Yep. A remote control car was my favourite toy around that age.

If you want to encourage his creative / Technical side and buddy up to him you could buy him a Radio controlled car that needed building up with your help ....like my Tamiya Beetle of old.  Me and my dad spent all of xmas day building that bad boy up  <sigh>

The shop, as an aside, was Music Ground in Doncaster. Which later moved to Leeds, then London, where the owners got arrested for being complicit in selling stolen guitars. They even seemed like a slightly dodgy bunch back in their Donny days  !

My order of preference would be  Viper > Cayman > Muscort > Mustang    .. That mustang does nothing for me
