Tech Help - Projects Page / PROBLEM SOLVED: Script Phase 90' problems.
« on: October 24, 2013, 06:08:52 AM »
Hi guys,

my guitar teacher left me this beauty for repairing and I replaced the battery pin with a dc jack like this one: http://www.banzaimusic.com/Lumberg-PSU-1614-09.html (I just wired the red cable to the tip and the black one to earth).

The problem is that I have bypass but no sound when engaged.

I'll check voltages this evening, but maybe someone have an idea in the meantime.

This is an old rusty pedal, so I spected something like this to happen..

Build Reports / Madbean Kingslayer
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:23:28 PM »
This is my first build done in a fabbed PCB (the previous ones were made on home-etched pcbs).
This build is very similar to the one Madbean did quite ago and tries to be some kind of 'homage' as this is the first time I used a PCB that I bought from him.

The enclosure came from ColesBD.
It is wired with buffered bypass and I have to rebuild the dpdt with Pattex in order to give it consistency (this thing melts really quick!!).

Hard-clippers are OA126 that I got from Cromesphere (I prefer these to the 1N34A).
Soft-clippers are a pair of OA126 and two 1n60. I tried a pair of 3mm diffused red leds, but they make that "paper distortion" sound that I don't like at all.

I reduce R11 to 560k and it sounds pretty creamy and nice.

This is a really great design!!

Build Reports / Lots of soldering this past weeks
« on: October 09, 2013, 11:26:48 AM »
It's been a while since I really finish any project, so last weekend I decide to start soldering some PCBs I had laying around.

I've soldered all the pots and parts missing this morning. Weekend plans: drilling the boxes.
More to come in the next weeks.

I need to start saving some money for one of these and maybe a Ditto...

Tech Help - Projects Page / Potentiometer with strange value
« on: September 07, 2013, 03:10:04 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm about to buy some parts for building a pair of Firefly ODs I bought from Nick, the guy from NOC3.
Looking at the schematic it says the tone pot is 25kL. I've tried to contact him with no exit.

As the other pots are marked with and 'A' I presume 'L' stands for linear, am I correct?

I don't know if I'm right posting the schem here but you sure can find it at FSB.

Thanks in advance.

Build Reports / NON PEDAL: Class E power amplifier @900MHz
« on: August 08, 2013, 02:43:03 AM »
Although non suitable for guitar, I though I could post this as it is my second try at SMD soldering and  I'm quite proud. Not very neat but it works OK.

Note: the extra solder over the copper is used to make ground connections

If you wanna build one here you got the schematic (although I don't recomend it as the transistor costs about 90 €, 120 $ aprox.)

Open Discussion / 3 delays in series....
« on: May 09, 2013, 08:57:42 AM »
I've known of its existence for a while, but didn't pay too much attention to this delay until I listened to this:

I've done a little research and the manufacturer says it uses a compander like those used on analog echoes (like the aquaboy I think..). And I know there are out there some PT2399 based delays that use companders too.

Any guess on what this uses? I've heard some demos with guitar and the distortion increases with longer times just like in PT2399 delays..

Build Reports / Quasar/RC Booster
« on: May 01, 2013, 03:24:39 AM »
That's the 4th etched enclosue I've used, and I think I came out very nice.
It's a straight RC Booster version of the Quasar old project, charged with an LF353 because I actually broke one of the legs of the JRC4558 I ordered .... ;D

It really helps me pushing out singlecoils and does a real good work adding volume and definition to my beloved Ibanez AM400.
(Also helps to revitalize any OD if you put the RC after it in the chain: I've tested it with an old RAT, a Boss SD-1 and my Zendrive clone and it really does the work).

And some bonus: my first ever pedal build: the almighty Zendrive (Serendipity of course..):

Build Reports / Black Russian BMP
« on: February 20, 2013, 04:46:26 PM »
Hi everybody,
I'm Adán from Spain and this is my first topic in the forum! (I've been living in the shadows for a while....   :))

I started building pedals last summer with the projects Mr. Madbean released (my first build was a Serendipity and it remains in my pedalboard) and I have to say that this forum rules!!

I've learned a lot from you guys in the past six months (much more than in 4 years of electronic engineering studies)

This pedal is a Big Muff Pi (green russian specs) that I've built for a friend.

Gutshots:

and then, with a little help....
