Guitar pick ordered!
And some other things too.
I always forgot that pick because it's in the little corner there, so this time it was the first thing in the shopping cart.

And, BTW, thank you Brian for the free shipping!

I'd take one of these Diablos as well!

General Questions / A 470k pot???
June 10, 2013, 01:07:55 PM
Am just getting ready to order parts for the next builds. I want to do this one, Fred Briggs' E11even:

http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2013/01/briggs-e11even.html
http://revolutiondeux.blogspot.com/2012/02/fred-briggs-e11even-marshallesque.html

Where does one find a 470k pot (in Europe)? Can I just use a 500k one?
I intended to get 9mm pots for it all to go in a 1590a, so probably not this: http://www.musikding.de/Omeg-Poti-20mm-470k-lin
....

Thank you!

You can add http://www.musikding.de/ and http://www.banzaimusic.com/home.php in the parts suppliers list, they are interesting alternatives to smallbear for European builders.

And MEK/UK: http://uk-electronic.de/onlineshop/index.php?language=en
For quite a few things they're cheaper than the other two.

And maybe Reichelt for some things: http://www.reichelt.de/

Sparkplug rev1 doc is up: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Sparkplug/Sparkplug_rev1.pdf
Barber pedals are really good, I've had two of them in use for years. Also I like my Sparkplug V1. So I'd be curious to know what Mr. Barber himself thinks about the Sparkplug.

General Questions / Re: 2n404a equivalent?
April 05, 2013, 12:34:39 AM
I had the same issue the other day when finishing my PepperSpray, the original diodes and 2n404a are absolutely unobtainable in Europe.
I ended up using 1n34a for the diodes and an EFT83C at around 75 hfe IIRC - and am very pleasantly surprised, as I wasn't expecting too much, to be honest.

Wish I had some insight but I'm pretty much where you are when it comes to debugging. I've been building a while now but most of my builds have worked out and I've just tossed the fails into a box. I am reading it myself right now and I plan to go back to my very first build to fix it!

I will do exactly that as well. Have to make an audio probe, learn how to use it and get the stuff from the shelf of fail working.

Open Discussion / Re: Vero sucks
March 22, 2013, 08:20:12 AM
I find vero easy to work with, and way easier to unsolder than PCBs in case something goes wrong.
The thing is though that I've had good success with really small circiuts on vero (SHO, COT, ROG Peppermill, Naga Viper ...), but have a growing pile of not-working bigger circuits (a number of drives) that I can't seem to get to work.
My pile of PCBs has gone now, so I will have to learn to debug properly. Been measuring voltages the other evening etc., will have to make an audio probe next. Will report back, probably with lots of questions.

I refuse to believe you've only been doing this for a year. Your work is too good!

This! And congrats on a very good, productive year! I'm on this for like 15 months or so, but didn't feel I had to celebrate my 'progress' so far....  ;) I'm having a beer on you as I type this Jon, you really impress me with both your work and your drive to help the rest of us out when needed. Cheers!!

Paul

Yep. It can't be. I've been at it for what, 1,5 years or so, and still most I do is painting by numbers. Soldering by numbers, I mean.
Congratulations!
