Build Reports / E=bq3 (SJ effect content)
October 04, 2012, 12:00:38 AM
Here's Raulduke ToneMeister!  8)

Really love this little tool, definitly the pedalboard «secret weapon».

Tons of boost and headroom, blessings to the 18v provided by the charge pump.

The Eq is also really nice, each band have a nice and smooth sweep.

It have also proven me that my idea of using this type of Eq into an OD pedal definitly have is place

The pics does'nt really show the paint job...........or anything at all.......  ::)

I did the black on bare soft distressed, but i applied the multi-color clear coat on it, it really makes the «punched» labelling comes out........but not in the pictures..........oh well........

So here's my second Master Of Drive, i don't build these to often......., quite alot of job.....7 hours in a row to nail it down ;)

Enjoy!

My take on the OCD, the name came when i was done with the sanding and enjoying the smashin' labelin'............

Looked like a zebra......., so yeah.......The ZOD!

This thing LOVES to be run on 18v, going to try that with couple of my OD's now...
Gives a little bit headroom and with not much gain dialed in and alot of volume, it definetly shows.......

Alakazoo! (google this)

Open Discussion / CJ's Game Of Tones Build DOC
September 28, 2012, 08:43:26 PM
Hi guys, here's the link to CJ's Game of Tones pcb. Alot of people over here have bought some from me so i tought i could share it here instead of replying to a ton of private messages.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28586266/BOM/GOT_Build.pdf

Some more informations and tweaks to what is already mentionned in the doc:

You can use any dual op-amp, they will all sound good, but i strongly recommend some Burr Brown, does a really nice job in this circuit, 4558 and 4580 also gave me really interesting results.

For the clipping switch, you can use a On/Off/On SPDT switch so you have LED/Lifted/Diodes options.

Note that in the Diode position you will have a significant drop of overall output but a real nice compressed Drive/Stortion sound, i recommend socketing these position so you can experiment.

Enjoy!

So here's my second kit build, a genuine GeekMacDaddy - GeekDriver!  8)

Geek provided me a little homebrew kit of is ColorSound Overdriver, one of the nicest fuzz/drive that i've tried so far..........it's really nasty, love it!

In search of thread title that will gain attention....  ::)

Tweak Tone Delay................again......, but this one, is for sale, i need some money to complete some orders so the GrindStore can open his doors ;)

It got all the same specs than the other i did in the DDD.

Clip i did a while ago....never posted it...

So i'm planning on building a QuadroVibe, but i don't have any LT1054, could i use a Roadrage with 7660SCPA charge pump instead?
#210
Could have put a battery snap!  ;D

Took 2 hours of elbow grease to get that enclosure done.......

Channel A (Red) is CJ's Tweak Tone, with B100k Time pot with 270k and 100k resistor on a switch for stock and expanded repeat time. The long repeat time is really nice, does'nt get to distorted...just right...close to an analog....
Also have a «Dark» switch, stock 10nf cap and 68nf for the Dark side, wich is really cool to me. I did'nt had any 1 turn 10k trimpot so i stuck a 5K...........did'nt even played with it yet and i'm super satisfied by the sound of this delay.....my favorite PT powered so far!

Channel B (Black) is CJ's Neptune, with R17 replaced by a switch that have a 12K and 33K resistor instead of 18k stock. On short mode the repeats are really clean and defined, on Long mode.....well, it gets really nasty super lo-fi....dunno what time is....but it's damn long!

Really happy that i got a hook on one of these boards, a really cool OD, need to spend more time with it but i like what i hear so far. My first JFET overdrive :)

What ya do when you don't have PCB mounted pots........you do some!  :)

Having alot of fun with my new letter punch!  8)

Looks like Fairfield circuitery...but i don't care...

Build Reports / My Weener Enlarger...PIMP'D!!!
September 19, 2012, 11:11:32 PM
MadBean's Weener Wah!  8)

I had a completely other idea when i got this board...but i finally changed my mind to keep it simple...and keeping the other idea for another wah that i'll put together once i find another enclosure for cheap...

I got this enclosure as a complete wah from David, an early 535 Crybaby with TDK inductor, sounded awesome............but the guts where'nt from me......so i had too.....

I omitted the buffer circuit portion from the layout to replace it with a FuzzRot instead, was nice to be able to hook up all the wires of the buffer directly to the PCB.....with some little schematic and DMM fooling..

