Open Discussion / Re: The $15 3PDT (video)

I was wondering about that too. Thanks for the video. I still think optical bypass is the way to go for the price but those do seem nice! Where did you buy them?

edit: I found a few places to purchase them. Not sure why I couldn't find them before. ???

Definitely worth to get those vactrols. I just finished mine last week and it sounds superb. I used the XVive ones as well and I think they do the job quite well.

Have you tried both options? Curious because I have a phasor II pcb and I will need to decide which way to go with it.

General Questions / Re: Paint ripping off

Do you sand the enclosure, apply self-etching primer, sand between coats, and allow sufficient time to dry before applying velcro? I've never actually tried to pul off velcro after I attach it so that may happen even if you follow the right paint procedure.

Glad to help, but sorry it was a bit of bad news.

Unless I've missed something with the different versions of this circuit, the vactrols are indeed the problem. Not that the xvive ones are not good clones, but rather that you have the wrong part there altogether. You need the VTL5C3/2 instead of the regular VTL5C3.

Nice! I never could stand that modulation so I may give this a try.

F@ck yes! "A slippery slope into alpacas" is a phrase that I never thought I'd hear.

If the old board doesn't have pads for the switch, then you will need to make some trace cuts and find a way to tap those places you've identified. Can you post a picture of your LFO board?

Sorry I wasn't ignoring your post LOL.  Thanks for the suggestion.

No worries man. I figured someone out there had the doc for it. Glad it's sorted.

Slick! That 1590A is scary. I like the choral reef color scheme.

Thanks a lot! I had seen a fuzzy ;) thumbnail of that schematic but couldn't make it out.

So after a little digging, I see that this circuit is very similar to the original Vox Tone Bender with some minor value changes. Interesting bit of fuzz history to see the predecessor to the almighty fuzz face!

Quote from: chordball on August 12, 2017, 08:41:55 AMI've seen it suggested that an audio taper is better.

Better in what way? Try both. see which one you like.

The point of a booster is to boost, though. An audio taper will put unity closer to noon. What do you need unity volume for on a booster?

I see your point about the taper so I will try them both. In the meantime, where could I find some info on the effects of the volume pot value?

General Questions / Katana Boost Volume Pot Question
August 12, 2017, 08:41:55 AM
Hey everyone, I've searched but haven't found an answer so Im asking for a little help.

On the Katana boost, the stock volume pot is 250kB. I've seen it suggested that an audio taper is better. I don't have a 250kA pot but I do have a 100kA pot. Can anyone tell me what difference it would make to use a 100k volume pot vs 250k?

I'm working on a perf layout for the Katana with adjustable gain and switchable boost caps. I'll share it when I finish.

Thanks in advance for any help.
