General Questions / Plate Etching
March 07, 2012, 11:24:32 AM
Hey there guys,

If I could ask those of you that are etching metal plates... Where do you get your material?  I would like to try etching a few badges while I'm experimenting with etching enclosures.  I've seen what looks like maybe 1/16 thickness or thinner metal badges etched on a few build reports ( including Mr. Bean) and think it looks awesome.  At first I thought y'all might be etching PCB material until I started comparing thicknesses.  Any help would be appreciated, but if you have a link that would be stellar!!

Thanks again.  Cheers,

General Questions / Ego Driver Mod Led Size
February 27, 2012, 09:46:25 PM
Hey guys,
I'm finishing up my Ego Driver and was about to fire away and solder up the led clipping mod when I had a thought about incorporating the LED's into part of the design of the enclosure (ala the owl eyes I've seen here with the Tremolo build).  As sound is WAY more important to me, is there any disadvantage to using 3mm water clears instead of the 5mm?  Has anyone tried this?  I'm still new to understanding how all of this stuff works.  I figured that if color has anything to do with it, then size might matter.  (no punn intended)

Thanks yet again

General Questions / Re: Pulse Film Caps

Mea Kulpa,  :-[ I should make this blanket statement that my respect for his majesty the grand Bean goes without question.  But for the sake of being official I will offer my humble gazillion thank you's to the Bean here and now  ;D

As far as the Op Amp I liked the OPA2604 the best and I changed the input cap to a 33n !!  My dreamy creamy drive.

edited for the correct value of cap 1 in my version.

El Dudarino,
Thanks for the reply.  I've been meaning to get back at you about the boards I bought.  TOTALLY cool.  The Serendipity is one of the drive sounds I've been hearing in my head but couldn't achieve until now!!.  I'm still finishing the Krank.  I had a brain freeze moment when I was ordering and didn't get the 470pf for it.

Your boards are great!!  Definitely had to up my soldering skills a little though!  The copper will wick my solder like  a thirsty camel!  Thanks for being such a value add here on this forum!

General Questions / Pulse Film Caps
February 20, 2012, 12:33:22 PM
This is probably a completely noob question, but can I use these caps for the smaller values ie 470p??

Is there any advantage in using these or should I just look in the silver mica / ceramic world??

Thanks again,

CJKbug,
WOW!!!  Totally not on my radar until today.  It smells too good to be true.  Cheaper than even the Carl Martin octo switch!!   Midi would make it awesome though (as I dream of buying my Strymon Timeline)!  I'm definitely hanging on to this when Brian releases all of the baby boards!!

I'm thinking up an idea that would have the 1590a's with no footswitch (ie always on) and a nice massive true bypass loop switcher.  I'm thinking it will still be pretty small and have ultimate rerouteing flexibility.  One drawback is that I would still be turning on each effect at a time instead of combinations. Believe me, I would love to have one of the GIG RIG boards to do all of the switching.  Money being what it is though, it's a little cost prohibitive.  I did see a switcher schem and doc at GGG using 8 sends and returns corresponding to dip switches and relays.  That's WAAAAAY over my head for now though!

I'm still excited as hell though for these wee ones!!

Open Discussion / Re: Am I being too subtle here?

Not offensive at all.  I think I would have been even more blatant like

"If you think you are gonna make a living off of riding my coattails & stealing my work without even the decency of crediting me with the original thought needed to start this kind of thing. . . I would be looking over my shoulder for the impending ass-whoopin' coming your way!"

But then there would be no room for anything else!

I can't wait to hear what this one sounds like!

Cool,

    THANK YOU plesur!!

I'm going to add this one to my printed notes!!!  With all of the guys on here stacking drives, making multi boxes etc.. this is invaluable info for those of us not gifted in schematic certainty!  This is the key to chorused delay or delayed chorus, tremolo-ed phase or phased tremolo etc!! (all of which I am interested in doing)!

Now to look for a small 3PDT switch. ( I don't know if I would be too keen on a footswitch when I'm messing with a boost circut.)

ps (just a thought.... for all of the etchers and daughter board makers out there.  This could be an easy sell to guys like me!)

General Questions / Simple order switch?
February 08, 2012, 02:20:20 PM
I would appreciate anyone who could help with this question.

Is there a simple way to install in order switch in the Krankasourus?

My fulltone gt 500 as a switch on top that lets you determine whethe.r or not you want the boost or the distortion first in the signal chain.  I was wondering if there would be any benefit to adding this to the Krankasourus.  I know it is quite a dramatic difference on the fulltone as to which 1 you have first.

this might actually be cool for those of us who want to put more than 1 effect in a box is well.  I'm just starting to fish so please excuse me if this is been addressed before.

Thanks guys,

B
