Here we have a Tone Bender Professional MK II on vero based off of fuzz central's Mind Bender schematic.
Only difference is I used PNP Germanium transistors instead of NPN GE's and instead of a 1K2 resistor I used a 1K resistor where in a normal Tone Bender there is a 470R.
I highly recommend if you can making one of these or, modding an existing tone bender clone to mind bender specs  ;D
and now the pedal!

and what lives inside (excuse the wiring, I had yet to learn ninja wiring 101)

(oh forgot to mention, props to IvIark's site for the layout)
Hopefully some clips soon...

Build Reports / Drag'n'fly build
May 13, 2013, 06:57:22 AM

I used a solid layout for this pedal and mojo caps (100n and 4700p tropical fish) bc electro's
a bc337 for Q1 and a  good ol cv7112 for Q2. Pedal is pretty smooth and does some great fuzz. cleans up great too so this one is a keeper for me! ;)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Zero Point SDX help
March 01, 2013, 04:05:18 PM
 Hey all!
Finished this delay up but it is not working properly, volume for the delayed note is very low.
Even with mix dimed, I would say it is about 50% or less compared to the dry note.
R45 was omitted but should that be jumped?
Also I have tried to make a sea urchant, and a DBD on vero and those did not have a loud delay at all if anything... I am wondering if I got burned on my PT2399's
I got them from ebay, I have 10 of them and swapping them around, I get the same results.
Faint delay signal.
For the Zeropoint SDX it does not go into ocillation when feedback is cranked.... just about 4 repeats...

Any help would be great, I don't have voltages tested for ICs but I can provide that info and pics.
(I don't know how to test voltages nor what pins to hookup but learning LOL)   It is on a test rig with the 4 wires going to it.   In, Out, 9v, Ground.  also does slam need to be hooked up for this to work?  And I also noticed Ghost toggle does notthing at all.  Everything else seems to work but as stated before... delay very very low vol.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Weener wah help
February 14, 2013, 07:16:32 AM
Hey all - I am having a hard time with the wiring and does any have a basic diagram handy for wining the weener wah in to an standard  dunlop wah wah shell?
Replacing jacks with switchcraft jacks and I am going to use a 3PDT for true bypass.
I notice on a standard wah you have on the taper pot   Lug 1 has a wire going to 3pDT middle lug and board, and taper pot lug 3 is has a wire going to 3PDT lug 9 and to board.  Do you do the same with the weener?

Mods / Weener Wah questions for MODS
November 09, 2012, 10:03:43 PM
I know I seen stuff about the weener wah but...if anyone can point me in the direction of taking that weener wah into JIMI HENDRIX Still Raining Still Dreaming land...  please ADVISE! what type of mods will be needed for this wah if any? I have the board and am waiting on some caps and resistors still but before I heat of the iron...
What mods or values will take me into JIMI land

Anyone???

Oh and I have a whipple inductor for the wah as noted on the BOM

Do I really need the NKT 275 white dot 's in my mangler?  NO!
How about OC 84s for the tonebender that other certain boutique builders sell for an arm and a leg? NO!
I tried out some MadBean fuzzes I built along side my buddies $$$$$ boutique pedals with a Strat and Les Paul Standard into a Fender Deluxe Reverb and also into a 50 watt Marshall Jubilee and really, blind fold test, you cannot tell them apart at all.  Tonebenders are insane and fuzz face (mangler) is just so musical.
Maybe I got lucky with my sm bear transistors, but all I know is I would not trade my madbean pedals for anything because they are so good!  Oh and the Boneyard on a Fender Deluxe Reverb next to the Jubilee... well lets just say the Fender was hanging with it just fine!  LOL  Want Boneyard 2 now!
So anyone looking to make some fuzz pedals that are new to the DIY, go for some sm bear Ge Transistors and some madbean boards and you won't be disappointed!

So many colors and flavors to be had....

That is all!!!
(sorry no clips because we were to busy rockin!)

Cheers

Build Reports / raulduke's Prince Albert build
October 22, 2012, 12:25:34 PM
Well,
I recieved a 1590b last Saturday and was able finish up the Prince Albert.
Very interesting pedal I must say. Gain is really low and I would assume HiWatt like just as they claim.
Dynamic pedal, cleans up great with the guitar volume knob and I think this pedal would make an awesome overdrive for a good amp to send you into awesome land. clips to come soon!

I just cannot figure out how to get that LED working... Either I blew mine up or it is in backwards so I need to check  ???

Outside -   Had a fun time drilling this out and it is not perfect but, oh well LOL
someday I will get around to learning how to put artwork on pedals  :P

Guts - and thanks to the layout and 3PDT board, wiring was a snap!  very clean
I did not have the correct pcb mounted pots so each pot has a small 1 inch wire going into the PCB so it is still pretty neat inside and you can pull everything out easily without a rats nest following you around.

