Open Discussion / Re: The perfect Wah

Well it is certainly not quite everything you want, but I built a Wiener Wah with the trannies and mods listed in this thread, and it is leagues and bounds above any other wah I have tried:  http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=4415.0

Very cool (nothing useful to add sorry).

Open Discussion / Re: Any good Audiobooks?
February 25, 2015, 05:39:51 PM
Love audiobooks, for me it is when I am biking to work.  Stuff I have listened to recently and loved:

- Snow crash - Neil Stephenson. Possibly the best sci fi ever written.
- Neuromancer - William Gibson, also increasable sci fi.
- Downloaded a HUGE collection of Discworld (Terry Pratchett) audio books, must be 20 of them.

My absolute fave is the Harry Potter series. Stephen Fry's narration and character voices were just so freaking good.

Thanks so much Joe!!  Just waiting to hear by from the guy i am fixing it for :)

Thanks chordball and dave, I will ask Joe, but sounds like the guy I am fixing it for is just going to go with a 100k to make it easy.

Open Discussion / Trying to find a 50kB wah pot, help!
February 10, 2015, 10:18:41 PM
Trying to find a 50kB (or ICAR) way pot to fix a modded Vox 847 Wah (not my mods), but having no luck at all.  I found this one on Small Bear http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/speed-pot-dunlop-rotovibe-ecb224/ but cant tell if its a A or B taper, and its not sealed.

I looked at smallbear, mammoth, ebay, pedal parts plus, but no luck.  Anyone have any ideas? As best I can tell my only other option is to go to a 100k, which might be better anyways as then I can get a good sealed Hot Potz with ICAR taper etc.

I had at one point posted some stuff I got out of a DIY Bible special edition of one of the guitar magazines, that included a Re-Amp box and a couple of other utility boxes (Pickup simulator, and something else). I have to run or would dig it up, but look through my post history. If you dont find it I will dig it up tonight when I get home.

Open Discussion / Re: High output current charge pumps?
January 30, 2015, 06:31:23 PM
Thank you Mike, thats a great find (although they are actually $21, the $16 price is if you buy 500+).  So a bitimpractical in terms of cost and current comsumption, but definitely possible. Given a one spot puts out like 1700mA, it sounds like it could go on a daisy chain tap and still have lots of current left over.  Or it could definitely be used with one of the beefier power bricks like a Gig Rig Generator, a Yankee PS-M2 (which already outputs 15v) or a Power Pad II.  Hmmmmmmm

Open Discussion / High output current charge pumps?
January 29, 2015, 11:59:09 PM
I have been doing some searching but am seeming to get nowhere, and am going crosseyed from reading data sheets at the end of the work day.

Is it possible and practical to build a charge pump that:
- outputs 15v
- Can provide 400-500 mA output current. (looked through all the roadrage stuff, LT1054 puts out the highest current at 100mA)
- Takes a 9V input.  Also current consumption is key here, no point in even doing it if its going to pull like 2 full amps or something.

The idea is, for a pedal like a Radial Tonebone which takes 15v and claims to pull 400mA, to be able to build a little charge pump in a box to put between the 9v output of say a 1-spot or other power brick and the Tonebone.

Am I crazy?

DJ025 is a 1N270 work-alike/equivalent part.

Fantastic, thanks Jon, really appreciate it!

Can anyone help me identify these diodes. Got them ages ago, used them in a Klone, and I am pretty sure they are either 1n270 or 1n34a.  They are marked DJ 025 T.

The torque clutch seems like a cool idea.

Ya, would love to get a look at how that works. Just read over that data sheet, and it shows a current draw of 900uA (microamps, would be 0.9 mA), can that be right?

Edit: I guess it must be right, just looked up some other Crybabys and they are similar (Crybaby GCB-95 is 2mA, Crybaby classic GCB-95F is only 0.43 mA). Just seemed crazy low to me.

Just saw this.  Would kill to get my hands on a couple of the enclosures used, so much cool stuff could be built.

Open Discussion / Re: SPDT on/on switch polarity?
January 19, 2015, 05:23:09 PM
No, there is no polarity on a SPDT (or any other mechanical switch).  I think that one has a square pad as it links to the square pad of the LED clippers.
