Requests / Moollon effects
April 26, 2011, 12:13:03 PM
I heard demos of the moollon pedals in my favorite guitar store. I heard the chorus, fuzz and distortion. They are really good handwired pedals. Anyone have a schem of them?

General Questions / Switchable dual effect
April 21, 2011, 11:45:00 AM
I'd like two mudbunny's muffs in one box. Is there a way to wire it in order to switch the boards so that there's only one board engaged at a time? I mean one switch to engage the box and one to select the pcb... ???
It would be a cool effect!

Build Reports / Uproar with facemelter mod
April 16, 2011, 09:24:20 AM
I just finished my uproar using the facemelter mod. This is my firs succesfull use of waterslide decals   :)
I called it the snake bite.
Everything worked when I wired it up.
Even if it's not my favorite distortion to day (I love the kokbox) it's pretty impressive, huge presence, really cool variations with the clipping options. I built the facemelter mod just for fun and it really kicks ass! Huuuuuuuge wall of fuzz but I think it's hard to use it on a gig.
Sorry for the poor pics

Open Discussion / Echo base
March 29, 2011, 01:54:15 PM
I've just purchased an echo base PCB from jLivingston
http://cgi.ebay.fr/Analog-style-guitar-delay-PCB-DIY-Echo-Base-pedal-/150576804491?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item230f13b28b
I've been very surprised when I saw the PDF with the building instructions.
There only two lugs of the 3pdt switch wired, one wire from the board to each of the jacks, and absolutely no ground.
I know it's not a MBP project but it would be cool if someone can explain me how does it work to bypass without a single ground...  ???
I don't know if I can post the doc here, I think I must ask mr livingston himself

Build Reports / Machine
March 21, 2011, 06:08:21 PM
Here's my recently finished machine. As a nine inch nails fan I named it the "Pretty hate machine".
First time I'm using a madbean fabbed board, and it's really a pleasure to solder!
It worked perfectly once I've finished the soldering.
I love that cool effect I'm now using with my kokbox. It adds so much gain, grain... Perfect for grunge, industrial, or boosting your solos! A unique sound under the foot.
Sorry for the poor pics using my iphone.
Thanks Madbean for such great PCBs  :D

I know sir madbean already made a pcb on fsb for this beast. I wonder if the project could be finished, by completing the pdf with the BOM, the wiring schem of the switches, pots etc...
If this is done I'll try to etch my first pcb  :)

Build Reports / Retrograde
March 18, 2011, 08:17:57 PM
Here is my recently completed retrograde aka retro-octav.
I made a huge nooby mistake, allowing me to spend hours of debugging... I inverted in/out jacks on left/right of the box.
Now that it's ok I can tell this little pedal sounds so good and the octave effect is really cool. You can hear some 70's mojo  :D
I expected it to be noisy and a little fuzzy, but the fuzz is huge and there is no background noise.
Enclosure is copper powder coated, the lettering is stamped.
I recommand this build.
Thanks guys for the tech help

Tech Help - Projects Page / Please help me...
March 08, 2011, 05:12:46 PM
Hi guys!
I've got a serious problem with my last 3 builds (one is already in the tech help : the kokbox).
Here's the problem : I built a firebomb, a kokbox and a retrograde. All the three were working in the test box, then I boxed and wired them. The kokbox didn't worked after boxing but the retrograde and the firebomb were fully working. I played with them, plugged and unplugged 3 or 4 times, and then they didn't work anymore  :'(
On these 3 the bypass and the led are normal, simply no sound at all when engaged. I only use brand new 9v batteries.
Since the problem appears to be on all my builds I'd like to know what's going wrong to take a lesson for the future. Is it a bad solder (I use 60/40 rosin solder)? grounding problem? Broken wire (I use stranded untinned wire)? Everything looks fine in the box.
Now that all my madbean's project aren't working anymore it drives me crazy and I absolutely don't know where to look at  ???
Damn they worked perfectly...

Tech Help - Projects Page / Kokbox problem
February 25, 2011, 03:34:59 PM
Hi guys!
I've got a problem with my kokbox. I've populated the board and wired the 3PDT, then I tested it with my test box and everything went fine. Now that I boxed it i have a bypass signal, but no sound when the effect is engaged. The led is lighting correctly. The only issue I had is that I had to force a little to let the pots (9mm board mounted) pass into the drilled holes of the enclosure. So I soldered them again but the problem is still here. Do you think I must change the pots?
Tell me if you need gut pics or voltage readings.
Thanks for the help!

General Questions / Epoxy Resin
February 20, 2011, 11:11:57 AM
I heard of an epoxy resin finish for stompboxes.
I imagine how cool the results may be : high gloss finish, and high durable protection.
If anyone here have any info on this, I'd be interested !
I don't know how I can apply it equaly over the enclosure...
There's one FSB user , using this method, but he didn't answer to PMs  :'(

Build Reports / Rump roast
February 13, 2011, 09:58:21 PM
I love this original project! Very cool sound  :D
Lot of electrycal tape in there.
Like the firebomb I built I completely f..cked up the enclosure so I tried something on it.
I've cut a piece of plexiglas and engraved "Dr Z" in it with a dremel. I'v drilled it for the led and footswitch.
I used a ultrabright led. The result is very cool in the dark. I've taken at least 20 photos of it but none render it properly. I think I'll do it again on a beautiful enclosure from PPP (I won't paint them myself in the future as they are alway awful).

Build Reports / Test Box
February 13, 2011, 08:54:48 PM
I know it's not really a stompbox build but this tiny thing will sure help me later on debugging and testing.
I was sick of trying to find my mistakes after boxing everything in the enclosure.
I encourage all the noobs like me to build one  ;D

Build Reports / Firebomb
February 03, 2011, 10:55:54 AM
I just finished my firebomb, thanks to lincolnic for the help (I made a wiring mistake).
Yet a have another problem with this project. I had a chemical reaction within the spray paint and the clear coat  :-\ The clearcoat made the shining silver paint turning into a grey mate finish...but not under the decal !!!  :'(    Had the same problem with the enclosure I prepared for my rump roast 'cause I made them at the same time. I was so angry I labeled the pots with posca.
I think I'll throw away my clearcoat can and I'll make another enclosure for that pedal.
Even if it's awful, the sound is awesome! It makes my guitar yelling and crunching. Huge amount of gain available. With one gain engaged to 3 or 4, it makes the clean sound sparkly and shiny  :)
Sorry for my english!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Rump Roast help
January 31, 2011, 09:44:33 PM
Hi,
I just finished my rump roast. Wiring's OK, checked the solders with the DMM...
I've done the bias to 4.5v on each drain. Bypass is OK. I wired it as an overdrive.
Here's the problem : with gain to 1 the signal is close to the bypass.
On 2 it gets a subtle crunchy overdrive, and on 3 it starts whistling like a larsen.
If I continue to turn the gain knob the larsen note changes.
I don't know where to start with this debugging, any idea welcome!
Tell me if you need voltages, or pictures and I'll make some.
Thanks in advance  ;)

Open Discussion / Oscilloscope
January 31, 2011, 11:19:47 AM
I'd like to buy one cheap oscilloscope. Do you guys have any advice on brand, models, online shop, for a cheap oscilloscope that would do the job for signal analysis and save a lot of bucks?

I share a cool link if you have a great project with money to spend on :
http://www.schaeffer-ag.de/en/examples/front-panels.html
They make awesome custom aluminium panels, anodized, drilled if you want to.
They offer a very powerfull interface to design your dreams.
Hope it'll help someone!

Tech Help - Projects Page / FIREBOMB tech help
January 23, 2011, 01:36:39 PM
Hi guys!
I just finished my firebomb wiring and I've got a problem.
There's no signal when bypassed and when the boosts are engaged.
The leds are lightning normally when 3pdt are stomped.
I expect the signal going to the ground but I triple checked the wiring.
Is it a transistor problem? They are mounted on pins to avoid overheating during soldering.

General Questions / Noob Led question...
January 07, 2011, 08:20:59 AM
I just ordered a hundred ultrabright Led from china. I don't know wich resistor value should I choose. I know it's calculated by U=R*I. U is a 9v battery but what is the intensity in a 9v stombox circuit, applied to the led? I found that these leds must run under 3.2V and 20mA.
I wanna build a light emitting border of plexi like this one
http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=66840.0
If I put two leds in series, should I change the resistor?
Thanks guys

Requests / Lofi loop junky
December 18, 2010, 06:48:18 AM
I'd like to build a lofi loop junky.
It's a single loop looper from zvex with tremolo and 8bit sound treatment of the loop.
I'm a huge zvex fan ;)
I can't find a full schem anywhere. I only know it uses a isd1000 op chip.
This box costs 400$ i simply cant buy it  :o
I dont know if someone has built one. Such a challenge!

General Questions / Expression pedal
December 16, 2010, 01:08:25 PM
I would like to replace a pot by an expression pedal. I dont know if i must choose a phasel or a midi pedal, and how to connect it. Can somebody help me with this project?
