Looks great, Cody. :)

Geofex.

The entire site. Not even joking. Almost everything you've ever wanted to know about effects is on there somewhere. If you don't understand something in one of the articles, look it up and read until you DO understand it. Then come back to the article. I still find things I forgot just in the Technology Of ... articles, not to mention all the other posts and the "hidden" pages that aren't linked on the front page. It's just shocking how expansive that site is.

AMZ's tech articles are good for the smaller parts of a circuit.

Runoff Groove for anything FET related.

Some other resources:
www.electrosmash.com
http://aquataur.hilpold.net/aquataur/

I probably have a dozen more bookmarked at home.

The other thing that worked for me early on is I'd read everything I could for a particular circuit I was building. There is a lot of great information in forum posts if you know what to look for.

Finally, learn to recognize patterns. You'll be able to break a circuit down a lot more quickly when you start thinking in "blocks" rather than individual parts.

Also, there's a thread here called the Nerd's Corner or something like that with lots of links.

Eh, I deleted my comment anyway because I was only able to test the MK4 in a store booth and not at home through an interface anyway, and I didn't want this to turn into a thread derail.

I was looking for a third mic, so I might add the Sennheiser to my list of possibles. It does sound like a really good deal for the price (and I had assumed it was another faux condenser in any case before).

I got this microphone set:
AT2020 and AT2021

The 2020 is a good microphone, period, not just for the price, and you can get a set with an instrument condenser for pretty cheap if you look (there's one for $130 right now). Vocals can be picky about microphones, but I think you'd have to start looking above $1K before you actually find something clearly better than the 2020. Heck, I use mine live now ...

Build Reports / Blue Warbler -- Ver. 2

For Scooter. :) This is actually his PIFmas present ... or rather, a backup PIFmas present, since his other present didn't work out (it was going to be a new circuit design that didn't work in the PCB stage).

I'll post the new schematic and layout soon, but the circuit has had a pretty major overhaul, including a new smaller envelope circuit with better control, a MOSFET dry path, and a depth control that actually works properly. Mine is very slightly different from Jacob's forthcoming project, mostly just a couple different component values, but Jacob's PCB is also going to have a couple extra options on it. The really big things are that the tremolo mode is back on -- no more volume drop! -- and that it now works with a wider range of photocells instead of requiring the VTL5C1. I used a Silonex 7530 here (the same photocell used in many univibe clones) because it looks awesome.

I'm still filming the demo, which I have to finish tonight before I mail this off to Scooter.

Skip down to the list at the bottom, especially #3 about getting the second notch. I'm not sure what schematic the numbering refers to for C7 etc.; does anyone know and could relate them to the harbinger schematic?

Yay! Corey's off the wagon! :D

Nice looking build. How does the lack of an output buffer affect things? (It seems to be more common to leave off the input buffer).

Post voltages.

Have you audioprobed to find out where you're losing signal?

Just a small heads up:

Apparently the 2i2 has clipping/gain problems if you plug your guitar directly into it. It should be fine if you mic your amp. Not all people report the problem, but you can google around for "2i2 clipping" and read some forums.

Even my sheraton only clips it in the last 10% of the knob's rotation. Microphones clip it a heck of a lot earlier than that. :/

I was also listening to these guys earlier this week for a review. Sort of Smiths-style new wave mashed up with riff rock like the Strokes.

Here's my review of the album in The Owl Mag, where I did my best to avoid the exact comparisons I made in the previous paragraph.

I'm ordering more, I was just looking for something in the meantime.

In that case, you can use any FET. It doesn't matter if it's just a buffer, but realize that stuff used in overdrives will distort if you push them.

Come on, Jimi, post a schematic. Don't make us google for it, or worse need to sign in to Barry's frigging site to view their build documents. ::) http://www.guitarpcb.com/PDF%20Files/MoWah%20v3.pdf

Anyway, when you're considering a FET for a buffer, you're interested in the |Vp|; this is the input voltage before the FET distorts.
2N5458 and 2N3819 both have high Vp. 2N5952 is probably the next best bet.

2N5457 is "adequate," and I'm willing to bet you have a couple in your parts bin, but it's only 1.5V of headroom. Put it in Q1 and use the MPF102 you have for the output buffer if you don't want to order some replacements.

What's it being used for?
Wah pedal

That's a type of effect, not a specific circuit or function. What's it being used for in the wah pedal? Are you building the Weener and using it for Q3?