Whipple inductor, ICAR 100K pot, OC140 in Q1 and plenty of Mojosomeness.............also features a super orgy porno trimpot party for total control.....

Used a pair of RGB LED to be sure that i had a bit of wiring mess going on....

Thanks to Timbo and other Madbean forum member for hints and mods for this one!  ;)

Red LED when on Standby

Green LED when ON

Green LED when ON and Blue LED when Buffer is IN

It does'nt shows that much....but both colors are on at the same time

CJ's Plus Dist housed in a vintage MXR distortion + enclosure   :D

Built to spec, but with LM741CH IC and Schottky/LED clipping combo.

Those who wonder why i have metal can IC and not you......, it's one i ordered before the groupbuy....

And i decided to not relic the knobs.........., they'll get old by themself...

New Pedal Day!

So here's a Maestro Phaser that I bought from Brian and the Maxon CS-550 that i got in a trade with candletears7!

Just gave them a fast go, WOW! the phaser is the coolest i've ever tried to date, your kind of limited in the speed range, can't get that «extreme wobble» sound, but everything else, is hands down the best sounding phaser i've owned (this is my 7th or 8th one....)

Onto the Maxon, more than satisfy with this pedal aswell, the delay time is a really nice feature, the trimmer for the modulation level is also really apreciated.

Reminds me alot the orignal CE-1, similar design at a certain point, but this one have more options to fine tune it, wich makes it better imo.

Brian, i saw another Maestro for sale on TGP with pretty much the same use than this one........, compared to what the other guy is selling it, it's like you gave it to me! Thanks alot! ;)

Yo, i've got couple questions regarding my Weener :o

First, i'm completely bypassing the switchable buffer and will built a Fuzzrot instead that i will piggyback to it.

I would like to know if my thinking is right accordingly to the schem.
If i want to use the onboard switch holes, the output of the circuit should be the first pad of C7 that i would run a wire to the input of the fuzzrot and then run the fuzzrot output to R15 output?

Other question is, i don't have any BC549C, but i have BC550, MPSA18, MPSA13 and MPS6521, wich would be the best to use? or any other recommendation, i have pretty much everything in the 2N series.

Next one, C2, if you refer to VOX V846 schematic, this is a NP 4uf capacitor, i do have some 4uf axial NP caps, am i good to go?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to make it perfect on first shot.....i hate to re-work circuits...and don't want to have a bunch of sockets.

Cheers

Build Reports / King of GOaT! For Sale!

CJ's Game of Tones, à la deux!

So it's the high gain going through the low gain OD configuration.
The low gain does'nt have the 1N914 diodes and no switch, just a jumper and is built all stock.
High gain have a 250K gain pot and trimpot to adjust the gain aswell on board, it's currently set at 17k.
1N914 are installed, even if lower volume is achieve with this setting, when running through the low gain od...., it's just MONSTROUS!

This is seriously the best sounding OD that i've built to date, finally an OD that i will use as an overdrive! lol

Hi everyone, i'm pretty much new here, but it appears obvious to many of you that i build pedal in a commercial way. Can't deny that is the truth, in fact pedal building/DIY supply, his my only income at the moment.

I received a pm from Jkokura(Jacob/JMK) concerning my intentions toward buying is pcb's, i'm really glad that he contacted me about that, because it gave me the opportunity to discuss with a great person and point out some aspect of my buisness and make them clear.

If i'm posting this, it's because i tought maybe Brian and Josh would also like to be aware of my activities.

For me the most important points are being honest and legit.

The pedals that i sell commercially are the Chimaera and Clean Boost, i have other design on their way, OD, Fuzz and various audio solutions.....these are my layouts, that i have in some case bought the intellectual properties from their original owners or come up with my version of the circuits. These are what i sell commercially.

I do custom builts for close friends, against a bit of money that covers the parts and a bit of labor...but i mostly get paid with BBQ and beer (way better than paypal!haha).

When i do full custom buits for people i don't really know, i will use vero/perf layouts or pcb from people who gave their approbation for that said use of their work (CJ for exemple).

So all in all...i don't know if this makes much sense, but i just want you guys (pcb manufacturer) to be confident that when i buy you pcb, it's for my private use or for close friends, like alot of other guys.

If i ever want to do a small run of a circuit that his not my property or that is said to not be used in a commercial way, be sure that i will contact you prior to do anything.

Thanks
