Build Reports / TapTempo DP!

De Profundis delay with JMK Modulated TapTation board!

Even without the tap tempo, i don't know why...........but this is the best sounding PT Delay that i've built......3rd time that i build this layout........and i got my twists working like i wished on this one  8)

Time LED in Time Knob and Division LED in Feedback Knob!

Hi guys! I'm almost done with my first tube amp project, so here's a resume of the build thread i have at BYOC, you can see the full thread here: http://www.buildyourownclone.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=41159

This is a Firefly 1 Watt tube amp project, that i decided to fit into a 1590DD enclosure that i got from PPP with the translucent hand brushed copper finish.

The enclosure when i received it.

Some Pre-Drilling

So populating...and off board wiring that have changed through out the process.

mg]http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/404231_407645889308987_2142041046_n.jpg[/img]

Some enclosure prepping..........

Power and Output Transformers installed!  ;D

Prepping the tube wiring..

And then learned.........that i needed shielded wire on the Grid pins of the preamp tubes, since it's high gain....

Ready to receive the sockets!

Got some amps name plate made..........still waiting after another set..to complete the final look...
Thanks to Dave for the help with the graphic layout ;)

Operating but temporary gut shots......, going to take out the SuperOrgyCapacitorParty out when i receive the appropriate cap.. and i will probably change the pots for some Clarostat...

Glory hole at the back is for future mini jack that will used with the footswitch to control the Boost On/Off.

Naked!

The Tubes!

V1 & V2 are a Tested Matched set of RCA/Silvertone that i bought on Ebay, when i have some spare money........i'll get some Ei 12AX7 for it..........

V3 is a NOS RCA ClearTop 12AU7, the same thing that i used in my previous BoobTube built.

Final Shot!

Controls and Switch from left to right:

Input, Clear/Normal/Bright Switch above
Gain
Boost Level
Boost Switch, status LED above, power LED under
Bottom, Power switch
Top, Standby switch

I wanted to have the blue LED in the tube sockets that lit up when standby is ON, but it was getting a bit in there.........maybe later!

With tube shields on :)

Close to impossible to not have dust on that finish.........

Build Reports / Tenebrion Reverb Deluxe......
November 07, 2012, 07:41:03 PM
Well! since my first built went pretty well, i decided to not wait after a BYOC flanger kit and build a reverb with the little of parts i had laying around, hopefully.......i had everything i needed!

This is basically 2x CJ's Box of Hall proto-boards, Short brick going into Long brick, the Short brick one have been modded with the oscillation path that is part of the Tenebrion Reverb soon available....(c'mon post man!).

I installed a switch to select between 2 different oscillation presets and actuated with a momentary switch......, THIS is fawking awesome.............for intro, riff transition..........whatever.......it just rocks!

On to the pics!

Prepping the enclosure for the seclectable oscilation pots......

The brick on these are standing on top of the pcb, because of a little mistake in the brick pinout on the pcb....

They usually go under, so this was giving me a little height profile issue...., so i used some 90degree header pins that i bought from Tayda a while ago....., gave me 3.5mm lower than the pcb mounted pots and no risk of touching other components.

The bricks are also socketed, i found socket that fit these well :)

The controls are Reverb and Damp for each, the Damp is kind of a tone control, but it also adds some sort of spongyness to the whole thing.........i like it maxxed all the way....for cleans :)

Build Reports / BOTTOMIZED....
November 05, 2012, 05:28:47 AM
2 more builts going to bass players............I tought of adding a B-Blender on the SFT........but 5 knobs would have been to much!  ;)

So here's my take on the SFT, using MadBeans Faultline.

I changed some cap values at the input, output and tone stack. It's also loaded with J201 instead of 2N5457.

This thing sound great! Miss Spector loves it!   8)

It's going to a close friend that is playing in a In Flames cover band.

This is another Rothwell LoveSqueeze, It's going to Dominic Forest Lapointe, one of most talented metal bass player in Quebec, he plays in couple notorious bands from that scene, Augury, Beyond Creation, TeraMobil and BARF.

In fact...., the other LS that i built previously went to is bandmate in TeraMobil, he tried it, loved it.........invited me to their show this past saturday and he ordered one! Yeah!   ;D

I'm uploading a clip of him, that i took backstage when we where gear talking....will post later...

Build Reports / In the needs of Boobs?
November 01, 2012, 10:47:38 PM
Finally got my 1 1/4 step drill bit..........., so i can now go tube frenzy!   :D

Here's my take on JuanSolo/Marauder BoobTube wich is a variant of the ValveCaster....this thing is BRUTAL.

More musical than anything i've played before and i'm not saying musical because of the hype of it...or the trend...., just because it is........!  :o

Here are little details.........

-6.66 Reneggadrian Voltage Multiplier

-18v power supply, 12Vreg for the heaters, 120V at the plate

-NOS RCA 12AU7 Clear Top tube.

-Rusky PIO Tone caps, 15nf Rusky PIO input cap.

-Sideswitch is for «standby» so the tube is not automatically under tension when you plug the pedal.

-Top switch removes the master volume and tone stack from the audio path.

PICS!  ;D

I did a vero layout for the caps and resistor going on the tube, was a bit too much problem fitting all that on the socket....due to size of components.

Close up!

Standby and Bypass Status

ON and Bypass Status

ON and Effect ON Status

Tube shield/protector on....

