Actually, a 1M resistor in buffered bypass does seem to darken the tone somewhat.  I accidentally put it on the first layout of the 1590a Klon boards I did.  I think Cleggy was the one that caught it.  I was just so used to putting a pull down there.....

After reading the build doc, I should have ordered more than one Sunking (it's this new mantra I'm trying out - I don't need to build three variants of every circuit.  Clearly it's a misguided decision on my part, and I will have to change it).

It's also easily the funniest build doc I've ever read.  Well done.

It's a great build doc, but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a part number for the card table on the BOM.

That's really cool, Jimi.  A poor engineering student gets a much needed DMM.  Thumbs up.

This is awesome, Jimi.  Your decals are getting more refined with each build.

Very cool build and nice report, Jon.  I have a populated board here, I may have to give the sweep control a try.

Btw, on my build, mine never sounded balanced until I changed all the 1n caps in the phaser stage to 4n7.  Now it sounds good (to me) in both 5 and 6 stage mode.  I even went back and changed them on my Andromeda 2 build (wasn't fond of opening that one up again).

Smallbear #24 Prebond - Really easy to work with and nice quality. I won't use anything else now.

Andrew.

Seconded. This is my favorite wire.

Thirded.  I wish they hadn't gone to a thicker jacket, but it's still my preferred wire.

Dunno how I missed this. That's slick as all get out. I think we need a new shot of your 1590 board.  :o

Here you go, Jason.  It's the board as it stands today.  It could be different tomorrow.

Open Discussion / Re: Mounted Pots vs Wired Pots....

I love the simplicity of PCB mount pots and will use them if their location fits where I want the controls to go.

If I want a different layout, I just wire them off-board; problem solved.  With some things.

If I am doing a board layout for 1590a, I don't bother with board mount pots as I can't use them.  I'd rather save the board real estate.  On anything larger than that, I nearly always put board mount pots.

-390nF 50V 5% poly caps for only 15c. Why is this notable? Because they're something like $1 each at Mouser and rare everywhere else.

You can actually get Panasonic 390nF 50v 5% caps from Mouser for 17.5 cents if you buy 10 and 11.8 cents if you buy 100.

Oh, you're right. I just paid 17.5c each for the ones in my last order. I think it took a long time to find the right ones, though.

Yeah, I prefer the JL suffix ones because they are bulk and don't have crimped leads (which are a pain with caps).  For most Panasonics, the JL3 and JL5 versions also work well, but are on tape and reel.  I can't remember if either of those have crimped leads.  There are often other JLx suffix variants that work. but one needs to check the specs.

I need to pick up a second PT Nano.  I'm getting tired of moving things around so much on the one I've got.

Do it. I have 2, and I'm thinking about getting a third nano. For $60, they're a no brainer. Little bit of daisy chaining and you're off to the races.

Jacob

I totally agree.  It's a foregone conclusion that it will happen, it's just a matter of when I actually pull the trigger.
