Hi guys!

I´ve built the Naughty Fish few months ago, and though it has many cool sounds, I still haven´t felt comfortable with it on my board. I use a maxon af-9 which I like very much (but would wish it had a volume control like the Naughty Fish).

What botters me the most actually is the bandpass mode. Both on low or high modes, it sounds thin - on high mode it is particuarly anoying. And sometimes it is ok, but when I bypass and activate the effect again, it gets thinner.

I may be biased because of the AF9, in which bandpass offers a distinct sound.... the naughty fish sounds like lo-pass/hi-pass/freakin´ thin freq´s pass (this is my bandpass). There may be something wrong with my build, but before losing my hair messing with it, I would like to know if someone experienced the same thing/or this is standard mutron sound.

(I was suspicious of the toggle used, but it is indeed a on/on/on)

Hi there! I have with me a 2013 aquaboy dx. I like it, but today I compared it side to side with a DM2. The repeats on the boss are much thicker and on the dark side whereas mine are more clear and a bit before it enters the self oscilation territory it just sounds cricket like. The repetitions are thinner and very mid frequency. I tried the dd2 hi cut mod but it is probably best to tweak the LP filter between the second bbd and the 571 expander, right? Can anyone give me some tips on how to do that?

Hi there! Quick question. I have a Dunlop Uni-vibe UV1 that the fastest setting is just not fast enough. Actually, it is not really fast at all, and I´d like more helicopter like settings.

Is there a way to mod it? I thought it would be something as simple as with the CE-2, but clearly it is different. Here is the schematic portion I found. Changing the 92k resistor would only limit the pot action, whereas changing the pot to something like 100k would change the resulting value, but I don´t think this would make it any faster, only more control over the slow settings.

Anyways, any ideas are really appreciated!

Has anyone compared the naughty fish with the Maxon Af9?

As it seems, the Maxon is also based on the Mutron III, with the voltage supply being a major difference (such as for the Naughty fish, anyway).

I want to build a nice envelope filter to use with the harmonica, but the Maxon is the only one that provided good results so far. I have tried a few and built a snow white from Mad Professor which turned out great for the guitar, but not for anything else (more or less on the bass).

The Maxon, on the other hand, works well with just about any kind of input. I have never found its schematic, but I am pretty sure it shouldn´t be much different then the Naughty fish, can anyone confirm?

I finished building my pork barrel and the layout really helps when compared to my old ce-2 clone.

I want to try something new with this one and be able to ajust the levels both for the wet and direct signals. Tonepad suggests a 250kc pot in series with the 47k resistor (R27 on the pork barrel), so I think that having the same approach with R9 would do the trick for the direct signal.

Would it be ok to set the potentiometers as voltage dividers? I ask that because I don´t have C log potentiometers, and they are really important for that mod (meant to be a variable resistor). Setting the potentiometers as voltage dividers gives me a more even response with a regular log pot, but I am worried about impedance issues.

Hi there!

I got myself a 15v regulated power supply, and want to make some adaptations to the circuit. The repetition quality is much improved, but I´ve followed the instructions, and even with the suggestions, I feel that:

1) The modulation led indicator gets just too bright. Increasing R48 should do the trick, but I am not sure it will have other side effects (as it is connected to the tl062).

2) Even with the trimpot fully ccw, I can´t get past 12 on the feedback control without going into crazy self oscilation. Will increasing R39 help (without affecting the signal return)? What else could be done here?

3) WIth the mix maxed out, the repetition volume is way louder than the original note. Will a resistor in series with mix lug 3 help? Or increasing R38 maybe?

Hi!

Finished my aquaboy deluxe yesterday, but I am not getting any delayed signal.

As it was late, I didn´t debug much, but I checked that there was voltage to the correct mn3005 pins, and the ground was also ok. Signal is getting loud and clear to the first bbd, on pin 7. (Both mn3005´s are tested and working on other build)

I could hear clock noise as well, when adjusting the clock trimmer.

Then I noticed I have soldered D3, which is only meant for V3205´s. I don´t think it can do any harm, but it dropped the voltage going to the bbd´s. The battery I used for testing had about 8v, and the bbd´s were receiving about 6,5v.

I am hoping that by removing d3 and using a power supply it will work, but I am at work now and it will take 8 hours to find out.... Sorry for sharing my frustration, lol.

Can anyone think of another possible issue?

I built the Dirtbag few months ago (MN3005 version), and played quite a bit with it.

It sounds really nice but quite warm - great for textures and modulation, but not so great for slapback or patterns. SInce I never tried the real one, I supposed it was ok...the whole analog thing...

I could compare it with a 90´s DMM a few days ago, and realized that the repeats had quite a bit more high end (bright content) to it. It was still warm, but with much more clarity.

I´ve tweaked the trimpots a bit, but I am positive it is not just that. I was thinking of modding some fix values to see if I can get a similar result.

The DMM v in is about 15.4 - 15.6 V. I use a 15V power supply (not the road rage).

I figure I should mess with the low pass filters, in order to allow more high frequencies on the repeats (there should also be a high pass filter to keep it less muddy too).

Does anyone have a suggestion where to try first?

Hi! Can anyone help me with that, or let me know if also noticed a similar problem?

(1) Project Name - Lowrider Octave

(2) General description of the problem - It works ok, but I notice some fuzzy signal bleed off (all the octaves with a strong distortion) even with the pots down to 0 . It is not loud, but audible. As you increase the volumes, the ratio gets better, but it doesn't disappear...

For guitar it is really not a big deal, because the effect is not so (digital) clean anyway. For the harmonica, it gets in the way a bit. The element in the mic is really hot and drives just about any amp, so if I just want the lower octaves, the octave up adds a bit too much edginess to the sound.

(3) Steps that you have taken to try to resolve the issue - Move the I/O cables, but nothing happened - they are really short and the fit is really tight on the enclosure; I've tried to use 500k pots just to see if it would make a difference, but the bleed off is still the same; Audioprobed a bit, and even when I touch direct signal´s pot (down to 0), I get this signal.


(4) List any substitutions you used for parts/values - Changed the value listed on the mods for a stronger upper octave, but even stock the bleedoff is just the same.

Can anyone try to see if this is also happening to yours LR? Just open the amp's volume and turn all the knobs counterclockwise.
