I wish they provided more info.     I didn't see anything with dimensional info.  Maybe I missed it.

When you setup the recordings, I'd suggest using a Sound Level Meter to make sure everything is the same SPL; don't go by the settings on the knobs as the tolerances can vary quite a bit.

Different SPLs can result in a difference in perception by the listener.  In this case, it could also alter how the amp is being driven.

That thing is beautiful.  Dig the aesthetic.

I think it has a lot to do with how often you redo your pedalboard.  Soldering cables isn't that hard, but on my large board it would be a nightmare.  With solder less, I can reconfigure the board as desired and it isn't too bad.

Maybe I'm just really a simpleton on board setup. I do my pedals in linear order, so I haven't run across a need for a cable that that is exactly a certain length because something moved. I have "shorter" cables and "longer" cables for interconnections, but nothing that was made for specif pedal combination. I also don't try to hide the cabling or make every connection look exactly the same. That probably makes a difference. ;D

Yeah, if you aren't super OCD, it's a lot easier.  :-

I was expecting most of you to tell me to build my own cables! DIY style!

Build your own cables, DIY style.  ;D

Good cable is cheap; the connectors are relatively cheap. With minimal effort you'll make a cable that will last indefinitely. Need a different length for today's project? Spend 10 minutes and make a new one. The old one will still work and you'll find a use for it. ;)

Maybe if you change cable length mid-gig the solderless has a big advantage. I don't gig enough to know if this is common, but I think not.

I have a love/hate relationship with solderless cables.  I used George L cables all the time because they of the convenience.  They go together quickly and it's very simple to get the wire lengths exactly the way I want them.  I have had a number of them go bad over time.  I suppose it's less likely if you don't mess with your pedalboard (but who here doesn't?).

I have some Lava solderless cables, but I am not terribly impressed with the design.  With as much prep work as they require, I think soldered cables might actually be easier to build.  So, in this case, it seems to be less convenient and less reliable.  The only upside is they have a really nice, low profile right angle connector.  I haven't found the equivalent in a soldered version.  Still, I prefer the George L's to the Lava.

I have a bunch of right angle Amphenol soldered plugs that are very nice quality.  I don't even mind soldering them, I just wish they were smaller.

Based on all the info I've seen, I'm being more careful of what I get from them.   I've had no issues with their resistors though the leads are thin.   The pcb mount pots and 3362 trimmers seem to be fine.  Enclosures are fine.   Trannies I'm looking elsewhere as well as non-mainstream ICs or trannies.   Any of that stuff that is crucial to the effect im trying to source elsewhere.

Yeah, their 16 and 9mm PCB mount pots seem to be OK and I've had no issues with their 3362 trimmers and LEDs.

Unfortunately, I think it varies from batch to batch with them.  I suspect that they just buy material from their Chinese distributors and don't actually check to see if any of it is in spec.  I've gotten Ge diodes that were way out of spec and others that were in spec.  Same with JFETs.

On BYOC somebody just reported that they got bad TL072 chips, which are very easy to source and shouldn't present issues.

Looks great.  The Cap nerd in me really appreciates the Panasonic/Wima combination.

Alan, you've been working with Eagle for a while now, I think it's time for you to take on some more ambitious projects.   ;D

Looks like it's going to be beautiful madness.

The color palette and little smiling fish reminds me of Dr. Seuss.

This is really cool!  8)

Yep, it reminded me of that as well.

Now, off to read Dr. Seuss!

(great build too, Jon)

One for each of you! Quasars are extremely bright but also extremely far away (other galaxies!), and also might no longer exist since they're so old; and the sun is the most luminescent thing we can see. PM me your addresses.

Total (but interesting) thread derail.

I was a judge for a high school science show last year and one of the presentations was titled:

"Gravitationally lensed Quasars: a morphological approach."

It was an incredibly detailed presentation and the kid presenting it was able to field questions in real time.  He had certainly worked with adults on aspects of it, but he understood it.

The real kicker was that he wasn't qualified to win because he wasn't old enough: he was still in Junior High.

Someone's going to get a heck of a deal.

Agreed.  $125 is staggeringly low for a build of this quality.
