It is a pretty tight a*se crowd over there isn't it ;)

That doesnt even come close, i had a seymour duncan 59 neck pickup with short leads, and wrapped with electrical tape on there.  Due to the leads and tape i put it on for £20 + postage, pretty fair i thought.  Only had an offer of £20 delivered, so that would be £17 in my pocket, i dont think so, mate.

Stuck it on ebay, and got £40+ not including postage.

I built one after john built his.  We tried a few of the 4069 ics, and an nxp hef4069ubp was the quietest.

It's still not silent, but no circuits using cmos inverters are. Definately worth a build, sounds great.

Are you scrubbing the ICs? Might be camera angle but it looks like the ICs have been de-masked  :o

No, just hard to see.

juan & cleggy have become so adept with all this stuff, i figured they needed the extra challenge of working in "mirror mode".  that's the new "genius level". ;)

A genius wouldn't have reversed all the transistors, and then had to put them back in the right way.  It's only mirror horizontally.

Dave,  I dont get it running down the sides anymore, I can just about get the perfect amount everytime.  If I realise theres a little too much i use the stirring stick and scoop off 1cm along the edge, so it never gets the chance to run down the sides.

The last 8  pours have been pretty much perfect, the best i've done.

The envirotex is noticably clearer when i've mixed it when warmed, and much less bubbles when applied.

Fantastic stuff. The Maestro sounds are jaw-dropping. Is that the one Moog designed?

Bean's Stage Fright and the Maestro Stage Phaser are the Moog designed ones, these Maestro's are earlier and designed by Oberheim.

I think it's the 4n7 cap that throws the blanket over the cab.

The caps are a low pass filter dependent on the position of the volume pot.  So it's a volume and tone control in one.

I've found that the current lover is incredibly noisy before putting into an enclosure.

I've got a 55, it doesn't handle JFETs at all really, just identifies as a JFET, and can only identify the gate.

You shouldn't have to pay VAT if you live outside of the EU.

Build Reports / First experiment with SMD
October 06, 2013, 09:12:42 AM
Some SMD J201s mounted on 4x4 vero board, legs added, filed down as small as possible.

Holes drilled in a candle, surplus Envirotex from some enclosures poured in, and J201s drowned in it.

Leave a few days, crack the candle, wipe with some solvent, and paint.

A lot of work, but the J201s do only cost 13p each, and anything else is just surplus and essentially free.
And they do look like some 1960s mojo trannies,  TGP would lap them up.

No idea what's going on there.

The jfet is part of the bypass switching.  Is the cap connected between the jfet and pot?

Should work jumping the resistor side of the vactrols.  What vactols are they?  This one had VTL5C9s.

Here's a schematic.

This is the original article about the PSU
http://www.ledsales.com.au/kits/nixie_supply.pdf

Reading the DIYSB thread it seems that a 150uH inductor is better than the original 100uH, mine is a 120uH, 2.5A rated one, it doesnt get hot, but the mosfet does and needs a heatsink.

The vero layout is slightly wrong, the 2.2k and 100pf are on the wrong side of the UF4004 diode.
