Build Reports / Glitterrattii with clipping options
October 05, 2011, 01:58:29 AM
Here's my first Glitterrattii build.  The toggle goes between stock silicon and red LED's.  The LED's are a little over-the-top and I may need to swap one out for something with less gain...we'll see (sometimes I like being over-the-top...mwahahahaha!)  Thanks to Jacob for help wiring the toggle and clippers!  I moved the footswitch down to the bottom of the pedal for easier foot access as i found it a convenient placement like on my Cusack.  Not thrilled about the battery being next to the board but I never use batteries anyway.  I just put the snap in for testing and "just in case" kind of thing.  Metallic Orange from PPP (can't really see the little sparkle it has from the pics).  Sounds great and was a fun build.

Great, thanks!  D2 is left blank?

Wiring the diodes to the switch makes sense, it's wiring the switch to the board that's tripping me up.  When you say...

just connect one pad of D1 to one middle lug, then the other pad to the other middle lug.

Are you meaning both pads on D1? ...or one pad of D1 and one pad of D2?  Does it matter which pad I use (aka square or round?)

Thanks!

I want to put two sets of clippers on one switch similar to the example for the sunking (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=1107.0),  but only using using one switch (2 clippers- 1N914 & LED)    I'm not sure how to wire it though.

1) Do I wire anode pad of D1--switch-- anode pad of D2? Or just put switch on D1 and jumper D2?

2) Do I wire the two clippers to each pole like ->-->-  or  ->--<-.

Thanks!

Thanks, been workin on my wiring.  My last four turned out pretty good.  Twisting the wires when appropriate has also helped...(got the idea from the guy who built the saggittary aka dual Sunking)

Build Reports / Grapevine
September 26, 2011, 03:33:08 AM
Just put together my Grapevine.  Turned out great!  Experimented with some J201's but went with the stock 2n5457.  On my cheap solid state practice amp the J201's sounded more aggressive and clear while 5457's had a little less gain and a muddier midrange, but once I tested it through my Orange the difference was minimal.  I've also decided to quit  building pedals in 1590/1290 size boxes and it's made all the difference in the world.  I was always trying to cram everything in there, esp because I mount my jacks on top but going with the 125's has made the process way more enjoyable and my wiring comes out much neater too.  I also moved the stomp switch to the bottom and put the battery on the side so I could lay the board flat.  Color is Psycho Vein from PPP.  Fun build!  :)

If I had to pick, I would have to say Cusack Screamer, Keeley Rat, Empress Vintage Modified Superdelay and TU-2...no one wants to hear you play out of tune  ;)

I want to mod the clipping section of my Glitterrattii and Serendipity with switchable clipping options.  So if i understand this section of the forum correctly  (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=1107.0) I can replace D1 and D2 of the glitterrattii with toggles and my choice of diodes.

Q1: Do I need to keep the direction of the polarity the same as the originals or can I flip one diode's polarity around for a different sound?

Q2: What about the Serendipity since it has three diodes?  Is they way they're arranged considered assymetrical?  Also, I know I could apply the same concept above, but I don't think I want three toggles.  Do I just put D1 and D2 on toggles and leave D3? Should I jumper D3, etc? Suggestions please.

Q3: When brian says solder drain and gate together of tranny, does that mean use those two as one pole and the source as the other pole?

Q4: I will try some of the suggestions listed on the link above for clippers.  Could someone tell me which are silicon, germanium, mosfet, jfet, etc?

Thanks!
