Build Reports / Re: Forum Vibe

Now that's awesome, I wish I could read a schematic well enough to make my own pcb or even make my own pcb in general.
That switch is a glorious monster, I think it's cool in the pedal and a voice switch is definitely a nice touch.

Not sure about that, but I have seen a video reducing the resistance by scraping a little away.

The alpha I opened when I broke the PCB at the legs didn't seem to have much material and I think it was 100k.

General Questions / Need assistance

I know I am cross posting, but... no one seems to really check this sub topic.

Need help doing some diagnostics, danfrank set me on a course of what to check, now I need someone smarter to confirm.

You should print up some artwork too!
This! Effects layout has done 3d printed faceplates that look awesome. You could secure it to an enclosure and hold it in place with the mounting nuts for your pots and footswitch. You could even offer it as a service if one were so inclined.

Looks cool, love the orange!
I've been wanting to experiment with a 3D printed enclosure for a while, good to know it can be done.

You should print up some artwork too!

I might give that a try, could be fun and easier to paint since orange is the last bit of filament I have. XD

Working on the amp I posted about, getting some odd readings and I am thinking I found the issue, will post about it on that thread though.

I bet relay switching will put less stress on it.

Definitely, it's pretty solid as is, but if it had a coat of paint it would probably last a bit longer.
When the translucent enclosures are back in stock and I have the funds to spend $11 a box, they will be re-homed and have all the boxing issues known with solutions especially for my vfe builds, the triumvirate needs figured out before I drill into a aluminum box and I ordered the exact knobs listed for the alpha dog and triplet. hoping the new model knob was the issue and not something up with the drill guide.

With this one I definitely enjoyed cutting up a drill guide and moving the bits around to make my own which will come in handy for the bazz fuzz that is showing up finally on tuesday, had to re-order it with tracking so customs would let it through, first pedal is now 5th. XD

Awesome! How durable does it feel under foot?

I don't feel any flex, but I'm just pressing with my toe until it engages and while installing the knobs I noticed they were a tight fit and a little flex was felt, but the center is more prone to a 1/16 of a inch when pressed hard.
Printed with no infill, it's all walls and solid.

I intend to build a rack that fits on my desk eventually, but after testing they sit on my desk.

They come out pretty good, but yea I do have the stringing spiders that won't go away and the first layer has gaps because dip in the center of the bed.
Definitely makes it more fun though, I'd do knobs too, but I really liked the aluminum that I got from SmallBear.

I need to work out some real graphics, painters tape kind of takes away from it. XD

This was a nice and easy build, sounds cool too.
With a little bending and pushing the wires are holding the pcb in place pretty well and added some hot glue to just make sure nothing bounces around.

3D printed 1590B was definitely more of a joy to work in than the 1590A. XD

General Questions / Re: 3 or 7 band eq ge-7 based?

I ordered this one. https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/pcb369/
I also just bought a nice used Boss GE-7 on ebay just in case its crap.

Let me know how that pedal goes, it definitely seems geared toward different frequencies than the ge-7 and probably not a bad thing if you know what you are doing and change the values for what you want. (I am clueless there)

I realize the slots are hard to cut, but there are ways with basic tools and also realized I've been modeling and printing my boxes lately and slide faders wouldn't be a problem if they aren't expensive and I've seen a pedal in a old DIY video that used only knobs which gave a finer control apparently.

I think somebody makes a six band eq board with sliders, but I don't remember where I saw that. It's harder to cut slots for sliders than it is to drill holes for pots though.

I remember a few people using two of the thcustom 5 band eq board to make a 10 band eq by changing cap values and hooking them up in series.

Interesting, I was thinking maybe knobs over sliders would be easier, but having the 3 band available too would be good.
It would be one heck of a beast pedal, right now I'm using my mixer for the 3 band, but if I had a pedal instead it would be better, even if I had to make some changes so I can route audio into my pc and amp differently and I have been thinking of using the amp send instead of the mixer anyway.

Probably going to sell the mixer, so I was thinking I need a pedal, I've had it for maybe a month and it's more than I need.  :o

General Questions / 3 or 7 band eq ge-7 based?
March 19, 2021, 10:49:45 PM
Was wondering if there is one or if you can make one up Brian.
Maybe you could make it have both and optional to have both on or one at a time.

All knobs or sliders for the 7 band if reasonable to build.

http://vfepedals.com/triumvirate.html

Head over to the VFE website to learn about the circuit. Click on different parts of the block diagram and the actual pedal image for lots of good info.

This thing is essentially a giant, super tweakable, 3 band EQ. EQ consists of different ways of using a "filter". Learning about filters is a cornerstone of audio signal processing. My suggestion is to learn about how to make a HPF "High Pass Filter" and a LPF "Low Pass Filter" usig a RC "Resistor/Capacitor" circuit. From their I'd move on to learning about the differences in "Series" and "Parallel" signal chains.

Sorry, I know that's a non-answer.

It was a good answer actually, gives me places to research and new things to learn.

Took the pedal over to my friends and he spent a good 45 minutes playing while i tweaked the knobs, he's more a rack guy and thought this pedal was killer, better even.
It definitely has a massive range for tones, we stumbled across a really nice 70's fuzz and a blues sounding tone within a few minutes.

Very nice.

The leds are clipping off the peaks and troughs of you guitar signal as it come thru which causes distortion. The light you see is the discarded voltage from your signal

Connecting the SND & RTN looks like it would provide an additional clean path  from the PRE to the output mix point. So it would be a clean blend if you connected a volume control between those points

Interesting, I didn't mess with it while testing a lot to see when it happend, but that's cool.
So it would work the same as my amp basically?
I'd imagine you would extend ground from the other jacks and then it could be used or is this a different kind of send return? I'm still kind of new to this stuff.
I haven't actually tested it, so, If.. it actual does what I suggested, it would not be in series like most amp effects loops. It would be a parallel signal which would split your clean signal, and then mix back in later on with the distorted signal.
So it could potentially fatten up the sound?

Yeah, there is an article on there about the Siamese Dream muff. I think the common thought is that its a IC muff, but I think there is some uncertainty about if that is what was actually used. I doubt anybody knew the difference between different versions back then.

At any rate, if that is the sound you are after then the IC muff is definitely the one you want.

There is a pic of the one Corgan used on this page:

http://www.kitrae.net/music/big_muff_users.html

That's exactly the pedal that comes to mind when I hear Big Muff, so the OpAMp version would be closest... I intend to finance Brian a bit more in the future and buy all pedals available, even if just to build them, but I'd like to start with the one that I like first.
