Build Reports / First Serendipity
April 16, 2011, 02:24:01 PM
Here's my first Serendipity build with the AD712.  Fired up first time although I had to fix a grounding issue right away.  When I make a mistake, its always the wiring...lol.  For some reason, once I grounded the output jack it stopped buzzing (even though I grounded the input according to the diagram)  Color is Sparkle Red from PPP with white LED. (sorry about the poor quality pics, I used the camera on my old phone which was not good)   Sounds great, love the smooth quality it has-cool pedal.  Built this for a friend of mine, now gotta build one for myself  ;D

Great Build! How do you go about getting PPP to drill the holes in those certain places like they did for you. I want to do that when I order my enclosure for my Aristocrat from PPP

Steve is right about PPP.  However, I drilled the holes myself.  I used the template provided in the build docs and copy pasted them into Word, where I changed the size to fit the actual size of my enclosure (not perfect but I was able to get it pretty close, within 1/16"-1/32").  You can see the size in inches by clicking on "format".  I printed it off and used the holes that I wanted and measured for the ones that weren't on the template.  I taped the paper template to a wood template and drilled the holes.  Now I have a durable template and drilling will be quick anytime I want that layout.  Do the setup work once if ya know what i mean ;)

Build Reports / Re: Sunking 1590B with room for battery

yeah, it's more greenish than blueish.  It still looks nice but I was a little disappointed in the color mostly because it was a lot darker than it looked and the metallic flakes that add sparkle are a lot smaller and less noticeable than what's pictured on the website

Build Reports / Sunking 1590B with room for battery
February 03, 2011, 08:16:37 PM
Here's my first madbean build.  It was a super tight squeeze to get everything to fit in the 1590B but i was determined and eventually got it all to fit.  I won't be trying it again though, since it was such a huge pain.  I wouldn't have bothered with space for a battery since i never used them but it was for a friend and i wanted to leave him the option.  My next sunking will probably be a 125 size if I want room for a battery.  Fired up the first time.  Only problem I encountered was to replace the "cpa" version chip with the "scpa" version to get rid of the whine.  I tried a bunch of diodes and prefered the bat41's although the differences were minor to my ears.  Sounds great...now to find time to build one for myself ;)
First pic is a little blurry but I didn't realize it until I had already given it to my friend, but you get the idea.  Color is from PPP -gloss black/aqua illusion.

Build Reports / Aristocrat
February 03, 2011, 07:51:03 PM
Here's my finished Aristocrat that I built for my brother in law.  Thanks to those who helped me fix my grounding issue.  I probably won't be using the 3PDT wiring boards anymore since they didn't really save me any time.  The enclosure is from Pedal Parts Plus painted in gloss black/cherry.  I like the color of the KOT so I figured I'd do something similar.  It's hard to tell from the pic but the LED's are white and ultra violet.  I used a 250k gain pot for the right side (UV led), changed cap value for C1/C12 as per madbean's suggestion, and subbed 1n914's for the ma856's.  It sounds great!  I had a chance to compare my Aristocrat with a KOT that a session guitarist/producer friend of mine has and he liked mine a hair better.  Thanks for the great build!

Thanks, that's clear enough.  I seem to have everything working well now  ;)

Guess i should have been more clear.
Do I ground the output jack?
When I do, the unit does not shut off when using a battery and unplugging the input
#41
I've noticed that when the output is Not grounded and I unplug the input cable, the pedal Does shut off.  What's up with that?
#42
grounded the input jack and it fixed the buzz.
Usually the output is grounded too, right?  When I ground it, turn the unit on and unplug the input cable, the LED's stay (using a battery for power).  Isn't everything supposed to shut off when input is unplugged to save battery life?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Sunking LED real bright

Just finished my sunking and it works great  :)  The LED is real bright though.  which pad is the resistor for the LED so i can up that value?   R27?

I followed documentation (although it's only for the single sided etched version) and remember I'm using the 3pdt boards from small bear which of course changes how the switches are wired.  I guess I'm wondering when the 3pdt board has a spot for ground, is that connected from the ground spot on the board or the jack or both?

Update:  Since unboxing my project, I get what sounds like the bybass signal with lots of hum whether the effects is engaged or disengaged.