On a side note... I have a purple plexi that I ran in front of this Prince Albert and I am really temped to get a 1590BB and slap them both inside to get the best of both amp sims in a pedal format  ;)

added a clip on youtube with a madbean mangler

Cheers!  and thanks raulduke!

Build Reports / Hot Chilicon Fuzz (my 1st pedal build!)
October 12, 2012, 12:37:58 PM
 I thought I would share!
This the 1st pedal I ever attempted to build and I really learned how to make solder FLOW after this one.
Unforgiving etched PCB for a noob = solder blobs! I cleaned the board up however and checked the traces with a DIMM and all is well! I have since then bought a better soldering iron with the pencil tip and know how to solder now  ;D
Hot Chilicon Fuzz for those that don't know is just a modded tonebender I think from Aron Nelson or something like that - has a tone knob and fat switch - 4 transistors and this thing sings!
I have a resistor sitting in sockets so I can use a trim pot to further tweak it but it sounds good as is so I never put the bias trimmer in LOL

and the guts

I have not see any decent youtube demos of this one so I made this

I think the next tonebender I am going to make is madbean's pastyface with some russian Ge's
;)

Cheers!

Build Reports / Mudbunny build <Civil War>
October 10, 2012, 10:58:54 AM
Finished this one up last night and tested today with my deluxe reverb RI and it is pretty sweet!
Gobs of distortion out of the beast and I sort of like the tone knob set to about 8oclock-ish to get those mids back in there...

Will send gut shot sometime but here are some clips... excuse the sloppy playing LOL

and with the Kingslayer pushing the front in (MIDS!)

I am still amazed you can cram that mudbunny into a 1590B

Thanks all!

General Questions / Please Help! Daughter Boards
October 04, 2012, 04:40:22 PM
How do you put a daughter board into another circuit?
I want to put a klone buffer or mosfet buffer inside my Boneyard and also make it to where I can switch it off and am really scratching my head about to go about hooking it up.

My thoughts are in to daughter board, out to boneyard IN and ground everything but kind of baffled on the 9v part and getting it on a switch.
     ???
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

THANKS!

General Questions / tropical fish capacitors?
September 30, 2012, 08:57:59 PM
Silly question before I hit up GOOGLE but,
Where do you get these tropical fish capacitors for a wahwah? with Proper values of course  hehee

anyone?

Build Reports / Kingslayer completed!
September 30, 2012, 08:46:34 PM
Hey all, I finished my kingslayer today and many thanks to Haberdasher for the tip on using 2 resistors to get the proper value for R19!  Got it wired up and it worked the first time!  I get the motorboat thing on one of the diodes as indicted in the 09.17 update and will try the R11 mod later if needed. So far I am loving the pedal and will try it later tomorrow with a deluxe reverb and give it a workout! One question I have would be about the D2, D3 and D8, D9 diodes. I am using Bat 46 and red LEDs and am wondering if you have to use all of the diodes? They sound good to me as is....  Pedal is sort of like a hotter version of a bad monkey or something with more dirt!  Clips posting later and thank you Madbean for all the hard work you do!  Here are the guts!  Excuse the rats nest because I am still a noob at wire management LOL
I chose the buffered version and I did not have the resistors for the 3PDT switch and had to pair up to get the proper values there as well...
LOL

 Hey all,

I just got my parts in for the kingslayer and I accidentally ordered for R19 a 392R resistor instead of 392k
I happen to have a 330k laying around and am wondering if that would work or do I need to do another order for that resistor?

thanks!

General Questions / Manger PCB for tonebender 1.5
September 18, 2012, 11:52:03 AM
 Hey all,
I was wondering if it is possible to use the mangler PCB for a tonebender MK 1.5 since after all that is a fuzz face circuit?
Besides the value changes on the caps for C1 - C3 and resistor R2, I was wondering exactly what C4 is doing on the mangler. I can see it is going out of the neg 9v and suspect it will not have any impact on the sound and just helps against an accidental reverse polarity - via that diode?

Everything else seems to be in order though on that board  :)  nice touch having R3 as the bias for Q2

Tech Help - Projects Page / npn Mangler oscillation
July 30, 2012, 08:38:17 AM
I recently made 2 manglers, one is with germanium and that one works fine, and I made another with BC108s, reversed all the polar caps and diode... wired up it up and seems to have a grounding issue. If you turn your guitar volume to 0 you can hear an oscillation going, really hi pitched weeeooooweeeooo type thing, Turn the guitar vol up and it sort of goes away but you can sort of hear it in the back ground.
It is biased at approx 4.5 volts on the sweet spot; I have 2 other sets of BC108s and tried those out but getting the same result. is there a cap value somewhere I can try out or certain other resistor values that would help?   besides that oscillation, I love the effect I am getting but I suspect if I boost the pedal or add it to the chain with other stuff it can get annoying!
sorry this was wordy but any help out there would be great!!!

thanks
