General Questions / Baxandall Tone Stack
July 06, 2012, 06:38:08 PM
I've been interested in using a more complex tone stack in overdrives lately and have been satisfied with those that use Baxandall/James tone stacks. However, after several Google searches there doesn't seem to be consistent schematics or examples of how to incorporate them into an existing circuit. Especially for guitar use instead of hifi use.
I have seen how the Xotic RC/AC booster uses one in essentially a Tubescreamer. Madbean also used one in his Tilt overdrive. Would you be able to essentially lift the same one and put it in another overdrive? Also it would be nice to know how to modify it to use in front of a boost (like an SHO). Some websites say there are impedance and loading issues with it, but not how to remedy it for guitar specific circuits.
So, can anybody help educate me on tone stacks?

FWIW, I know Duncan's TSC is a tool people often use for this but it doesn't seem to be Mac compatible.  :-\

If you didn't say that the yellowing was an accident, I would not have thought anything of it. Looks perfectly fine to me. Leave it.
Cool graphic by the way.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: PCB Mounted Pots

You can't use PCB mounted pots on every board. But you can make them usable for any board, just like you can use solder lug pots on any board. You just have to solder wires to the pins or use a piece of perf or vero to connect to the wires.

Thank you SO MUCH for the demo. The short brick is exactly what I was hoping for.

This is a work of art. Great job on the etch. I've got to learn to do that soon.

Nice, thorough demo, Paul.
You really showed the range of the gain pot. What taper did you use?

Vintage Klon mojo, eh? I love it.  8)

Nice build! I look forward to building up one of these soon.
You gotta go with the big silver knobs. Everyone knows they have more mojo.  ;)

Nice enclosure. The black sparkle is appropriate for a reverb.

Any chance for a clip of the short brick?  ;)

Really like the finish on that Klon. Did you do it yourself or is it from PPP?

300 ms to 30 second tail?  :o
Sounds excellent based on the demos. Price isn't bad either.

Wow, that is thoroughly squozen. Right down to the little bit shaved off to fit around that switch.

I'm excited about this project, but after seeing that, I'll probably wait until a fabbed one is available. :)

Hate to burst your bubble, but it looks like the Quadrovibe isn't going to be fabbed based on the main page. It no longer says "Coming Soon".  :-\

Interesting idea. I've thought about doing the same, only using a delay instead of reverb. How does the combo sound?

The washer thing you use always looks cool. Very steampunk.

There was no real reason for me to use such a high value. It was just what I happened to have nearby, and it worked perfectly fine.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Just trying to give back a little to the community.

I added a 1M pulldown resistor on the output. It did have a pretty loud pop before. Now it is as quiet as any other pedal I have.
