Build Reports / Fuzzrite
February 17, 2021, 05:24:16 PM
Here is another super simple fuzz that I've had forever. I built a general guitar gadgets version years ago but it was a hot mess of spaghetti. This one turned out really good. This was a powder coated tayda box that got a stew mac nut vise dropped on it and messed up the paint on the top. Took a long time to sand all that stuff off and get this level of smooth. For the art work I dug deep in the marvel catalog to go with the spaghetti western pedigree of the fuzzrite, the Rawhide Kid from their wild west series  back in the day. The No Film decal turned out great on this and I even went with OG fuzzrite style knobs to round it out. Of course it totally sounds the part too!

Very nice.

I would be mildly concerned about twisting together the input and output wires, but if you don't have any noise/oscillation issues, then I suppose it's fine.  8)
When someone smarter than me offers advise, I take it. I untwisted them and made sure they weren't touching. Thanks for the heads-up, I wasnt thinking about it when I did it.

Build Reports / Harmonic Percolator

This is another cool fuzz. I bought the board over a year ago and never got to it. This thing is nasty sounding, and the diode lift makes it really versatile...more open and lots of volume. Went with OG specs over the ones in the pepper spray build doc. Luke Cage on the front, and if you know the show then you know he doesn't drink coffee...lol no film decal on yellow tayda powder coated enclosure.

Nice! You must have a hell of a parts stockpile over there, you're on fire.

VFE builds are most addicting.
lol too good. cool build and always nice when the kids get involved.

Dude I got more knobbies than the AVN awards show.

Does anyone know approximate hfe and leakage for ge trannies in a Buzztone? I searched the internet and got lots of contradictory results.

Unbelievablely cool! As a die hard Cap fan this just blows me away. Killer work
Thanks Dan, I really liked the design and really like the black on polished aluminum look. if it's a build your interested in I could always do one for you, or another cap design for a different pedal, I owe you one!

Build Reports / Aion Monad - Univox Unidrive

This is a fun drive/fuzz. This is full frequency so it will really push the bottom end. I find it really shines into an amp that's  already overdriving some. The original had a  stepped input and drive was controlled by a wah like foot treadle. Kevin also added a tone control that's an input capacitor blend for taming the low end and an internal feedback adjustment trimmer. This thing really cooks a tube preamp. Can get fuzzy/doomy with p90s into my tweed amp, some really bitchin tones.
The enclosure was a smallbear blue powder coat I had that was darker than the pic on the website and the graphic just didn't have enough contrast. So I sanded it down. My first time on a bare enclosure with the no film. I learned it's best to take the time to work out all imperfections to get a uniform surface. Still turned out cool, has a little bit of a distressed look. Kevin named it the Monad but I took some liberties with the name and gave it a Nomad Steve Rogers theme.

Great video Dan, the intro really showed the pedal and what it can do, and some great playing too!

I would like to see a fz-1a fuzz in a silicon version, could simulate leakage with resistors. Wouldn't mind it in a 1590g or 125b either, small box and big feet is a bad combo

That one came out super, from the concept to the execution!  8)

I'm a lime green man myself  ;D  Actually, on my BOTY the tapper was lawn and the pedal was lime, not much of a difference to my eyes.  I wonder why Tayda decided to have both of these? Also mysterious is how both are rarely ever in stock simultaneously.
Thanks, sometimes an idea comes together on multiple levels and comes across coherent. I agree its wierd that tayda does those greens like that, but they look cool either way.

Spiffin build again, knocked outta the park!
Thanks, I actually thought about blacking this enclosure out like you sometimes do, I thought the contrast in color would look killer!

Mention Josh Homme and I'm in! Some real Icarus vibes with the culture there, love it!

Build Reports / Crooked Vulture- Dunlop Q-Zone
February 08, 2021, 05:39:41 PM
I used to have an original Dunlop Q-Zone that I got because I am a big Joshua Homme fan. In a purge to fund a large purchase. Of course it was discontinued and prices went up after  queens of the stone age got really big. I've had this board forever and said it's time...man this hits the spot. So many awesome tones in this thing, from money for nothing, qotsa and of course mick ronson. I pulled a vintage spiderman vulture image in my tribute to one of Homme's best works, them crooked vultures. No film on tayda powder coated lawn green.
