Finished it! It works quite alright compared to my maxon af9. On some settings it just starts to squeal like crazy and i have to turndown the peak or gain.
Two weird things i noticed is that the led indicator is always on (it gets darker as you turn off the effect, but is never off) and the intensity led indicator doesn't work. Anyone has any idea what may have gone wrong?

Thanks for the reply!!! Got myself some ICL7660SCPAZ. 45mA seems like a safer bet, right?

Hi there! I am about to build mine, but I have no TL1054 around (would have to import them).

I have a few MAX1044 though. I think that for this pedal the current draw shouldn´t be a problem (the maxon af9 is a similar pedal and it takes a bit less than 20mA), and my power supply is 9.3V. I am just wondering if I should change the 12v zener for a 10v zener just to be safe with the MAX1044 (10V max). Other than that, I should connect pins 1 and 8 as per the instructions on the road rage, right?

Luckily I have the vactrols with me, so at least that should be no problem!

Tks,
André

You may want to check the 9v tracing going to pin 13 of the compander. You should be getting 9V there!

Did you get it to work? I am having problems with my. It was working alright, but last time I tried the delayed signal was very weak.

I probed it, and it seems to have a problem on the compander. The signal is clear and strong until the second half of it (pins 14 and 15). But when I try either 10 or 11 (the output), it is very quiet.

Didn´t measure the voltages yet, but will do later today.

Anyone has any idea?

Tks,
André

Anyone has it? Would like to know what are the extras to a common buffer. Tks!

General Questions / Re: Naughty fish X Maxon Af9

Yes! My only objection now is that the current Real x USD rates are very unfavorable, and I´ll have to get several parts from smallbear. If only I had the chance to try a mutron to get a better idea...

Tks for the input Grindcustoms!

I am thinking that the gain knob has a different function that the sensitivity has on the maxon. The input desing should make a big difference as well. Dont know if it is worth the trouble to build one now as i am not planningto use it for guitar

General Questions / Naughty fish X Maxon Af9
August 15, 2014, 12:49:30 PM
Hi there!

Has anyone compared the naughty fish with the Maxon Af9?

As it seems, the Maxon is also based on the Mutron III, with the voltage supply being a major difference (such as for the Naughty fish, anyway).

I want to build a nice envelope filter to use with the harmonica, but the Maxon is the only one that provided good results so far. I have tried a few and built a snow white from Mad Professor which turned out great for the guitar, but not for anything else (more or less on the bass).

The Maxon, on the other hand, works well with just about any kind of input. I have never found its schematic, but I am pretty sure it shouldn´t be much different then the Naughty fish, can anyone confirm?

Hello!

I finished building my pork barrel and the layout really helps when compared to my old ce-2 clone.

I want to try something new with this one and be able to ajust the levels both for the wet and direct signals. Tonepad suggests a 250kc pot in series with the 47k resistor (R27 on the pork barrel), so I think that having the same approach with R9 would do the trick for the direct signal.

Would it be ok to set the potentiometers as voltage dividers? I ask that because I don´t have C log potentiometers, and they are really important for that mod (meant to be a variable resistor). Setting the potentiometers as voltage dividers gives me a more even response with a regular log pot, but I am worried about impedance issues.

Tks!

Scruffie, sorry for the late reply, but thank you so much for your help! It worked like a charm!

Any ideas? When audio probing the Mn3005s, the signal is way louder than the direct one.

Hi there!

I got myself a 15v regulated power supply, and want to make some adaptations to the circuit. The repetition quality is much improved, but I´ve followed the instructions, and even with the suggestions, I feel that:

1) The modulation led indicator gets just too bright. Increasing R48 should do the trick, but I am not sure it will have other side effects (as it is connected to the tl062).

2) Even with the trimpot fully ccw, I can´t get past 12 on the feedback control without going into crazy self oscilation. Will increasing R39 help (without affecting the signal return)? What else could be done here?

3) WIth the mix maxed out, the repetition volume is way louder than the original note. Will a resistor in series with mix lug 3 help? Or increasing R38 maybe?

Thanks!
André

Nice build!!! Thank you very much for the help!

I´d go for the pot as I used a 500k on a previous build and the responde was more adequate, but I though it could have something to do with the ldr combo I used instead of the vactrol.

I meant R56, not 51...
