I can't seem to figure this one out. I built it according to BOM. But after I discovered that it squeals like a pig in HP mode with gain on full and volume on about 60% I changed the volume pot to 100K, it still squeals :(
It's not boxed up, but the oscillations are so strong that I don't think the box will stop the squealing.
Here is a photo:

I have checked for solder bridges over and over.

Does anyone have a EgoDriver with LEDs in sockets? if so, would you do me a favor and check if you hear the difference with and without the LEDs in the socket (in LED clipping mode)?

Hi. I finally got some time to build a pedal again.
I have a question about the clipping mod.
I can hear a difference when I toggle the clipping switch from normal to diode clipping, but when the switch is in diode mode I can't hear the difference from when D3 and D4 are empty and when I put LED's in them. When the leds are in, they light up when playing, but they don't seem to affect the sound.

I have tried 5mm red diffused, 3mm clear blue and 5mm clear green.
I tried some D9E's, they are the only ones that have affected the sound so far in the form of a volume drop.
Is this normal? Is the clipping effect so subtle that I can't hear it`?

Thank you!

Build Reports / Chimaera / KL0N with switchable buffer
October 08, 2013, 12:16:38 PM
I built some Chimaeras with the v.1 boards and added a switchable buffer.
I only had two water slide decals left, and I mannaged to mess up/oversize the first print (the purple box)

Mods / Re: EHX Holy Grail Reverb- Whine

Is it the big or small box? I have tested both, and the big box was a little more noisy, but no whine.
What are you powering it with?

That's allot of cables, switches and pots!
Good job!

General Questions / Re: A 470k pot???
June 12, 2013, 12:53:12 PM
buy a some 500K pots and measure them, because of the tolerance one of them might me 470K, but as Jon said a 500K would do anyway.

Thanks!
I built it with a 100kB VOL pot, but all my other muffs are 100kA.
I'm not sure if I can hear a difference, I usually play with vol and gain cranked anyway :)
Yea, the powdercoat is stunning!

I started out with the Creamy Dreamer spec, but it could not take the signal of my neck pickup or POG, it just farted out and sounded "muffeled" :)

I did some tweaks, and now I'm really happy with it.
Here are the subs I did from the Creamy Dreamer spec.

R5, R11, R16 - 100R
R8, R13, R22 - 10K
R23 - 2k7
R18 - 20K trimmer (set to about half way up, MID mod)

C2, C5, C8 - 470pF
C6, C9 - 100n
C10 - 22n (MID mod)

VOL POT - 100kB

It's not a Creamy Dreamer any more, but it can be used in a band :)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: sunking 3 diode

The sunking/KLON is mostly used as a low gain booster, not a distortion unit :)
If you want gain, you should build another project maybe? :)

Excellent builds, I'm going to use your mod on my T-Wrex for sure!

On the Blackbird, what value did you use on the C2, C6 and C9? and did you experience any squealing or oscillating in boost when volume and gain are cranked?

I changed R23 from 390R to 2K7 now and it sounds much better, and it's not crapping out anymore.
Not sure if I should put a 10K in R22 instead of 2K2.
Collector on q4 is now at about 8volt.

I built the Mudbunny v2012 to Creamy Dreamer spec, no subs exept: R22 2K2, C6 47n, C10 3n9, all pots are 100KB.
When I play and strum hard the sound is muffeled, overloaded, unclear, especially on frets higher than 5 on low E.
I don't know exactly how to describe it, but non of my other muffs does this.
I use Fairchild 2n5088 transistors and have tested with others NOS 549B with same result.
The Transistor voltage with supply voltage of 9,3V is:
Q1
E 0V
B 0,57V
C 4,09V

Q2
E 0V
B 0,57V
C 4,08V

Q3
E 0V
B 0,56V
C 4,02V

Q4
E 0,67
B 1,25
C 4,96

Does anyone know what's wrong, or is it supposed to be like this?

here is a photo of the guts:

I did use the search, but I could not find the same exact problem.

Good looking and nice Fuzz texture in the sound clip!

I got a production unit so I could compare mine with the real deal.
There are no 10pF's in the production unit, there are 3 100pF caps. (WIMA 100/100) I soldered one out to measure it, and it is 100pF.

When I swapped the three 10pF in my build with 100pF there are no more squeal.

Here is a photo of the production unit:
