Open Discussion / Question about diode type
September 27, 2012, 02:37:16 AM
Hi guys!
I'm working on a layout for a MXR M108 ten band EQ. Found a schem for it but there are 3 unknowned diodes on the layout (D1 D2 and D3). Looking at the guts can't help because they are smt diodes on the original, and looking at the schem they are zener protection diodes.
Can somebody share his knowledge and suggest a model that would suit the build? I forgot to mention that it runs at 18V.
Thanks a lot

Open Discussion / Pickup simulator
September 11, 2012, 06:33:06 AM
Hi guys!
I've got something to ask to the stompbox gurus around here.
I found some effects to be weak using single coils pickups and some other sound less "vintage" using humbuckers so here is what I'd like to do:
I'd like to breadboard 2 circuits, one to heat single coils tones and the other to tame the humbuckers a little bit, using a 3 band EQ and a transformer to get the pickup simulation.
Do you think there's a way to make this alive? I don't want to buy lots of transformers and send them to the garbage, and I'm new to using these in stompboxes circuits.
Any information is welcome. Thanks!

Mods / Rub a Dub reverb
August 02, 2012, 10:50:42 PM
I was thinking about these mods (please note they are uneverified yet) :
-Switching between two bricks with a 3PDT:
Make a sandwich of two bricks , Attach pin 1 of brick 1 to pin 1 of brick 2, repeat the process for pin 2 and pin 4, each pin going to it's corresponding pad on the Pcb.
Wire a 5k resistor on each pin 5 and 6 of the two bricks, tie each 5k of 5 and 6 together, and run this on a 3pdt, at two opposite poles, center pole is wired on the left side of R9 to the PCB (so you can omit R9 and R10 on the PCB now). Wire pin 3 of each brick at opposite poles of the 3pdt, and center lug to pad 3 of the PCB. You can now swich between two bricks with your feet  ;) (you can use a DPDT if you prefer using a toggle switch.
- Feedback mode: omit R9 on the PCB, on the right pad of R9 solder a wire going to pin 1 of a SPST (momentary footswitch, or toggle switch to your taste), pin 2 of the SPST run a wire soldered to pin3 of the brick.
Feel free to comment if you think I'm wrong and they can't work.

Anyone tried one of these?
http://www.betlux.com/led/5mm-round-piranha-led-BL-FL7680.htm

It's shape can be usefull for led/ldr combo or lighting up a lid lightplate, there's some a good area to glue on it.
The monocolor ones have 2 pins for anode and 2 pins for cathode...

Build Reports / Neptune delay
July 30, 2012, 10:44:19 PM
Finally finished this cool box  ;D
Enclosure is blue hammertone from pedalenclosure (first time using these and man, they are indestructible...), the opto is the siliconex from smallbear.
This effect is really fun and I recommend it.
Thanks to CJ for the PCB and Brian for the awesome faceplate  ;)

General Questions / Buffered bypass with dpdt
July 29, 2012, 12:37:35 PM
I'm working on the eagle board of a fuzz I developped. I'd like to use a buffered bypass using a dpdt a la Pete Cornish. I'd like to know if I can use the same layout on my Pcb as the squared input layout on the darkside schematic to use it, and use the same switch wiring too.
Thanks for any help

Open Discussion / NGD - Fender telebration
July 27, 2012, 12:15:49 PM
This is a NGD  ;D
I just received my fender telebration old growth redwood. Finish and woods is beautiful, neck is so pleasant to travel, after 6 months without a guitar, I just can't stop playing, I'm so happy  ::)
Tested it in a retailer months ago and I'm so lucky it was still available when I gathered the money.
Wood is resonant and gives a lot of high mediums  :D

Open Discussion / Your favorite solo
July 18, 2012, 05:24:32 AM
I'm going to be married on saturday. My wife has been really cool with my addiction to pedal stuff ( hours of soldering, painting, web browsing, paypal bills etc...) so I wanna play a guitar solo during our wedding as a gift.
I'll use my pedal gear and a friend's les paul custom, vox night train.
So I wanna know what's your favorite love song guitar solo, to help me decide wich one should I play (considering I won't have a lot of time to train). I already know Still loving you from Scorpions, nothing else matters of Metallica, november rain from the guns and some stuff like that.

Thanks!

Hi! I have finished the neptune delay.
Delay works fine, all the controls are interactive, but the spst momentary switch doesn't do anything.
Since the delay works fine I have already boxed it  :-\
The SW is a spst so no matter what pole goes the wires from the board right?
I have used a siliconex opto from smallbear, the longest lead of the led side goes to the square pad right?
I don't know where to orient my search...

Open Discussion / NPD - Basic Audio gnarly fuzz
June 27, 2012, 04:43:43 AM
This is what I had in the mail box this morning  ;D
Everything is outstanding... Even if I build 100 pedals I think I can't do it that clean and beautifull.
Can't tell of the sound as I can't test it at the moment.
Enjoy the pedal porn  ;)

My take on their kit. The enclosure was pre-drilled and one knob is a little bit mis-aligned.
Had no other knobs then these cheap tayda ones at the moment, I'll replace them soon.
Hammertone paint with enamel lettering.
Tried it on a friend's gear and this thing snarls, spits, yells, oscillates etc... everything but vintage. It is a little bit incontrolable but once you've plugged it in, there are so much sounds you can get that you can't stop playing.
If someone want to get pics of the PCB layout, I can provide it.

Cheers!

Build Reports / Sabertooth
June 25, 2012, 02:54:35 AM
Finished a sabertooth build using out of production MBP board I had for a while now. Hammertone paint with a duck sticker.
No tweaks or mods. I gave it to my best friend who's a bassist. We tried it and it's really awesome, instant Muse sound with his american precision bass.
I forgot to take guts before giving it  :-\

Open Discussion / Dwarfcraft devices kits
June 09, 2012, 09:50:41 AM
I found today that dwarfcraft devices are now selling kits for the great destroyer fuzz and robot devil octave fuzz.
The robot devil has predrilled enclosure and a label artwork sticker to put on it.
I wasn't able to decide wich one to order so I took both  ::)

Open Discussion / Boost and Ts808 suggestions
June 02, 2012, 11:56:48 PM
Hi guys!
I'd like to put together a Ts808 and a boost in one enclosure.
Do you have any suggestions on boosts that work great with this circuit?
I have a slambox, a thunderpuss, and a fatpants board ready to go in that... Or maybe a baby boobtube?
Thanks.

Open Discussion / Soldano supercharger gto
May 18, 2012, 03:28:08 AM
Hi all!
I've just seen that ampclones.com now sell some pcbs for a supercharger gto.
The board is pricey and I don't know what type and price range it will be for the transformer...
What do you guys think about it? There's not that much info on forums for this beast.
