I had the same problem when I was building mine.  It turns out that there was a short on the solder side of the board.  Two connections were very close together and a bit of component lead was causing the short.  If you check around T4 and D3, that's a good place to start looking.  I found the problem with the help of an audio probe.  There should be a good signal going into the Octave Down section at point "A".  And the output of that section would be around R14 and C16.

Very nice !  The PCB is transparent?  Where do you get that material?

Super clean build !

Just listened to a demo.  Might have to put this on the future build list.

Just finished my Giant Hogweed Fuzz.  ( no camera for pics )  Lots and lots of fuzzy sounds.
I did shield the input wire to the 3PDT as I was getting some noise.  Very nice PCB to work with.
Thanks again to David for the project.  Onto the Liquid Mercury and the Twin Peaks !

I'm surprised that you had trouble with the spray paints.  I use Rustoleum spray paint all the time.
First, I sand the enclosure a bit and then I use the self-etching primer.  A few coats goes on very quickly.
And then the color coats.  Let it dry.   Decal.  Let it dry.  Clearcoats.  So far, I've not had any problems
with the paint not adhering.

BTW, very nice build !  :)

The SMT looks great !  Super clean build.  I'm thinking of trying some SMT this year.  It's got to be easier than learning to solder in the first place.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Collosalus problem
April 16, 2016, 01:26:42 AM
I have a problem with my Collosalus build.  ( 2015 PCB ).  When I apply power to all the IC's, the LT1054 gets very hot and I don't get the correct voltage out of the 15V regulator.

I check the voltages on each IC before moving on.  Every IC tested OK until the last one, the MN3007.  Without the MN3007, I get correct voltages on all the IC's.  But as soon as I put the 3007 in, the 15V out of the regulator drops ( to around 7V ) and the LT1054 starts getting very hot.  Since I have this problem, I have not even connected the inputs and outputs.  I bought the 3007's from a China Ebay seller and I'm wondering if the chips are defective.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  I do plan on getting a "good" 3007 from Smallbear or another reputable place.

Love viewing this thread.  It takes a lot of skill to make these dishes.  Many of these pictures
make me so hungry.  Yum !

I think I need a camera so I can take pics of builds and such  :)

Any recommendations?  Are the $25 cheap ones any good or should I avoid?  I really just need a basic camera.  Something to take pics of things and upload to the net.  It won't get much use if any outside of the home.
