Good job Jimi!
I have family members that did the same and it amazes me the strength it takes to do it.

General Questions / Re: probably a dumb question

Thanks!

I think mremic01's answer is the one I was looking for.

I know I should know better than to think there is some magical substance (besides unicorn tears and card tables of course) but that thread and then someone here (selfdestroyer maybe..) saying that he was upgrading to more premium parts, grumblings aobut Tayda, etc.;  well.. it just got me wondering.

Thanks for the reply's and reality check.

Oh man.  Seeing iommie in that clip reminded me of something I wanted to research.
"What pickups were in his SG back then?"

They don't look like p90's but they don't look like humbuckers either.

Sorry for the hijack, pedal does sound very cool.

I know I'm late to the dance on this OD but this:

The gearmandude demo did it for me.

General Questions / probably a dumb question
September 07, 2014, 09:27:26 PM
So I have a chimera board I was getting ready to order parts for when I wandered upon a TGP very long thread about the Mythical Overdrive and how it was the best of the clones.  18 pages in and all I could sort of gather was that the builder used "quality parts" .

So, before I order parts, anyone know what quality parts might mean/be to achieve this best of the clones?  I'd like to build a cool clone too :)

Or maybe to ask this another way.. which parts should I maybe order multiples of to get close to x value ?

Thanks!

Koko

PS> I mean no disrespect to ComfortPlayer, I'm just curious and would like to learn the difference in parts mfgr's etc.

General Questions / Re: Toecutter and Transistor Pinout
September 04, 2014, 02:32:27 PM
Thanks Guys!

It took my wife to snap me out of not seeing the pinout correctly. I'm sure there is some mental jargon to describe it but I just kept seeing it wrong when would try to flip from looking at the bottom and inserting into the socket.  Weird.. and days of it happening.

Also having the base not in the center really messed with me when I was looking at the pcb layout I kept thinking.."this is all messed up, why is he running the input to the collector".  I think I've been at work too long lately  ;D

I'm going to have to do a demo of this one, if your into doom playing this will definitely make you feel sad and depressed, it's really sludge in a box.

Thanks again!

I. Want. One!  :'(

I love Catalinbread stuff. They're one of the few boutique pedal companies I'm willing to fork out money for. Although building them is way cooler. Here's to hoping it will get traced soon.

I know what you mean; building clones of designs is definitely fun and all, but I think sometimes it is worth putting back in if you enjoy companies work/designs.

The cool/good companies (which Catalinbread are one off) are worth supporting IMO. Especially seeing as they are a small business, with their own unique designs hand built in their own country.

I've bought quite a few Catalinbread pedals, and I'll most likely be buying this one as well (it sounds awesome).

I totally agree with you on this, it's fun and all but I still buy pedals (even bought one that I've built already).

+1 on Catalinbread being a cool/good company

General Questions / Toecutter and Transistor Pinout
September 03, 2014, 11:25:03 PM
Hey Guys,

I have 2 questions related to the Toecutter circuit and it's transistors.
For reference: http://apocalypseaudio.blogspot.com/2010/02/toecutter-v1-revc-pcb-layout.html

Edit:  forget question 1, I must be just tired.  My head didn't flip from bottom to top view correctly.

First, if anyone can read the image below... can you please tell me the pinout.
I've tried google translate and Bevis Audio's reference but, I think I'd feel better just asking because I seem to only get it to work if they are in backwards from my 2 references.
It's supposed to be a GT313A transistor, this came with them.

Next Question.
Has anyone here built the Toecutter circuit?

Mine works but I'm not sure if it's correct, I absolutely cannot have the guitar's volume maxed (single coil or humbuckers).  If I do then the circuit (or transistors) seem to overload and shut off for about a 1/2 second when you hit the strings.   Is this behavior correct?  I've tried different GT313's and even built a second pcb but same results (which is also why I'm wondering if I have the pinout wrong).
Controls work as described by others and as long as I don't dime the guitar's volume it does sound very doom and heavy.

Thanks!

Although a Brit talking Orange Amps always puts me in mind of John Chambers. His website is truly fascination (especially the "Work Done" section.)
I Did a google search for John Chambers out of curiosity but I'm not finding anything that seems related.. what website is this?

Anyway, Here is my little one trick pony ;)
