Open Discussion / Oscilloscope for scope noob on a budget
February 22, 2016, 03:49:43 AM
I'm realizing it would be handy to have an oscilloscope around for testing. I'm looking on craigslist and see a few for around $100. What should I be looking for in terms of specs and abilities for a scope? I'd be using it for things pedal, amp and synth based. Rarely with synths, but should a situation arise where I might need it, I'd like to have something capable of troubleshooting any gear I come across.

There are some EZ and Tektronix ones for $100-150. I'm sure I could talk them down a bit.

Thanks.

I like this pedal but it adds a bit of noticeable noise to my signal chain. I don't mind loosing the the trails of the delay by modding the pedal for TB. I'm wondering though if the Clickless will work with the pedal. The Clickless instructions only shows how to use with Boss and Ibanez pedals.

Thanks.

Any company/shop sell PCBs for sale? Or any links to a good layout? Thanks

I have 7 germanium trannies from previous projects that didn't work or I can't remember why.

What can I built with these?

(2) - 2N404A

(2) - Hitachi 2SB77

(2) - 2N404A

(1) - only markings are on top and read: 1N 1C GD

(1) - 3AX31C

Thanks.

Looking at some of the compact loopers out there, most require a long-press of the footswitch to clear or undo a overdub.

I wanted to know if there is a way to simulate a long-press of a footswitch with a circuit so that in order to clear or undo a loop, all one has to do is just hit a footswitch attached to this circuit and said circuit takes the switch signal - NC or NO and makes it last for a duration to trigger the function in the pedal. That make sense?

I know it may be over kill as some people have no problem holding a footswitch for a few seconds to clear a loop but I usually play standing up and I'd much rather just be able to hit a footswitch to trigger the process.

My idea is that the mod would work with any pedal by just attaching an additional footswitch  - with the circuit in question -  to the main footswitch on the pedal (in parallel) and then when it comes time to clear/undo a loop, you hit the alternative footswitch and that gets processed by the circuit to simulate a long-press of the footswitch.

Any ideas about how to do this?

I'm planning on getting an Eventide Pitchfactor again - I shouldn't have sold it.

One thing I used to do was have some presets with pitch-shifted delay where I'd hit the dry note and a 5th below to come like a half note later.

What I want is to be able to stop the Pitchfactor from receiving input so when I want to play a note that doesn't have a 5th below, I can do so, and then re-engage the the pitchfactor.

1.) I don't think just quickly bypassing the pedal and then turning it back on will work because, even with the trails/feedback persisting, I don't think the delay timing will be the same as when I bypassed it and thus the whole thing will feel/sound interrupted.

2.) I can't use an EXP to control the Wet/Dry cause I'll just loose the feedback if I briefly roll the Mix down to Dry.

To clarify: what I want to be able to do is briefly stop audio from being processed by the pitchfactor so I can have previous notes that are pitch-shifted persist, while I quickly playing something that is just dry (uneffected) over those previous persisting notes.

The other option I was thinking of was a parallel circuit where my signal can by routed (via a momentary switch) either through the PF and out the PF output OR just around it so I can play uneffected notes while the PF is still on (preset engaged) and has previous notes playing.

The switching needs to be silent, I can't have little clicks or pops every time I hit the switch.

A.) Does what I want make sense?  ;D
B.) Is it possible to do this?

It doesn't seem difficult, but my concern is the silent switching.

Thank you.

I'm trying to get opinions on how it compares to the first RDD and other Belton 2 circuits.

What are you thoughts on the Deluxe? Could you possibly make a demo? There is only 2 on youtube from the same user (a poster from this forum).

Can the reverb get dark with the Tone control?

Can you make a 25k a 50k? I know you can do the opposite but I have a 12mm 25k pot I need to make into a 50k

Open Discussion / effects blender layout

I'm looking for a single loop blend circuit. Anyone have a layout? I've seen some online but I've not seen comments about them - as to how well they work.

Open Discussion / Favorite Skreddy circuits/builds?
October 17, 2014, 01:42:18 AM
I have parts on the way to build a Mayo MKIII. All the Skreddy stuff sounds awesome, and Tagboard effects has a lot of layouts on the website.

