Of course, this is the real cover to 'Is This It'

described as "either a stylish or graphically strong cover or a sexist Smell the Glove travesty."

General Questions / Re: Clear Shaft Pot for LED

There's a group buy going on at FSB for the clear Davies style knobs

Here's a thumbs up for more original designs from me too.

It is a shame about the Sunking but if the build documents are still going to be there at least you can etch your own board.

Requests / Re: Real Tube Overdrive

Try the Baja Real Tube Overdrive project at FSB.

http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1790

Bajaman sells PCBs for these.

I've got two I'm currently building, just a few caps short of finishing. The thing that's hard to get hold of are the power supplies.

You've got an old circuit there, they don't have any diodes in them. have a look at this:
http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/wahpedl/wahped.htm

Your circuit should be very similar.

As said by previous posters, you've probably blown the electrolytic cap or one of the transistors. The 'big cap' is the inductor, you won't have blown that.

Build an audio probe, see here:
http://www.diystompboxes.com/pedals/debug.html
and check the circuit to see where the signal stops when it's powered on, the part before that is the most likely to be your culprit.

Good luck!

I use white lithium grease. It comes in a spray can. I find it easiest if you spray it on some card first and then use an ice cream stick to apply it on the rack and pinion, otherwise it spatters everywhere.

Thanks for the compliments  :)

The font is Deutsch Gothic http://www.dafont.com/deutsch-gothic.font?text=centaur and it's free.

The LED bezel is from Banzai http://www.banzaimusic.com/LED-Socket-5-IN-BK.html a bit expensive but a quality one.

You're right about the BOM being a PITA, I had to order from Mouser for the first time to get some of the funky resistor values. I made sure I ordered some other strange components at the same time, like those little trimpots for the Aquaboy. Still, it all adds to the authenticity.

As far as the sound goes, I've only played it through Guitar Rig and my stereo but as far as I can tell it's a pretty transparent overdrive, it doesn't seem to affect the guitar tone too much. I've got no idea how it compares to the sound of the 'real thing' and I probably never will. The closest I've come to one was at a Sonic Youth gig. ::)

Build Reports / Sunking
December 18, 2010, 07:55:01 PM
Here's some pictures of my Sunking build. Managed to get it in a 125B quite easily. Just don't call it a Klon, that's the name of the company!  :P

I'm a sucker for top jacks, more space on the pedal board.  :D

Many thanks to Brian for the great PCB.  ;D

This is cool. I was working on a layout for the Trembulator with an output buffer but you beat me to it and added extra icing! I'll definitely be building this one soon.  :)

Yay for the Sunking boards. I bought two just because they are red! Now I need some see-thorugh enclosures to show them off. I tried buying some made of transparent aluminium but it hasn't been invented yet  ;)
