Open Discussion / Re: Clear Coat vs. Envirotex
June 16, 2014, 08:11:12 PM
In many ways, it's a lot easier to do.  It takes one coat vs multiple coats.  Some folks like the thicker finish of it as well.

While clearcoat is easier to mess up (it is for me) both look very good when done right.  Clear can look more refined as well, if enough time is put into it.

I bought my daughter a Jay Turser 3/4 size acoustic guitar.  The tuners are MUCH better than the toy piece of junk she had before that.

Thirded.  Fantastic and well thought out.

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Brian.

I've tried filing, milling and grinding them.  In the end, I went back to filing, which is the biggest PITA.

I actually melted the inside of a 9mm pot with grinding.  That took some talent.

Another great build, Billy!

For the side knobs, I agree about the length.  What I do is this:

1.)  Use small skirtless MXR knobs, which are shorter than most knobs.

2.)  I take an 1/4 End Mill bit and I cut the shaft well deeper in the knob.  I go as far as I can without going through the top of the knob.

3.)  I then take a metal file to shorten the height of the knob shafts.  When you get them to the right length, it helps to break the edges with the file.

The process is a bit of a PITA, but it shortens the knobs which looks better and makes the knobs a bit less likely to get damaged in use.

Oh my, these graphics are really cool and the inside is gorgeous

How do you do your graphics? Screenprint, Waterslide, Adhesive Decal, ....?

These were done with the UV printing process at Pedal Parts Plus.  I've used them a few times and been mostly impressed.  I'm still tweaking the artwork to work best with their process.

I think this may be the first time Hieronymus Bosch has appeared on a pedal here. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with next.

Everybody thinks it's Bosch.  And I mean every single person who knows who Bosch is says that.

It's actually a painter named Pieter Bruegel.

I appreciate Bosch's work, so he will appear on a pedal at some point.  I've long wanted to do a large multi-build with the Garden of Earthly Delights on it.

Is that a 125B or a 1590B?

It's a 125B.  For some reason, I rarely ever use 1590B, although it could probably fit in one.

I actually somewhat regret not putting it in a 1590BB.  Totally unnecessary, but more room for the artwork with a bigger box.

This is a collaborative effort between me, Forrest and Brian.

We are going to do a side pedal gig called 424 Studios that is going to do circuitboards and small runs of pedals that we feel like doing.  This a beer money type operation, so there won't be a formal business plan or anything like that.  It's the antithesis of what we are working on for Function f(x).  It'll also end being a central repository for the PCBs that Forrest and I release.  It won't affect Madbean Pedals in any way.

Basically, we are going to do things that are fun and often sort of oddball.

The first one is a take on a silicon Fuzz Rite.  We added a couple of toggle switches to change between the correct input and output caps and other values that make it a bit more usable (in our opinion).  In fact, we are calling the settings "Vintage/Useful."

The detail of the artwork gets lost a bit in the JPEG compression, but here are pics anyway:

The final pedals won't have all of the silly socketing, but I was still playing around with values when I built this.

That etch is magnificent.  One of the best you've done (and you've done some great ones).

Very cool.  I'd play that, too.

Trading pedals for gear is great.  Some parts, some sweat equity and you can get some nice gear.

Where are the enclosures shipping to?  If UPS is the shipper, the destination zip code makes a significant difference.

Looks like they are in Lousiana and I am in Texas.....so at least the shipping will probably be like 1 day or so.

So I will just imagine that I am paying next day air fees  :P

Yeah, and I think Jon is farther away, so it's really odd that his shipping estimate would be lower.
