD JFETs. Was feeling impatient so just slapped on the first 2 MMBF5457s off a reel and hey presto - had phasing. Still need to box that one, was going to do an etched enclosure but it seems I need to practice my hot iron skills. Looking forward to the next installments, and to any and all phaser phamily photos.

Thanks, I have a mix a smaller circuits, medium sized circuits and week 5 is a big one. Might even do week six as an honorable mention cause I'm doing a reboxing of a prior one from last year. Not happy with how it turned out so I'm redoing it. Phaser phriday should definitely be a thing, your right!

Build Reports / Phaser phriday mxr phase 45
March 26, 2021, 05:35:19 AM
Inspired by Dan's vfe Friday I decided to do phaser fridays. I have 5 phaser boards I've been meaning to do so it's the perfect time. So the next 5 weeks I will be giving Jimi something to drool over.
First up is a phase 45. Last year my cousin got my old phase 45 and phase 90. They were kit builds from when I first started building and he is like the world's biggest Van Halen fan so he got them when eddie died. So I ordered some new boards earlier this year. I don't like mini pedals (big feet, feels unstable) so I ordered the fuzzdog phase 45. They just call it a p45 and that's uninspired so I called it a smoothie like Brian's board. I had order a lot of 2n5952s from smallbear 2 years ago and when I went thru them I had 2 pairs and a quad so I lucked out. Sounds good, like a phase 45 should.
For the enclosure I used silk for the artwork, cause silk is smooth lol. She's actually a pretty badass character and hope the show she's getting will be good. No film waterslide decal on tayda matte orange powder coat. Phase on!

That turned out great gordo, old school diy! And a history lesson to boot.

When I built my musket fuzzes I used the Aion boards and then changed tone and mids control to the colossus specs and the rest of the circuit to either green russian or violet rams head specs. I much prefer the colossus tone stack to that of the musket and is easier to dial in.

You should print up some artwork too!
This! Effects layout has done 3d printed faceplates that look awesome. You could secure it to an enclosure and hold it in place with the mounting nuts for your pots and footswitch. You could even offer it as a service if one were so inclined.

love it, bootsy ftw!

The enclosure us fantastic as is your wiring. What jfets did you go with? I had a lot of 5952s that I was able to get a quad and pair from that I am doing a couple builds with right now.

That looks killer.  I ended up building two of them.  One for a buddy and kept the other one.  You're right: it's chorus for people that don't like chorus.

I've never tried running mine in stereo and I think the Waza videos are all stereo.
It's definitely worth trying it in stereo, at the very least you could use it to run two amps at once

Love the color and theme! Also, I appreciate the detailed build pictures. Makes this feel more doable.  :)
thanks, I think the project is more than doable if one just follows the build doc. There is nothing too complicated going on in the circuit.

Congrats on this build!  Looks great!

I think this project should be considered a rite of passage build, which everyone must complete at some point.  It is not simple, but Kevin has laid it out really well and has written very nice instructions.  The result is quite rewarding--chorus without sea sickness.   8)
I agree, It's a great circuit, and one I have been putting off for a while. I had the boards for like 8 months. I did way more complex builds that required matched components and complex calibration (I'm looking at you Lectricfx lol) but the hardest part was drilling the enclosure. I wanted to make sure everything had clearance. But A rewarding build it is.

So I asked Brian and this is what he told me: "It should be 100k. I don't know how 50k ended up in the BOM. IIRC, I tried a few different values and even used a 250k at one point, but 100k is what I remember being the best choice. Not that it makes a huge difference - the larger size will give some more range for shallow depth settings."
Choice is yours to make. I'm gonna go with 100k on my build.
