It's an interesting (and pretty cool) idea, but the raw tips are about $35 each.  By the time you bought everything, you are probably in for about $75, which is pretty cheap for a good soldering station.  The only questions are how well it works and how reliable it is.

But you also don't need this for doing SMT work.  You can get a really fine point tip for a normal soldering station and it works fine.  My Weller station isn't cheap, but isn't not the RT series and it works for SMT just fine.

Picked up a couple Pearl Jam tickets for Oct 3rd in St. Louis. Best part is the seats are near side-stage lower-bowl. Fantastic. Going to surprise the wifey tonight.

I seen these guys 20 years ago in the early 90's grunge-craze. I was young and in a chemically-induced stupor  ;). I am going to actually enjoy the music this time.

I may have been at the same show.  Was it Lollapalooza at Alpine Valley?

Build Reports / Year of the Rat
May 30, 2014, 05:46:14 PM
This is the second Rat build I've done but the first in a mini.  It's actually for the same guy I built one for previously.  This was tighter than expected as I had to wire the clipper switching on a piece of vero and mount it to the underside of the PCB.  Not a whole lot of vertical space with everything packed in there.

The enclosure has quite a few dents and impressions in it.  I don't know what the hell went on with this one, but that's how it was when I got it.  It was my last black mini box so my buddy said it was cool to use it.

As far as the sound, it still sounds like a Rat.

That's a beauty.

One of these days I will probably grab a PRS.  I'd really like a Spruce top Hollowbody I.

BTW, Pickdropper, I'm the one who bought the Shoot the Moon from you last night on BYOC.

Ah, cool.

Can you shoot me your address?  I've been having trouble getting to BYOC.

Are you looking to sell or trade it?

Ooo, that is nice :) Nicer than mine anyway (but then, I was going for a rough-as-guts look.)

How are the two pickups? Classic Plus'es? I'm finding that my single filtertron has forced me to learn wth the tone knob is for. If you do, then it's very flexible.

They are actually great.  There is no tone control, but there is a treble bleed cap switch in the volume control.

I'm going to play with it as is for a bit.  If I find I need a tone pot, I won't have any issue drilling a hole and adding it.

pretty.  and a flying V distressing job on the outside.  Mine's working its way to the top of the pile.

I noticed that, too.  It's a cool look.

Great job, Rej.

Very nice.  I dig a good phaser.

The Belle Epoch is cool, but I think I prefer the MultiPlex.  To be fair, I probably should've played it longer.

I borrowed CJ's Belle Epoch before he sold it.  I thought it was a nice sounding delay, but it didn't wow me.

Nice!

And since it's got the company name on the headstock, it's a business expense!  ;D

Since there wasn't any hard currency exchanged, that might prove difficult.   :-)

New Partscaster Day!

This is a Cabronita build made up of parts received in trade for builds I've done.  I'm finding that, if you know enough musicians, pedals can be used as currency, much like cigarettes in prison.

The parts on here are rather nice.  It's made up of:

- Warmoth body with Glendale saddle (not sure about the bridge plate)
- TV Jones pickups
- WD Music Neck
- Gotoh locking Kluson style tuners

Big thanks to Scootercaster, who provided the neck, tuners and awesome headstock waterslide.

As for the guitar, it plays nicely.  The neck is very flat (12" radius), very wide 11/16 and a reasonably deep C shape. Good thing I have large hands.  The satin finish on the neck is particularly nice and fast.

So far, I am really digging the TV Jones pickups.  For clean playing, I really like the neck.  I am surprised at how great the bridge sounds dirty, even at higher gain settings.

Love that etch.  The rotary is a nice touch as well.