Any advice on what other circuits to build? A good companion to the MKIII?

I had heard/read before that you couldn't use inkjet waterslides with laser printers so I googled again to clarify and saw that manufactures make laser WSD. I wanted to know if anyone uses them and your experience with them?

I always used the inkjet cause my home printer is inkjet but my printer is shitty and I was never 100% satisfied with the results. I figured I could get the laser paper and just have Kinkos print them for me.

Thoughts?

I've built my own patch cords for years. Though it is, or may seem (maybe I'm an idiot) like a straight-forward process, from an assembly point of few, I've been experiencing issues with some of my patch cables lately. I'm wounding if it is shotty soldering on my part, or if the plus I'm using aren't that great to begin with and prone to failure; most of the plugs I'm using are taken from longer planet waves cables I resized, and a few others I purchases online, but I can't remember from where or the brand of the plugs. I'm pretty sure they're not Switchcraft or anything.

I've been getting cables that have the ground lift - causing that loud UNGROUNDED noise, but stops when you touch/hold the cable a certain way. I unscrew the sleeve and the solder joints appear to be OK, so Im not sure if the Tip and Sleeve are shorting somewhere I can't see, inside the plug.

I used to use those Radioshack pancake plugs but learned my lesson with those years ago.

Suggestions on what brand plugs to buy? I'd prefer not to spend a lot per plug, plus the cable I'm using is Mogami cable, cut from a long instrument cable. Not bad cable, but not the highest of quality either.

Open Discussion / Anyone seen the mover "Her?"

I just saw this today and found it extremely profound. The concept of the movie was very impactful. I think the movie broaches a lot of subjects involving human interaction and thought which the concept and futuristic aspect of the film - and thought it seems futuristic, its very poignant regarding the present.

Open Discussion / Stereo Blender? Idea help
June 19, 2014, 01:41:35 AM
I have a Digitech Jamman Stereo and I've been using it in Mono, and plan on continuing to do so, but I had an idea to kind of "double" the loops and keep them synced and separated by building a box that would allow me to choose the Input/Output (L/R) I'm using and thus recording into that portion of the circuit.

What would be even cooler is to make a Blend control so I could fade one loop out by panning to the other.

What I'd like is a box that takes my single mono output (from my tremolo pedal) and then somehow splits the signal into Left and Right.

The box would have L and R IN/OUT that would go to the Jamman. I guess the circuit would almost be like a true-bypass looper switcher in a sense.

I need the blend control as mentioned, and but also a way to cut the Input going into the Jamman; the blend would be used to control the output but the Jamman, but I need a way to disable each input, independently, so audio isn't recorded to the both L and R parts of the looper, but just whichever I choose.

Any pointers on a circuit I can elaborate on? I imagine I'll need to make something that is an active circuit? - slitting my Guitar's output into stereo.

I hope my description makes sense.

I'm building a pitch pirate type clone and I'm wondering which photocell I should get. I'm ordering from small bear.

Any suggestions?

Open Discussion / good polyfilm cap sources?
April 09, 2014, 04:35:41 AM
I love Tayda for their great prices, but I'm not a fan of their cap offerings - at least the non-polar polyfilm. I've usually got the grey box ones but whenever I need to order from small bear I always end up getting the polyfilm Panasonic caps.

Are there any source stores that offering good quality polyfilm caps for prices less than small bear? more in the Tayda price range, or a little more.

I'm used Smallbear and Tayda, primarily. I've used Mouser too but their website is always overwhelming for me, and I've made many mistakes in the past, ordering a part I thought was what I wanted only to find it wasn't. User error, yes.

Tech Help - Projects Page / 2 in 1 wiring question.
April 03, 2014, 05:10:34 AM
I have two circuits in one enclosure, with an In/Out jack.

My question is: do I wire the second circuit's footswitch the same as the first? Particularly regarding the grounded input? Since the second circuit is receiving its Input from the first circuits out/switch... I'm using the mad bean wiring diagram...
