General Questions / Re: Why NOT Mammoth?
March 28, 2012, 11:47:35 AM
I almost exclusively order from mammoth now because I have found them to be rather prompt and I have never had a problem with thier parts. When they did mess up one of my orders they acredited my account with them which was very nice the next time a placed an order. They also give you a number of shipping options USPS is always the cheapest and based on weight so if you order alot of enclosures it would be high. Ive never paid anything over $10. You also have to figure that this is a rather new company and there are going to be some bumps in the raod early on. I also feel that their prices are fair compared to the competition. Shipping has never been an issue for me with them and they do have the ability to track your package and email when it has been mailed.  I have found that powder coating does take a bit more time for the order to come in.... go figure the more work that needs to be done the more time it takes. I just hope they bring back the stock of blemished enclosures.

Im thinking of doing a green russian with 1n34a's and possibly something like a 2n4444 in place of the 2n5088 if that would work to change a feew things up. I always socket the trannies so It should give me some room to play around and see what sounds i get out of it.

How would I go about that? Which op amps should i look at using?

While this is a very nice site it doesnt really answer my question about the Mayo version or the Creamy Dreamer.

General Questions / Mud Bunny / Grunt Box versions
March 22, 2012, 12:58:05 AM
So I built a Violet Rams Head and love the thing. I want to build either the green russion, mayo, or creamy dreamer. Any one know the tonal differences. I kinda want to build the GR because the name is awesome but I feel it will be far to close to the VRH. How does the mayo or CD differ? Any suggestions?

Reflowed just about everything today. Going to completely rewire the pots tomorrow and see if that does anything at all for me. Would the pots be any source of concern? Also is the second pad on the 9v pad an extra ground? Can I try subing a Tl082? Its all that I have that is close just to see if that makes a difference.

I have zero help for you since I am going through my own issues with the pork barrel right now aswell but with the Tl062. All I can say is I feel your pain, I reflowed and replaced IC and transistors all evening. Still no luck, I hope you fair better.

Ok so I have had zero time this weekend but i did get a few moments to atleast look at the area of the tl062. There are no solder bridges, Im goign to try and reflow the area. If this doesnt work could their be a faulty component in the path leading to the IC. And just a guess, Im probably getting no effect because the TL062 is the op amp which is not functioning would render the effect ....basicly noiseless, right?

Also, the fact that Im no getting anything from the lfo led, is that a concern? IF I blew out the led somehow would that create a problem like this? Does the fact that the led does not light up indicate another problem?

You can also get and assortmentfrom ratshack that has 2n3904's, 2n4404's and 2n2222's. UNder five bucks for I think 15 ( five each) or something close to that.

Thank you for the help. Ill check those tonight when I get some spare time.

Hmm ok. I have a socket in there. Do you think this is the IC itself or a component leading to it? Not sure if I remember correctly that it goes to theTL062 but i have a 1N4738 for the 8.2 zenner. Dont know if any of this helps. Just makes me wonder if I fried the Tl.
