Yaaaooowww!

Currently looking at getting myself a bedroom rocker setup to test out pedals... the goal and idea being, if with a hobbyist/budget oriented rig i can make my stuff sound bonkers, it should sound or have the ability to sound nice in most setup.

So i need a good budget guitar, single coils favored for this use so i can clearly hear the floor noise level of things... like with Compressors, etc.. pretty much made my choice on that, trading my Marshall 412 cab for a Squier CV Jaguar that i'm going to pick up this afternoon.

Where i need a bit of help is for the amp, i was thinking of small wattage Fender, Orange or Vox combos.

Definitly want something that have a good clean and that will take dirt pedals VERY well.

What do you guys have to suggest me?

Thanks

So yesterday i was listening to A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms, the opening track The Hollow uses one in the second riff.. looks like it could be a Moog MF102.... though that is a bit pricey... but much awesomeness.

Was wondering what you guys where using, i have some BitCrushers and other weirdo stuff but no RingMods... any DIY layout out there that i should pay attention too and what are you using?

Thanks

Open Discussion / Wich filter/phaser is that?
January 15, 2015, 04:35:01 PM
While listening to this album... i realised that i could'nt make that sound... i have a huge array of phasers and filters, usually quite good at nailing effects.. but this time, no.

Anyone knows what Mike is using here:

NPD today... some pedals that where bought couple months ago but that where kept in a transition spot in case... there would be more to add... with other random purchases through out that.. funny thing is that all the packages came in today. Still missing one that i have to go grab at the post office a bit later.

So first!

EHX PitchFork that was purchased for me by Cody (selfdestroyer, Thanks Man!) in the goal of having it before it was available in Quebec... LOL, missed my shot on that part....

Thing is pretty fun, been summoning evil forces since i got it... Thou Shall Play in Minor! lml

But i think in some modes it work better with standard tuned guitars, not everything sounds right with my guitars tuned in Drop Bb... very fun little pedal. :)

Mark would have make it neater than that...

Because they do!

Next is two addition to my MIJ Serie9 collection (i can now call it like that, i think)

CS9 and FL9 from the early 80's, CS9 does'nt have it's label on the back but the guts are up to it.

CS9 really makes me think of the CE2 with Depth Mod, tried the CS9, CE2 and modded PorkBarrel side by side and it's pretty much the conclusion i came up with, CS9 have a bit more brilliance to it overall too.

FL9 sounds good too, not too metallic sounding... ...though it wont get as wild as my Ross with th Regen and Depth cranked.

Love them, great pedals, built right.

CS9

FL9

Family shot! :D

Last for now... EHX Mini QTron ... dunno where they saw the mini in that.. thing is huge..lol

Have'nt seen much of those, will have to make some search to know in wich time they where made, though... Scruffie must know! :D

It's what it is, a Qtron with less controls but that don't take to much on the efficiency of the envellope it self.

It have previously been modded to TrueBypass from what i see here.

Once the bassballs is sorted.. this one might end in the SpamFilter devellopement.. instead of the DoctorQ... much more interesting overall.

So i'm off all party and what not for the holydays, could have been nice to have a family reunion but it did'nt turned out that way....

I'll probably get a call from some drunk friend after midnight to go hang with them but in the meanwhile... i'm attacking my DoppleGanger from Alan and Ian groupbuy.

What are you other lonely dude doing?

Build Reports / In Swwwwoooooosssshhhhhh we trust!

Yo! This project started couple months ago, i never knew these existed until i saw Juan and Cleggy pulling some of these out and found them to be amazing and a MUST to build... almost entering them in the Rites of Passage kind of built... for me that is.

So i got a board etched by Haderbasher, then took full of notes after chatting with Juan and refering to all the information on his Stompage... ...then came time about the enclosure, the type of effect this is, with no knobs just switches.... ...i thought that my finishing techniques would'nt be up to the Epicness of this built so i decided to go for the full monty!

I gave white card to John to design me an enclosure with the killer Envirotex technique that Cleggy got, deceived i was not... ...fucking amazed i surely was! ;D

Then time came to populate this board, something i had done for the most part many weeks ago....

Just the traces on this layout are worth the built... ...forgot to take a shot of the actual pcb when i got it.. but here's the transfer, things where so artsy back then...

Ok.... to get this thing to properly works, there's some slight modification to perform on the circuit (value and part change) but you also need a +12V/-12V Bipolar PSU and an input buffer, using a klon buffer.

Matched 6 pack JFET came from Stomptown in a nice little semi-conductor trade we had going, thanks Jon! :)

The enlcosure came all prepp'd, Josh's OptoBypass, jacks and speed switch where all hooked when i got it... when you put your nose in the work of John... you fast realise that craftmanship can be brought at a totally other level.

So i did my best to stuff this box to be up to the game, wich i think i nailed.

It fired up first time, got the Bias, Balance and Feedback setup and sounded GREAT!!! though i have a little issue with my switching, inverted some wires, going to fix that... and then..... post the exterior ;)

DOD 440 Envelope Filter built on Jubal81 layout.

