Given that I recently had some trouble with 11mm caps in a 1590B (?!? there were pot covers), I think I'll be getting a bunch of these for the future.

Do you know if there are any 5 or 7mm 220uF's available on mouser? I'm having trouble searching for them and would prefer the smaller ones for the Nautilus I'm building.

Edit: never mind, I found some 9mm that will work fine  ;D

Hells yeah man! I use all DIY pedals except for my Carbon Copy Delay and my Boss Tuner. I would throw the multiplex on instead of the Carbon Copy but it's a little too big. Maybe the aquaboy that I plan on building will replace the CC soon ;D

Build Reports / Re: Star Trek Phaser... *Beejive content*

Very Nice! I was just thinking about star trek after ordering a knob that looks similar to the ST emblem. That phaser would look killer with this knob if it isn't too big (although the white knob does make it pop). Anyway, check it out...

a better pic would probably be a good idea. One thing I noticed is the pins of the potentiometer might be shorting out on the enclosure??? Just a thought. If so, put some tape or something between the pot and the box. Also make sure the pot is not in contact with the bezel...

Yeah, I like to keep the mechanical parts seperate from the circuitry on a PCB. There are some cases where it's ok, but having too many mechanical parts seems a problem. For example, if the switch craps out, you not only have to replace the switch and PCB, but the parts, jacks and whatever else you have on board. If you have just a switch breakout PCB, than it's just the switch and PCB you need to disconnect, and you can easily just unsolder the ribbon of cable and resolder it to the new assembly.

Almost all 3PDT mount boards like this give me the willies.  Having all of that hanging off of the 3PDT switch seems like a recipe for failure.  If you use nuts to lock the 1/4" sockets to the side wall, that might reduce the cantilever force on the switch, but it could also cause binding if any of the parts are moved.  Personally, I think a more reliable approach would be to take the same board, but break out the 3PDT switch and connect to it via a ribbon cable with appropriate headers on the end of it.

Good point guys! It's probably not worth the hassle...

No one is selling these AFAIK.
I am racking my brain and searching high and low on FSB (using Google) and cannot locate the thread or the creator who deserves the credit.  I will continue to look for the source, but in the interest of DIY, I will attach the pnp and hopefully find the thread and provide you a link to the original posts there.

It looks ready for 1590B.  I never use those so I have never etched this one.

thanks man! i will have 2 give this a try soon...

electric storm, I think you are correct.   The attached photo file demonstrates what I believe you are saying.  I use similar stereo jacks and it is a mistake I made several times before I figured it out.  I found this pic on google image, but it took a while at the time.  and the datasheets are not clear on this, at least to us noobs.

And in the second the layout clearly demonstrates which side of the jack connects to the circuit and which side goes nowhere.  This is borrowed from a great jack/switch daughterboard from fsb.

Hope this is reassuring.  Merry Xmas

Cool! I would love to add that daughter board to a project. Is anyone selling these of is there a layout for etching???'

Shit me that is cool! I'd never get I to look like that though, it would be no where near that neat!

G

Yeah it looks pretty difficult! It would also be cool to use tolex instead of fabric (the stuff they apholster amps with)

Yep sure is, sounds great. I gotta try a fabric finish with a hidden led next.

What a great idea! I really need to try the fabric thing myself. Great looking pedal man! I love the classic British design...

Great build! I personally like the Boss style knobs most but the big chrome ones are a close second. I like the creativity with the enclosure and it does look awesome with the white washer on the inside. Congrats and welcome to the forum. Be sure to check out the stuff over at 1776 effects too. There is some great stuff over there that I found via this site...

Looks beautiful. Appreciate the warning on the mammoth enclosures, i have been avoiding chinese enclosures for the reasons you mention. The boutique wahs  i have bought that used chinese enclosures were a liile flakey.

I wondered about those mammoth enclosures! It's probably best to just wait to find a cheap crybaby on craigslist...
