Looks good Chris!
Have you tried swapping out the opamp with the Motorola metal-can one I sent to see if there's any noticeable difference?
Like I said, I never got around to testing the DIP8 chips to see if they were genuine.
Either way, it is an absolute monster. I'm definitely thinking of building another one to keep for myself!
I tested them both Drew and both sounded good. So anymore Dip8 308s in your stash should be good assuming they are in the same lot.

Damn, that thing looks amazing! You've really been killing it lately! I really need to get around to building one of these. I sold my Rat clone to a buddy for him to use on bass and while I've been having fun with my fuzz pedals, I still kinda miss it.
Thanks, if you build it, you wont be disappointed.

This. I know you said it's a cold winter  in Detroit, but damn. You're pushing out like 2 or 3 a week, and they look sharp.

Man, that looks awesome!  I might have to break the glass on my emergency 308 and try one these out. Is the boost after the Rat?
It is, this thing sounds stellar on bass too

Build Reports / EQD Life pedal-S.W.O.R.D.

This thing is massive sounding! Take a Rat,  give it multiple clipping options, then add a switchable octave and tack on a clean boost. Whatever tweaks were made to the main circuit make it sound very in your face and the octave is mixed in perfect. It just oozes vintage vibes and can't be mixed in to be present and up front or chill more in the background. The boost is a clean boost to simply give more volume or push the front end of an amp. This is not just a stoner/doom/drone metal pedal but is versatile enough for any type of rock music. This is getting velcro now.
The original pedal had crosses on each side just like I laid out on mine so I pulled inspiration from the Sword logo. The center sword logo was used from the run of comics were the x-men were in space.  No film waterslide decal on tayda grey powder coated enclosure. All white wiring to keep it classy. Shout-out to Drew Hallenbeck for the lm308 helping make this project possible.

I had NO idea how much Mouser has apparently changed in the last few years, and I am now looking at spending a boatload of $$$ to get the ⅛w resistors for a Man O' War Deluxe. I've had spotty luck with Tayda resistors values in the past; Small Bear would probably be over $60 for all the values I need; and the Vishays at Mouser are about the same size as ¼w. Any ideas?

Barring that, will I have to use ¼w and stand them up?
I've bought quite a bit of tayda 1/8 watt resistors and had no problems. On the rare occasion they don't have a value I usually teepee in series two values to get what I need. Or you could just get that odd value they don't sell from smallbear.

Man, I missed these the first time around.  These are awesome!
Thanks John, the no film is the shit! It makes doing enclosures super easy. Even going back and doing old drilled out enclosures is a breeze

So here we are a year later since I first ditched the dymo label maker and took my first shot at making labels. A lot has changed but I decided to revisit these and do some actual enclosure art. I feel I've come a long way since I did these and here are my new designs. The uni-vibe was simple, Cyclops. The mxr flanger was stupid simple, Brian gave it to me in the project name, Colossus. It was fun revisiting these and I have another one I need to do to finish out these first attempts at graphics. Thanks for all the inspiration and encouragement, you guys really push me to be better at this.

That's awesome, I was just looking at those. I like a good jbass too. The PBass is real spanky and the jbass is a mellow bottom end. Both have their place. Color me jealous man.

I like the way the jazz bass looks but the precision plays and sounds like a bass should in my head. If I could get a Mark Hoppus bass. Jazz bass body with a single P-bass pickup.

Open Discussion / NBD-Fender P-bass

The only bass I've had for years is a squier short scale jaguar bass. I've never been thrilled with it, it has a number of issues I've been unhappy with for a long time. The short scale doesn't do it for me, the bridge rattles like crazy, the jazz bass pickup is not my thing, the basswood body is too light and it has crazy neck dive and the nut width is too narrow for me. I've dealt with it but always wanted a new bass. But not being a regular bass player always made me say just deal with it. Got a good deal from musicians friend and got it delivered last night.
It's a player series precision bass in polar white with the pau ferro fretboard. This thing slays. Going thru my ampeg combo amp it sounds really good. Ran some fuzz and phaser with it and I am so happy with it. On the squier I only used the P-bass pickup and this with the alder body and regular scale length really brings that classic bass tone. Only thing I might change is putting a mint green pickguard  on. I'll do some cavity shielding and that's it, play the shit out of this thing. Watch for some bass pedals soon haha

Looks good!  I'm glad you like it.

How many fuzzes have you made the past few months?
Thanks John. Are you fuzz shaming me bro? Lol I don't need that kind of negativity.

Great work! What does that pinch knob do?

A year ago? That was a year ago.....goodness time flies
Time flies dude...as for the pinch knob, this is from the build doc: Pinch changes the pulse width of the waveform, from symmetrical square wave on the left, to
asymmetrical on the right. It also affects the amount of gating.

Nice fuzz, it's great for bass too. When are you building a fuzz factory? That thing is chaos.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I built a fuzz factory last year, Dan (jjjimi84) painted me an enclosure with Roger from American Dad. It's a wild one for sure. I'm getting a new bass so I'm gonna try this out on it as well. I'm also gonna do some bass pedals soon too.

Build Reports / Aion penumbra-mastotron/woolly mammoth
February 19, 2021, 09:22:48 PM
This board was given to my by Bio77 so thanks John, even if this circuit wasn't for you lol. I think it rips. It's got that fuzzy factory thing going on, but all silicon. And boy does it get fat, the subs switch is awesome. Kevin also changed the mastotron impedance knob over to a pickup simulator which kinda makes more sense to me. Makes running it after a buffer possible. I went with Rhino for the enclosure because he has a horn and that's close enough to a woolly mammoth for me haha, and he looks as mean as this thing sounds. No film decal on tayda grey powder coated enclosure.

Sweet fuzzyness, great build! Talk about low part count on that... even two jumpers and a blank spot...
thanks, and the blank spot is for a clr for the led. I guess I could fave filled it haha

I do look forward to your builds, love the Marvel theme.  Can't say I've ever heard of the character this time.

Little cowboy hats for the knobs would have been over the top.  ;)
Thanks, glad people dig it, I have fun with it. I get so much inspiration from everyone here and I really wanted to have my thing like so many of you have your thing going on in your designs. As for the character, I hadn't read any of the old western comics marvel did, but I remembered that there was time travel in one comic and the hulk interacted with him and that's where I came up with the idea. And yeah, cowboy hat knobs would have been way over the top!  ;D

That looks great!  I'm digging the bare metal on your last few builds.

I have stripped a few Tayda boxes by wrapping them in paper towels soaked with acetone and leaving them in a plastic bag for a few hours.  Then I used a razor blade to scrape off the paint before sanding.
Thanks, John The bare metal is a cool look with the no film. And that acetone on paper towel in a bag is a great idea, gonna have to try for sure! Also, another build report incoming with the board you sent me.
