Open Discussion / questions about buffers.
December 19, 2011, 09:58:37 PM
I'm really curious as to how these work. I can't seem to find any real good info other that (beavis audio). I really want to build somthing with a buffer in it but I'm just not really sure what I'm talking about lol. I don't want to build just a buffer, I would like to use it as a bypass and I just can't figure out how to do it once I build it. (the TL071 buffer) is there a way to wire it to the switch? Would it toggle between the effect and the buffer? Any kind of info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Open Discussion / road rage on a switch?
December 19, 2011, 12:12:03 PM
would this be a dumb idea? I find myself putting everything on a switch just bc I like to... Would this be of use on, say, a compressor or ego driver? Or do you think i d just end up using 18v all the time? Also where is a good place to but the IC? Couldn't find it at smallbear. And I know radio shack would be just too convenient.

Open Discussion / Beyond aggravated. Please read

Ok, so I finished the ego driver. I know I've posted a few times. I'm sorry if it's getting annoying. Today I took this pedal to my local music store to show it off and.... Buzzzzz. The things I did different on this pedal.
1. Used powder coated box
2.used Metal 2.1 ac adapter
3. Used the other blue 3pdt with pcb mounts and small pcb for switch.

anyway it's working with my adapter but not theirs. When I wiggle the ac plug it pop and cracks really loud. Also it will not power the next pedal in the daisy chain. When I switch it on and off it gives a magnified true bypass pop. Please o please just tell me it's somthing idiotic. I've tought myself how to build pedals.. Not very professional but I  thought I did a beautiful job :/.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Ego driver won't run 12v??
December 13, 2011, 07:38:13 AM
I finished my ego and I'm very pleased.. Although my lm4562ha didn't work :( but it still sounds pretty good. I wish I could get a little more gain out of it. I used the 500k pot. Also it won't run 12v? The wallwort I have is apiece of  crap though. Could that be the reason? It's the one from wally world that you  can select up to 12v.. Pretty cheap. Anywho. I've got a road rage on the way.

Open Discussion / diy rack mount effect
December 09, 2011, 05:13:51 PM
Hi, I've been sitting in my big truck for 5 hrs and started daydreamin and came across the rack mount R2DU of beavis'. I can't find much more info on building rack mount effects. I would love to build some type of ultimite range distortion rack to go in the effects loop. Anyone got any leads or info I could start with?

Mods / Slow loris mosfet/Ge mod
December 01, 2011, 02:58:45 PM
Has anyone tried/ or know what the difference would be if I used 1 or 2 Ge diodes in the series with my mosfet(irf520) clippers? Right now I only have one Ge in there for an asym style. Curious what it would sound like with 2. Also I put the Ge in with the source. I did the right?? I hope.. Sounds a little crunchier than my proco with only mosfets.

General Questions / Making the transistion
November 29, 2011, 07:40:27 AM
I would like to attempt to make a circuit on a perfboard. I've only used premade boards so far but had pretty good success. I'm not talking about etching yet, just simple twist leads under the board style. Got any pointers? What's the best way to lay out a circuit from schem?

General Questions / question about mosfets
November 28, 2011, 08:53:08 AM
hi. I love using mosfets (520s) as clippers in circuits like the rat, muffs etc. It gives it such a smooths fuzziness I like. Anyway my latest pedal I've built I wanted to squeeze in a tiny enclosure and was wondering that if I drilled a couple holes and mounted the mosfets on the enclosure would it short the circuit? Or if it does would it work bc clippers ground anyway? I'm pretty new to this and just like learning.. Anyway.. Would this work? Thanks in advance!

Open Discussion / Slow loris issue.
November 22, 2011, 07:25:11 PM
hi all. I finished the slow loris today. I'm actually a lil disappointed in the result. It works fine and all buts it's so trebly. And lacks gain. And I have issues with all rats bc of my active pickups. I'm thinking that it cuts out my low end resulting in a crackling sort of sound when I get to chopping. Is there a value I can change some where to help with this? I also put germaniums in place of the led clipping and it sounds so dull. I'm wondering if I have a bad cap in the circuit or somthing. But.. It's not a defect. I think it's just a matter of taste. But if I could mod it to handle a little more low end that'd be great. I used the 33pf silver mica and LM308n

Open Discussion / Madbean changed my life
November 22, 2011, 06:55:43 AM
Hi all. I'm 28 yrs old. Married truck drivier, long time guitar player. I always tend to get obsessed with things. (used to be drugs, clean for over a year now). When I stoped all that crap I picked my guitar back up and really  dove in. I really enjoyed the whole FX deal and had the crazy idea of building my own. I started with BYOC (awesome for beginners) not knowing jack about electronics. Since then I've completed a few byocs and found madbean. This pushed me to new levels and I really enjoy these pcbs. I've completed the mudbunny and cupcake and debuging the slow loris. The cupcake is amazing it whoops all of my ross style comps (IMO) my active picks distort the ross to much but the cupcake holds strong. I guess my point is appreciation to madbean for making these and everyone in the forums who quickly and willingly help out at anytime of the day. Thanks again!

Open Discussion / mudbunny mod
November 17, 2011, 06:40:53 AM
I have built the mudbunny with green russian specs + mosfet. Would it work to put all 3 jumpered resisters from the creamy dreamer spec on a 3pdt switch? Would that work the same as a creamy dreamer mod? I would wire it as 3 spdt in one correct? Thanks

Mods / high volt caps
October 24, 2011, 07:28:15 AM
hi. This is going to be my first creation from scratch. I'm going for the green russian big muff clone. I tried to order the most high end parts from small bear. (NOT EASY) I got some of those high voltage caps (yellow looks like dipped in rubber.) can I use these in the circuit or do I need ceramix?
