Definitely achieved cleanliness and easy-to-look-at guts! The Bluesbreaker circuit seems to be much more versatile than I gave it credit for being in the short time I kept a build around - the vid makes me interested again. I am way more of a builder than a player these days. Although, skill-wise, that ain't sayin' much, I do start to feel a little guilty when I think about how much time I spend tinkering vs woodshedding.

Whoah. Looking at that build wouldn't prompt anyone to think there are that many "first"s involved. Nice etch and nice build!

Did you go by Cody's/Selfdestroyer's etching tutorial?

Good work. I can see how your previous tagboard experience led you to the offboard wiring. You'll get spoiled by pcb mounts if you keep building with prefabs. 

Beat me to it ------ pcb-mounted-EVERYthing and 3PDT boards have me spoiled pretty badly. I still build on stripboard because it's pretty good for satisfying curiosity without the wait, but I'd much rather look at something I built w a pcb.

Nice work, sir and I imagine this into a Sunn would be pretty solid. 

That is sharp! I am always surprised with how much I like things I would not have picked - that green is super classy on the Exp shape and I like how it lets the wood show. I hope completing that was cathartic for you, sir - it certainly looks like a solid fiddle.

Nearing sleep, I clicked to find out if a mixer literally somehow got dropped in your lap and if you were hurt....that one would do it.

Super slick inside and out! I would not have thought about the pots if you didn't mention it - or maybe I woulda guessed you just made the legs streeetch to make it work - nice job on that part, too!

I need to locate/open the ol' wallet for some different chips to try - I do not have an original to compare to, but every time I see a PB thread, I make sure to note it ended my chorus search.

Love seeing the partnership & I wouldn't blame anybody for not wanting to build one haha.

I can never figure out how to handle the corners. I'm also bad at gift wrapping.

I'm pretty bad at gift wrapping. I've done ok with fabric coverings, but I do avoid stuff like that CF above that would require you get the pattern straight. 

 

I have not played with tweed, but other (regular ol' cotton-ish) stuff is easy to work with and if you TOTALLY flub it up, it's easy to rip off and start over. I use mod podge on top of thinner fabrics and then clear coat. Last time I used the brush on Min Wax clear and was WAY happier with that method - being able to bring it inside and brush it on instead of waiting on a warm/not windy day is much more convenient - also splurging for a $5 toaster oven to save time in between coats made a big jump in ease of this method.

I am willing to give it a go w some friends who have expressed interest, but I'm a bit cautious because a lot of conversations are like, 'Yeah, I wanna build a delay/reverb thing, maybe kinda similar to a [giant Strymon unit], but I wanna add ______'

Pump the brakes, buddy.

Then I'm left thinking for the next few days if I have said something that is making people thinking I'm a circuit guru instead of a spare room hack.

The dozen or so things in building that I know to ALWAYS do or to NEVER-EVER-EVER do are direct results of this method of learning. Sure, it's not the preferable way, but it seems to "stick" more when I make the big goofs. Anybody who has had to de-solder any component with more than one lead can likely file their new skill under the "One-Trial Learning" column. This may be a bigger hesitation in my wanting to teach buddies rather than the larger projects they wanna do - I'd be tempted to try to cram all those tips/tricks I learned the hard way over years into a couple of weekends - no way I'd remember everything to tell 'em, no way they'd retain it anyway.

Good on you for sticking with it and cool end of the story to have a working unit at the end.