Great sounding filter, i had to play one of those to satisfy my filter whoreness, does sound really good on cleans, very easy to dial in that kwaky funk sound.

It seems to prefer low output pickups tho, i get some sizzling with my hotter guitars, will have to try some stuff to make it work to my taste.

Well, my iPhone decided that he was bored of listening to me... ::)

Spent like an hour yesterday to nail some riffage in my Ditto looper of the TSM680 MKII muff variant for in the end not be able to capture crap-someness of it...

I use a Tascam iM2 condenser mic that attach to it, at first i thought that it was faulty, but even without it does'nt work.

Have this ever happened to anyone, am i just missing something.... it's an iPhone4 that i have.

Open Discussion / Back to stock 808
December 14, 2014, 05:24:20 PM
Couple years ago i modded my Maxon OD808 to TB bypass, i had probably done it wrong because it have always popped loud like hell....

Now i want to bring it back to stock switching, using the SPDT it was using. I've found plenty of schems, TB mods and what not... ...but none of them got the wire number coding or parts numbers that goes along the one i have.

So i was wondering if any of you had one of those Maxon and could tell me where the numbered pads at the bottom of main pcb are going.

The pcb in mine is the PCB-808-0101A

Kinda feeling noob with this one, lol.

Thanks

Open Discussion / Any Lefty like a righty?
December 12, 2014, 11:47:46 PM
This questionning is happening while late chatting with Jubal81....

I'm a born lefty and only thing i do like a right handed person is play guitar or bass simply because when i was 13, the guitar we had at home was a right hand Ibanez acoustic... a friend showed me Black Sabbath's IronMan and from there... it was on.

Though, through the year i've faced many handicaps in my playing, aspect on wich i would struggle physicaly or mentaly in their mechanism of execution, like singing a melody over some riffage, overall lead playing or doing hand tapping the opposite way ( starting by pulling the tapped note instead of doing an hammer-on to it..nyway..) and despite all of my effort doing sweep picking on even 3-4 strings is something i can't do at all.

Anyone else playing mirrored and facing those difficulties?

New Cab Day! :)

MIUK Marshall 1960A Lead 412 from the 90's, the outside is roughed up a bit but that's really not something that concerns me, almost prefer it that way. Strangely the speakers look brand new in there...

Sounds good as it should, for 300$ i could'nt be happier.

Hi Y'all, built this TS for a friend. Needed it to be mounted in it's rack and be able to switch it with is VoodooLab controler.

Used Madbean's GreenBean layout and Josh's Relay switching. Works great! Though it was a lot of off-board wiring.

Thanks for looking!

Yo! I came back from my work trip yesterday, since i had a bit of spare time in the morning before departure, i took a truck and went up the road on top of a hill to snap some pictures of the sunrise at 9:30AM local time, so 10:30AM ET.

So this is what it looks like when you're at 50km from the Arctic circle! ;)

At the far left, that's the mine/mill complex, the big dome is to accumalate mineral concentrate so there's a continuous feed to the mill. The white cover all at the bottom of pic is the water treatement place, where the waste water return from the mill is recycled... i was working at 1km from that cover all in new facilities we had to setup with some huge pump systems.

....and the never ending tundra... ...love that place to be honest there's a death like calm surrounding you, digging that.

Those two last pics where taken in completely opposite direction...  :o

Thought it could interest some of you guys.

New Jeep Day! ;D

Bought this mud bogger today, 1997 TJ 4.0L, was suppose to get it 2 weeks ago but because of some unfortunate events i could'nt clear it.. so i had to wait a bit.

One of the most enjoyable vehicule i've ever bought.... close tie with the MK3 GTI i had when younger... but the purpose is completely different for this one.

I bought it from my buddy who have a silkscreening shop, made me a killer deal to be honest.

Truck came with the hard top, soft top, hard and soft half doors, upper soft doors, 10Kpound winch (not installed yet), the 4 OEM alloy wheels with almost new winter tires.

Will be my daily driver for this winter, but i'll probably get a car in spring.... gas price is quite outrageous in Quebec (probably everywhere in CAN too  :-\ )

After that it will become my offroad duty only vehicules, instead of getting a new ATV to get at my moose hunting camp... it's the same size than a side-by-side after all.

Now i need a GoPro!  ;D

Open Discussion / TS into BMP, anyone else?
October 03, 2014, 01:05:52 AM
Anyone else likes to run a TubeScreamer type OD into Muff?

Since i came back from my trip, i always end up using that combo when i want to add some edge to the sludgy stuff i like to play lately. Tried with various Muff variants and the resuts are always very interesting.

Probably 2 pedals that all DIYers have handy, give it a try if you have'nt yet, those who are using that combo... chime in with what kind of setting or other dirt/boost circuit you use in front of your favored BMP. :)

I feel like a complete noob with the Muff.... seems like everyday i'm finding another way to dial it or make it interact with other pedals... comp before it is also pretty tasty, makes the low end very responsive....digging it.