The only mod i will do to the whole thing, is adjust the value of the gain pot, when the volume and tone are bypassed, with the gain pot just past 75% it starts to oscillate. And start to oscillate when the volume and tone stack are maxed around 85% of the Gain pot...so i'll drop it to 75K and it should fix that issue....well i hope, any recommendation are welcome  :)

What i'm the most happy is that when it was on the breadboard and BOB, it was radiophonic and hissy...but had super long length of wires and what not. It's now dead quiet.......well for what it is.....

Oh! and i used the biggest heatshrink(that's how it's called ?!?) for the 12Vreg.........the enclosure! Hahaha!

Build Reports / Rotten Komp.........
November 01, 2012, 12:35:00 AM
A simple and efficient Rothwell Love Squeeze compressor, works great on guitar and also really good on bass with «stock» specs.

I've built this for a MetalHead friend here who plays in couple bands, 7string guitars in TeraMobil and 7 string bass in UnHuman.

Really pleased by the flat response of this comp, with my 7string guitar, no low frequencie lost and either on my LowB tuned bass......a nice go to comp that does'nt asks for any fancy component  8)

Thanks to Jon (Midwayfair) who helped me narrow down the options for the purpose of this comp.  ;)

Also....this white and black paint pattern and is my «official» compressor paint job..........it just get along the effect imo...... ::)

Audio/Video Demos / Ghetto Boob Tube.......
October 30, 2012, 07:47:35 PM
Here's a little clip of the Boob tube i'm working on.

18V power supply, 12V to the heaters and 120V to the plates! Hell yeah!

Build Reports / Purple Wrinkle 666!
October 21, 2012, 01:38:26 AM
Well..............another mini! Can't get enough of these....hehe.

Used IvIark vero layout of the Lovepedal Purple Plexi 800, low part count and it sounds terrific!

It's a JRC386/LM386 based circuit, thanks to atreidesheir for helping me with the IC's  ;)

Just have another mini to built to complete a trade deal i have with a guy who runs a used «booteek» pedal store. 4 mini's against 3 pretty cool pedals that i don't think that i would have bought... :D

Build Reports / NicoFX's KTB!
October 17, 2012, 03:01:08 AM
So here's another Heliotrope! :D

A while ago i had a build trade going with NicoFX (a BYOC member), i sent him the first Heliotrope i had made.........but it never made is way to Swiking land......., in fact in stuff that i shipped that week oversea.........3 packages never made it............, my bad, i had choosen the wrong shipping method.........

So after months of wait........to make sure that it was'nt going to make surface, and both of us wanting to seal that trade, I built this other one for him.

When i receive my pedal from him, i'll post pics here, it's pretty exquisite.... 8)

Build Reports / Black & Burst........a little duo...
October 14, 2012, 06:01:29 AM
So to conclude this pedal building night shift, Madbean's Neutrino, Lovepedal Eternity.

I built both variants to find them both.......like.......an ordinary story........

Can't understand why people are paying 2 bills for a drive like that......, the mini TS i previously built, cover pretty much everything what this does and much more............in a better way aswell........

But it's fun to box pedal and for once do couple «clean» enclosures, also think that will copyright the «Knot» 3PDT hook-up style...  :D

And.....Big Thanks to Rocko1369 for the awesome t-shirt and stickers he sent me!

Bring the noise!  8)

Build Reports / Androgynous.......w/LED Party Clip!
October 11, 2012, 09:52:46 AM
Here's Frequency Central Causality 4 MKII Phaser! 8)

This is a really cool phaser, it's OTA based so no FET matching gimmick, still sounds really rich depending of the setting..........because......there's a lot!

In a certain way you're almost able to totaly quit the phaser territory and enter something that i think this circuit have on his own....pretty cool, almost sounds like auto-wah or a chorus.

I have a clip uploading for the Shape and Speed status LED, that's a neat trick right there, it just enhance the whole fun of that pedal.

I also added the «Dry Only» switch, becomes really nasty with extreme settings!

So.......even if Dave posted is last built that is totally incredible......i decided to post mine..Hahaha!

Thanks to Dave for his help with the graphics for laser etching ;)

Upside down gut shot FTW!

So here's another RaulDuke layout, the Plexi Drive!  8)

I'm REALLY digging those JFET overdrives, there's just something so responsive and dynamic into them, it compresses the signal.........but it's sound like it's always expanding.........anyway.......it rocks!

No magnificient SJ Effect 3PDT board in this one........i soldered it to a bad 3PDT........  >:(
.......and was too lazy to take it out.........2 sided pcb's are bitch....even more when you can only access one side......... i tried to keep it clean as possible, first time that i use a zip-tie, works great.....

Oh, about the title.........in the schem provided by Steve, there was a note that the J201 needed to have a voltage between 4.5v and 5v maximum.........so i decided to threat this like a phaser........and match them...haha, it took around 75 J201 to find 3 with the exact same voltage......a beautiful 4.76v.....

Dunno if it makes it sound better, but it sound damn good!

I've also used a 2PDT for further cap experimention, i will add some sockets to each pins and fool with that..........maybe to add a bit of «Oooommph», so it sounds like a Plexi with KT77....

Special thanks to UncleGeek for those nice 470pf WIMA caps he sent me, i feel like i'm the dudes who make the Boiling Point with specialy selected components in specialy choosen place...Hahahaha
While i was feeling special i also replace the 1uf polyfilm for a Tant...but forgot to put one or 2 carbon comp resistors......
