General Questions / 14mm lighted pots.
July 02, 2023, 06:45:24 PM
So can these be used to light several pots or is it just for one?

If so how does the wiring work from one pot to the next?

Wow, blast from the past, Farndurk. Man I read some threads on him and whew it was nasty. Dude had a great idea and I loved the look of his pedals. I think they sounded great by others accounts but did he dig a hole for himself.

Hey Peak, hope you are progressing. I've not had back surgery but in my profession, work comp related, I've paid for hundreds, talked to many people nurses included, read hundreds of MRI's including my own, read many articles etc... I guess I have second hand experience other than my own 30 year history of back pain. Anyone with 1 herniated disc, assuming said herniation is pressing on the spinal cord, rarely gets out of it without some kind of back surgery. Four? Holy moly dude no question you had no choice.

That xray you show, man that disc came out to party as that is one pretty good indentation. Did you get a fusion? How many levels and what levels?

If you don't care to travel down that historical path, no problem. I totally understand. Had I been on here last year I certainly would have chimed in.

Hey John,

All good, no worries. I am open about the whole thing. First and foremost, I am doing great. I did not have a fusion yet but if L4/L5 herniates again, I will definitely have to have a fusion. The first surgery was a laminectomy & discectomy where they cut some of the spinal bone so they can get to the protruded disc. Then they cut the disc. Since the same disc reherniated again right after surgery, they were able to go back in and just do the discectomy since the opening in the bone was already done.

I'm a little over three months out and doing pretty well. I still get some sciatica tingles in my leg when I am laying down but its not too big of a deal. My back starts to ache when I do too much around the house but thats expected. I think my L5/S1 causes some of that as well. Hoping with proper back mechanics and really listening to my spine, I can avoid too much more deterioration of my back. If I am being honest, with all the research I have done on it, my confidence is low that this is over. I think for anyone that has gone through this before, even after surgery when you are feeling great, the anxiety of it happening again is absolutely killer.

I'm keeping weight down, don't smoke/drink, and trying to be active as can be without being stupid (deadlifts...ha!). I also try to limit my sitting as much as humanly possible.

Hey Justin. Man 3 months out for that kind of surgery is still the incubation stage of recovery as you know after researching. It does sound like you are finally going in the right direction. The fusion thing is really a crap shoot on to get or not to get it for low back. Standard for neck surgery the past 20+ years. I've had back pain daily for decades but in my case the annulus is herniated at L4-5 but the disc hasn't come out to play. I dread the day it does. I have bulges at all the other levels. But as you know you have to keep going and be smart, which I probably have not been over the years with the projects I've taken on.

You mention deadlifts. Do you lift? I quit doing those many years ago due to back issues. I work around it.

Your fear of this not being over is understandable but I'll say this knowing you had surgery times two and I have not. There is what I call a base line pain that I always settle into whenever I tweak it. I accept it for what it is and roll on. I don't let it get me down the best I can. If all goes perfect you will likely have some pain that will just be part of your day ( I mean pain free would be killer but I'm a realist). Keep pushing and do what you can. Out of all the injuries I've had/have the back is the most squirrely thing I've dealt with. So damn unpredictable. Heck the doctors really have a hard time trying to explain exactly what is causing what at times.

Anyway, I wish you well. I know it is tough.

Big Cros fan. Total douche of a guy. I mean when you make Nash not want to talk to you anymore you are the top of the heap of losers of a human being as Nash is one of the nicest guys ever. But, whew what a voice. I too am shocked he made it this long. I think if he made it past 50 he was on borrowed time knowing his history.

I for one still listen to CSN and of course Y but only the older stuff and with Young the older stuff is the newer stuff with his releases.

I bought an SG for my brother-in-law once so I guess I can chime in.

I'm still building. It runs in real large peaks and valleys but I still enjoy it. My wife can't figure out to save her life why I still build pedals. Can't say I blame her. But I wonder why she keeps buying new yoga pants she doesn't need so I guess we are even  8) When I retire, in 3 or so years, I'll probably go to building a bunch of amps I don't need too. I've got this notion to volunteer for free at some luthier shop somewhere to learn to build an acoustic. I'll string guitars, clean the place etc.. and they can show me how to build. That probably won't happen but it is a notion I have.

I grew up in Huntington Beach but that was 70's. Moved with the parental units in 1980 to Nashville. I'm told CA has changed since the 70s  :o

You're going from a 6 month winter to...well.....no winter really.

Mauman, very much appreciated that you took some time out. You are right of course on the mV for the higher V.

I got her working. To my ears having Q2 right under 7V beefs it up and slightly smooths out any mudiness. Less than that and it's too thin for me but it's all about preference.

But I guess it's a pedal you to pretty much dime out or at least that is how it is for me.

Again thanks for giving me a hand.

You have 121V at basis of transistor? Try to measure it again. Ground probe of multimeter at ground at power plates, and hot probe at points you need to measure. And measure even ground at the desk, if it is connected with ground of power supply.

Zerro, what do you mean put the ground at the power plate?

I've measued this thing multiple times. Right now it reads 118v. Same way i've always done pedals. Put the ground to the enclosure. Of the 6 test points of the two transistors 5 are spot on within range of what the BOM suggests and then there is this odd ball. I didn't know it was possible to generate that voltage in this pedal.

I'm fine with just getting another board and doing a new one but I might end up with the same issue. Bad transformer maybe? I believe the pin orientation is correct though or the other test points would be off too I would think.

Bringing this back up. So I still can't figure out this wonky voltage reading but now the pedal doesn't work or rather it does, just no fuzz. I guess my first thought is to confirm with someone other than myself the transformer is in the proper position. From everything I've researched it is. Anyone with any thoughts?

My guess is your foot switch failed.  Try jumping the pins on the 3PDT dedicated to the LED and see if the LED works then.

I've over heated a few 3PDTs before and lost the function of only one column on the switch.

I was thinking this as well. I may just order a new switch pad .

Jimi it's the footswitch pad that something is wrong at least I think so.

Got distracted for a bit.

Does anyone have a guess as to what the ground lug is on this switch pad? I've tried to figure it out but can't be sure. This LED thing has me stumped.

General Questions / LED question - Horizon
July 12, 2021, 06:21:38 AM
I guess if you build enough pedals you run into firsts. So I built up the Horizon, amazing pedal love it, and used it for a few months. Then one day the LED doesn't come on. The pedal still works. I think no biggie, bum LED so I swap it out. Nothing. So I figure let me pull it off board and wire directly to jack. No go but here is my question.

Can I ground the LED to any ground point? I thought I could. Typically I don't use 4PDT boards and wire the LED's with the ground attached to the 3PDT. But since this build uses the 3PDT board I can't do that. So, I just wired it to my main ground point at the input jack with the 9v anode directly to the DC jack like normal.

Anyone have any troubleshooting thoughts? Did any of this make sense?  :)
