Build Reports / Buzzsaw and Slow Loris new builds
August 15, 2012, 06:54:34 AM
G'day Madbeaners, Matt here, a couple of new builds, that i thought i would share.
Nothing too original with the artwork as you can see, but both sound absolutely fantastic.
The buzzsaw gave me some trouble to start with, but it turned out to be bad transistors, and once fixed is an awesome fuzz. The waterslide decal was also a pain this time, a bit crooked :(
The slow loris is also a great pedal, surprised how well it cleans up as well as balls to the wall distortion, i can't remember my original rat cleaning up as well, very versatile with the switching options.
Will probably change the knobs on both pedals, but thought these will do for the moment.
I used a forum members idea of using the standard tayda pots as pcb mounted pots by attaching and soldering wire to the lugs, worked a treat. I couldn't find where i had read it so if you read this, thanks for the tip.
The pink sparkly letters were my little girls idea (honest) ;D

Stay Cool, Matt.

Build Reports / Re: "Rammoth" BMP (non-Bean)

G'day Mate, that looks and sounds great, and your friend is one cool Mofo  :)

Do you put anything over the material to protect it and how do you stick it to the enclosure?

Take it easy, Matt.

G'day mate, looks great. The neatness and professional look of the internals of your pedals is something to strive for, love 'em.
I would be interested in one of those boards if still available,
thanks, Matt.

Build Reports / Re: Rubadub reverb new build

G'day to all, thanks for the kind words, really impressed with the sound of this one, if you haven't built it you should.

I've got to admit, i did have a bit of clean up before the photo heheh, keeping in mind i'm a noob though, and i'm sure in time it won't look like this.

"Solder the pot from the underside" DOH!!! never thought of that, oh well live and learn.

Take it easy, Matt.

Build Reports / Rubadub reverb new build
August 08, 2012, 04:37:17 AM
G'day Madbeaners, Matt here,
Here's build number 4, 3 was a vero Timmy that went straight to the pedal board, sounds great. This is a pretty great reverb also, short brick used, spot on for what i need. One thing i would change if i did it again, would be to leave the resistor that ups the volume as standard in the BOM, because i changed it to 15k, i think and when the effect is turned on there is a big jump in volume, no biggy, volume knob on guitar fixes that.
I learnt a couple of things in this build ie: if using a board mounted pot attach that before the reverb brick, which i did not, hence the wires coming off the board. I also received the reverb module with bent pins, and these do not straighten out without breaking aaarrgghhh F$#K was pretty much how it went LOL, but i managed to reattach thankfully.
First go at waterslide decals, not bad i thought for a first go, did a buzzsaw at the same time, build report to come, not as happy with the way that turned out.
Not related to the build but thought i would include it anyway, a picture of the little workstation i've made, old bit of wood, gooseneck mic stand and second hand dremel vice make things so much easier.

Thanks to Josh for a great sounding pedal and very worthwhile project

Stay Cool, Matt.

G'day, with regards to etching the pcb's, Chromesphere has a great instructional how to video, that even i, as a newcomer to this great new religion lol, could follow and understand. The solution that he recommended and that worked first time easily for me, was ammonium persulphate, takes about 5min's.
Take it easy, Matt. :)

Thank's for the compliments, it's a bit of a steep learning curve, having never done this before. You learn a little something with each build i think, problem solving/ fault finding etc.I can assure you that the wiring in the mudbunny didn't look like that to start with, Josh's 3pdt boards can take the credit for neatness lol. Even finishing the enclosures is an artform, that was the third attempt on the mudbunny.

The wife is sick of hearing about how much i'm loving this heheh. I love every part of the process and am looking forward to having a crack at decals and the such in future.

I've got a rubadub reverb, buzzsaw, and timmy completed that just need boxing, and a few other boards that need to be populated, so you'll definitely be seeing some more soon.

Stay Cool, Matt.

G'day to all first time poster in build reports. I hope the photos are viewable, followed the instructions for imageshack uploads, hope it works.
My first two builds, a mudbunny to rams head specs and a serendipity (oohyeah), loving the serendipity.
Only came across the site last month and am well and truly hooked, thanks madbean and all the others who give their advice so freely.

Etched both boards myself, mudbunny  was the first, works great but pretty ordinary ( note the size of the board) I thought that if i make it bigger it would be easier to work on ( real men don't need instructions) except when building pedals maybe lol.

I didn't get too creative with the finishes, still trying to get my head around inkscape, and i cheated a little bit, the mudbunny was rebuilt after i used Josh's 3pdt board in the Serendipity, everyone should use these, so much neater (thnx Josh). I stripped the enclosure back to refinish and thought that it looked pretty cool distressed, so clear coated it and that'll do.

I've got a few more finished ready to be boxed so i'll get a bit more creative with them maybe.

Anyhow here they are.

Open Discussion / Re: Need help making a decision

Hey mate,
They all look great, but,
Blonde all the way, and leave the options open, head and cab, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12 or 10's if that's what floats your boat.
Take it easy, Matt.

General Questions / Re: INKSCAPE Questions and Help
July 18, 2012, 01:10:43 PM
Gday to all. New to this, loving the pedal building, Inkscape not so much!!! Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction with an inkscape problem. I've tried to research it but no luck. I have created the image and text that i want for a pedal however when i print it out it does not align with the border that i have created. Is there a way to lock them in place. I'm thinking it must be something simple that i'm missing. Thanks in advance, Matt.
